It's amazing to think that the man who had the greatest influence on the formation of Christian theology, planted churches, worked miracles... died abandoned by all but his closest companions, his reputation under attack from other influential leaders, many of his churches (esp Corinth, Ephasus, Galatia and Crete) infiltrated by false teachers. What a humble end. A failure in worldly eyes, but a hero of faith.

Me too. Though, I'm almost certain that I would not have sought it, during Paul's imprisonment. I'd have likely thought Paul, Jesus, and his followers to be, at worst, blasphemous, and at best, misguided. My sin wouldn't believe a homeless, imprisoned babbler whose membership comprised of a handful of people who had received capital punishment.
How wrong I would have been.
We too often forget how easy it is to call ourselves "Christian", in our time. I'd like to think the lesson of Timothy, and in effect Paul's martyrdom, is for us to make our own sacrifices, to act as Jesus taught us, so His Kingdom of All God's people may flourish.

If the books of Corinthians are anything to go by, his sermons were unimpressive. He was a simple man whose letters sounded more authoritative than his speech. Sure! He was a great orator but not a very captivating teacher. Like many who despised him, I may not have loved him then. Sad.

I’m fine with being challenged for the better but the anxiety tied to my belief and doubts lately is not good. When I looked up 2 Timothy, particularly the part about false teachers, what I found online was mostly mudslinging where one group would say “this was a prophesy about the Protestant Reformation” and others would say “this is about false teachers who teach prosperity gospel” and someone else would say “see this is modern Christians bending and accepting homosexuality” (among other things). It was thought provoking to hear what Paul night have meant in the time he actually wrote the letter.

    ISAIAH 55 - 2 TIMOTHY
“Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6)
    WORDS BY: JESUS
There is a time for training and a time for warfare. With the time you have now you are training for reigning. This is why it is important to seek Me while I may found and while grace is still yet present. Your life is like that of a soldier’s. No soldier when he is in an army has the freedom to choose what training he does or what battlefield he fights in. Is he not subjected to his commander leading him? And if his commander says, “Go” does he not go? And if he says, “Halt,” does he not stop? What choice does he have apart from to obey or get killed? You don’t get to choose what instructions you follow or what trials you face in life. You are required to listen and obey what I command you. This is the only way you will overcome in any battlefield you find yourself in. My laws are given on the same level for everyone. They are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness. You have the choice whether or not you will follow them. To deny them is death, but to listen is life and peace.
I am your Commander and I am training you up to walk in all wisdom, discernment, knowledge, power and humility. Trust is your first step. Trust Me in the paths I lead you. Are not My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts? Therefore, listen to your Commander even as Timothy listened to Paul, his own instructor. Mercy is time. Use it while it is found that you may be prepared in battle. Endure the hardship as good soldier, being strong in the grace that is in Me. Fight the good fight, finish your race and keep your faith. Those who endure shall reign with Me for I have laid up for them the crown of righteousness."

This Letter also give us hope.
The Gospel spread didn't ended with Paul's death and imprisonment. He teached Timothy that teached others and then it got to us today.
God is greater than any evil we may face.

Get a revised addition that is easy to read. Then read a chapter a day so you don't get overwhelmed. Took me over a year to read but I understood it more. Then I started all over again.
