No. It is because of the shifting camera angle. The camera is placed almost on the finish line. Watch again. Use "k" for start/stop and "." to move frame by frame. "," moves 1 frame back.

If he just started before the gun i guess it would have been disqualified anyways and people wouldn't talk about it.
There was actually talk amongst the track community that the 6.45 that Jones threw down was also a false start. Personally, I don’t know what to think of it, but I just felt like that needed to be said.
With all the events he’s doing, I can only wonder if Boling is the best decathlete waiting to happen. Regardless, he’s the definition of a team player!

Since his best time was 6.59 coming into the competition I didn't think he'd even make the final. Winning his heat is just stunning. But since it was basically a three-way tie for first and the guy from the first heat ran a faster time, they're just aren't any favorites to win the race. Normally I'd say I don't expect him to place because this really isn't his race but every break seems to go his way so maybe he'll do it one more time. Pretty cool to PR in the preliminary heat. Just making it to an NCAA final in the 60 is a great accomplishment. Jones is a freshman and I don't feel too bad for him but I'm crushed for Micah because I really thought he would win.
damn, bummed for micah. I raced against him quite a few times in high school. going into my senior year, based on the previous year being the one where all the other top sprinters had graduated which left me being the fastest one in the district, I was supposed to be the one to beat until micah showed up and just demolished everyone without even trying. he was a cool dude, didn't really talk much but its high school track so who cares. I was very very impressed by him and so was everyone else. regardless, i performed my best, made it to state for all my events, was surrounded by tons of awesome team mates and it is cool seeing someone I raced against go so far so fast in his track career. wishing the best for him.
Boling is a power sprinter. His best race is actually the 400. However, he runs a great 200 and he runs a very fast 100. He even looks like a Greek God. LOL
In the first false start, a dumb ass pole vaulter is clapping for himself only about 20m away from the start line. A clap can sound like a gunshot and cause a false start. The NCAA needs to go with an instant replay judge.

The pressure to execute a good 60m when ur in the top 5 in the world is hard to compose yourself I guess when ur as young as these guy's but with age n experience u hold ur composure better. Sad to see such talent be DQ'd in the 1st round. But how sweet to watch the development of Matt Boiling and doing 60m-400m is unbelievable. I remember many many yrs ago reading results in an Athletics magazine (B4 internet) n Carl Lewis was in a very rare 400m race which he done in 47.1sec, now compare that to what matt can do and many many more sprinters in the USA ATM it's looking very good for American sprinting as a whole. Will Jamaica have an upsurge like this very soon along with other brilliant sprinters from around the world, we might see an all 8 sprint race this year where all 8 go under 10sec? Finished 5th in the 60 final with 2 of the fastest runners in the world missing. Williams was a freshman last year,and made the olympic team as a relay alternate. Boling also finished 3rd in the long jump,an event I thought he would win. He has a lot of improving to do,if he is going to be a world class athlete.
But a great start will take some energy away from his top end. That's how it works. But he can still improve his time with a great start just don't expect that same top end with a great start.
