This guy should be getting huge pro offers right now. A 1:44 low with a negative split in a championship race is crazy. I think there's a solid chance he makes the US 800 team.

Now Roisin Willis, Juliette Whittaker, and Will Sumner are all true freshman and also the best collegiates in the country. Weird how the 800 has worked out that way.
21-23 is typically the peak age for 800m runners. these true freshman are advancing at the typical pace that most runners in this discipline. rudisha hit the world record at 21

Sumner ran the flat 400 in 45.7 IN HIGH SCHOOL. That's just 0.2 slower than Rudisha's all-time 400 PR, which he ran when he was 22 years old. And Sumner is significantly smaller and lighter than Rudisha, which may serve him well in the 800.

Amongst 800m runners, Sumner is an exceptional standout in terms of his basic sprint speed (a 21.55 200m, and a 45.7 400m as you said), which when coupled with his clear room for continued physical development, bodes well for his future upside in the event. I wonder if he'll continue to carefully increase his mileage throughout the seasons or if he'll stay with low volume. With years of thorough aerobic development he very well may be the first man under 1:40.

Very impressive 800m! With proper pacing, Sumner can run 1:43. I think he has a future in the 1500 if he ever trained for the distance. You can’t teach 44 second 400m speed and I think the kid can stretch to 1500

@@CrossForum 2022. He's on their roster and posted a few marks from indoors. Never won anything but is on Miss team.
Cade Flatt messed his ankle up pretty bad early in the season and it never quite healed he only went 1:50 because he ran the season injured
