I’m in Palm Springs and dealt with extended heat over 115 also. For me, having them in a north facing covered patio with misting fans got them thru! Have mostly Hoyas, Philodendrons, Monsteras and all my rubber trees. Been growing them outside all year long so they might be more acclimated.

Kevin put the trellis in while potting it up. But he does put Cake dowels in the pot if he thinks he’ll need to change the trellis at any time. They are hollow cake dowels and he cuts the cake dowels above the level of the pon. That way they don’t fill with pon when you finish filling the pot. Then you can change the trellis as they grow. He used the self watering pots and he puts the cake dowels into the “legs” where it takes up the water. Hope this helps.

I burned a begonia (because I got some harsh direct sun) but after pruning it, it’s been doing much better. I live in Los Angeles and I am so blessed to live in a place where I can keep the majority of my plants outdoors year round. We have been hitting high 90s degrees Fahrenheit everyday and my plants are doing well. I tried to place them in place where they receive morning sunlight. By 12 PM, they are all in shade. Plus I have a massive MONSTER Monstera that provides additional shade to the plants underneath. It is all about knowing what time the sun hits where. Hopefully all your outdoor plants recover!!!! ❤

The ficus Audrey, i would really stake up for a little while to get them to grow straight up, in the long run its easier for you to have a tree pointing straight up, than to both sides. And, remove the two bottom leaves, they are saying goodbye and it helps it produse more on the top. They actually like to be a bit more moist in the soil than you would expect, mine never dry out completely, and it has been growing so so much :) and they handle direct sun really well, so your really lucky to have the opportunity to make it thrive, and maybe one day be a really large tree 😍

hi!! i just found your channel yesterday and youve really helped on giving me info on how to revive my sickly plants! a really amazing tool for plant propagation is a fishtank!! i swear my life on this. ive had a tank with no fish just some snails and aquatic plant’s running on a filter and heater and basic tank medicine for maybe 1 month and i put multiple cuttings (pothos monsteras 2 more varieties i dont know the name of) in the water and the roots grow 8 cm in literally 2 weeks! i tried propagating them in jars since january and they kept dropping leaves and i was left with just plain stems and nodes. the fishtank brought them back to life in days with new roots and leaves!! you can buy suction cup propagation stuff to help sit nicely, and they looks super cute growing in the water. please look into it aquascaping is extremely rewarding too! ❤

I am fortunate to have a deck where I can place plants that never gets direct sunlight, however it does not take long for them to dry out on blistering days here in Georgia. Other con is having to treat each one before bringing them in, as last year I had a thrip out break in my grown tent (not fun at all). Also bugs love ficus umbellata leaves. LOL

Hi Fern. Glad to see you are experimenting placing indoor plants outside during summer. This is only the first year in your new house. What position is your balcony. Mine is facing North-East (South-East in northern hemisphere). This is the perfect position as the plants only receive morning light and are protected from harsh afternoon sun. I have to water them every day as hot temperatures and winds dry out pots very quickly. Begonias are tricky. They love a very shady spot. Maybe, placing them where the maranta is, could be a better position. Also, I love your lavender top. 💜🪴💜

Can you please talk about your herb garden? I wanna start one but I feel that the care isn't so clear in regard to, well, care. Mostly light requirements but also watering ext.

Love how you rehabed the sun damaged plants. They look amazingly good. I am anxious to see how they do. I think you had to just cut them and redo them so they wouldn't just rot away from the sun damage. The first plant you did that you took cuttings from--kind of poka-dot one. Could you have saved a bottom on it too? It may come back. I just went through all my plants and some new ones I have had a couple of weeks and trimmed, or cut anything bad or from transport that did not look good. It all looks so fresh and nice now. I have some cuttings to pot now. A plant Grandma's work is never done. LOL

4:13 could mount a shade there to help with that. Just remember to pull it down when the sun is in that area.
That heat wave did a number to some of mine. I’m near Indianapolis. We didn’t go outside for several days lol

Could you do a video on how you deal with pests? I feel like this year has been relentless with them. The first time in a while that I’ve really had a big problem. Thrips have been bad for everyone in my area too 😭 Literally tossed a dozen the other day because I didn’t feel like fighting them, lol.

I'd love to see a video when you pot up the begonia cuttings! I struggle a little bit with repotting begonia water propagations, the roots are so thin and they tend to rot for me.

Most plants do get burned and unhappy when they're outside in the hottest part of summer which is August. The only ones I can keep all summer outside are elephant ears and plants that are mostly in shady areas. I agree with you about those ficus but I finally got a ficus tineke that is happy in a north facing window

yeah when the sun started to hit them as the days got shorter it did them no favours :(

I edited my comment. I was watching while commenting. My ficus tineke is actually happy in the north facing window. I can't believe it's growing a new leaf.

I no longer put my plants outside in the summer - they grow great but they endure so much damage. I found the bug problem when I bringing them in just isn't worth it.

maybe I'm the only one but the piano music around the 49 minute sounded really sad to me and made me feel a little sad. I know that you would never put on sad music on purpose but music always feels different to different people. Thought I'd just let you know :) Loved the rest of this video!! Your begonias are stunning

When I bring my plants inside I use diatomaceous earth on them and wash the leaves the next day. It works well for me. (You might want to check if it’s vegan first)

    • @GrownOnWater
      @GrownOnWater 9 місяців тому

Google says it’s vegan but it’s also made with seashells and fossils so I don’t believe it.

I live in Norway, and my jade stay in the window all year, and gets direct sunlight from about 1 in the morning (the days the sun is up) to about 8-9 in the evening ☺️.
And mine is a little bit sun stressed, but it took some time. Some months. So let the jade plant stay in a sunny window all year, if i can do it im my climate, so can you ☺️☺️☺️

Have you considered using a larger hardier plant to shade your begonias from the encroaching direct sunlight?
