- We take a look at the battle of the Resurrection Ship from season two of Battlestar Galactica on today's episode of BSG Battle Breakdown.
Patreon: / eckhartsladder
The Cylon Resurrection ship was a critical target for the Colonial Fleet, and was eventually destroyed by a combined effort of the the Battlestar Galactica, the Battlestar Pegasus, the Black Bird stealth fighter and viper squadrons. I'll explain how the Colonial Fleet destroyed the Cylon Resurrection Ship on today's episode of BSG Battle Breakdown.

BSG? This is a welcome surprise. So say we all.
Sultan stargate is better
Stargate's awesome, and I love how self aware it is.
While they're both great in their own ways, you've gotta admit BSG's quite more exciting when it comes to portrayals of space combat, though.
Sultan So say we all.
Sultan so say we all
I love both of them. Stargate does have the superior Lore. But there is something about BSG that I just love. I wish we could get a series about the first War. Something better then Blood and Chrome.
I honestly love these break downs, I always get excited when i see the alert..
Lore Reloaded same, Battle breakdowns are my fav, not to say I doesnt have other amazing content.
Same
Same here
Lore Reloaded infographics and narration over then is a huge treat. Thank you both in restoring my want to do something similar
I had stopped battle Breakdowns for a while but thanks to eckharts, spacedock and templin institute..been inspired to do a whole new series ;)
Well, to answer the question; yes, the Cylons were too aggressive and overconfident. And that is something exploited by the Colonials to the fullest extend.
At the time of the battle, the Colonials had never engaged Cylon forces head-on. Galactica, being the only warship with the Refugee Fleet, was limited in what she could do. Her primary doctrine appears to be defensive, rather than offensive. And until this battle, Galactica had always been on the defensive.
The Tylium Asteroid was a fighter only battle with no heavy ordnance involved and the basestar over Kobol was blown up with a nuclear weapon from the inside. Other than that, Galactica was always throwing up a lot of flak and the vipers were always fighting a delaying action against the Cylon raiders, all to ensure the civilians could jump.
The Cylon fleet was aware of the Pegasus surviving, but they did not consider the possibility of the Pegasus and Galactica having found one another and combining forces to strike at the resurrection task force. This lead to them jumping the gun on Galactica's lure with some civilian ships staying behind. Had they considered that Galactica might conduct an offensive operation, they'd have seen a pretty uncharacteristic thing from Adama; Galactica jumped before all civilians. Normally, Galactica is the last to jump and the only time she didn't, it was human error because they were being pursued for five days straight.
If these civilians did have real FTL problems, Galactica would've most likely held until they could jump. The only way the Cylons could've recovered from the mistake of taking the bait would've been to recall all but one squadron of raiders, which would've been more than sufficient to take care of the unarmed and unarmoured civilian ships, even if they were mining ships.
But they didn't. Instead, they were overconfident that their force was superior to Galactica and she wouldn't be coming back. As a result, they got a Mercury class battlestar and a Jupiter battlestar at point blank range throwing slug after slug into their basestars, while a completely helpless Resurrection Ship is turned to dust by a mass of vipers.
All because they thought they still had the Colonials on the run.
GHawkins I fully expect the 2nd Cylon War would have lasted only as long as it took for the Colonials to find the Cylon Colony and been totally 1 sided if not for the virus.
I allways asks my save why the raiders didn't jump back to theire basestars when the battlestars arrived. We know cylons can do precise jumps.
If Cain and Adama really wanted to ensure that the plan would work, he could have used the drones that we saw later at New Caprica.
They can do precise jumps when they calculated where they need to go. The Colonials take around 30 minutes to plot a single jump. The Cylons can do that faster but I am certain that's not instantaneous. You can therefore assume that once the Galactica and Pegasus arrived and those civilians jumped away, the Cylon raiders did a 180 and started calculating a jump back.
But the ferocity of Galactica's and Pegasus' guns, combined with the overwhelming mass of vipers going after the resurrection ship, most likely resulted in a quick retreat for the Cylons. With their resurrection ship gone, they'd be dead-dead. The raiders most likely just did not have enough time to calculate a jump to make a difference.
They were like children with war machines. No real tactical experience like Adama. Basically show up with big ship. Launch raiders. shoot a lot and see who wins.
The crews of the Galactica and Pegasus hated each other, but they hated the Cylons FAR more. That means the two crews would work almost flawlessly together so long as that resurrection ship was in less pieces then 100,000.
Still though, that was a BRILLIANT plan.
Fabian Kirchgessner The constant infighting between pilots, disagreements between engineers, amount of times Cain went against her word not to interfere with Galactica's operations, and the unsettling stories both XOs shared with each other definitely sounds like happiness.
Fabian Kirchgessner what episode?
They showed Thrawn-like guts there
It was only Cain and Adama who had tension, along with some of their strongest supporters. The crews themselves were more than happy to work together, especially the deck crews who finally saw spare parts and shared skinjob stories. Lee Adama would command the Pegasus later, with no issues.
FWIW Galactica welcomed Pegasus' firepower and facilities to enable them to create more Vipers. Pegasus welcomed Galactica having beer.
Damn, love that Resonance music you put in the intro.
I read this as Roseanne music, as in the music from the hit tv sitcom Roseanne, and was very confused. Thanks tho!
Justin Y. Even here? Really?
All hail Justin Y.
EckhartsLadder this guy is in almost every god damn comment section in almost all videos.
Justin Y. Hello there! We meet again!
Well the Cylons were heavily lacking something they usually always had before, information. They believed that the Galactica and her fleet didn't know about the Resurrection Ship, they thought Galactica would run at first sight of Basestars, and they never knew the Pegasus had survived, much less reunited with the Galactica, and they never knew about the BlackBird spying on them and able to map out critical systems. If they really knew at least one of these things, they wouldn't be as careless as they were before.
More BSG plz next do the Battle of New Caprica
A surprising, but welcome surprise! BSG is a good show and I like that it’s appeared on your channel again! Keep up the Great work, Eck!
Loved this! Really well explained :D
Battle of New Caprica! It has everything a good Hollywood battle does: super strategic plan, a reality that doesn’t exactly match said plan, crazy impractical awesomeness (the Adama maneuver), unexpected twist. It’d be a great video. Spacedock’s version was a little too short and sweet for my liking.
Spacedock's already done that so I doubt Ecks will also do it.
Lee Adama's idiotic use of the Pegasus should have led to him being spaced.
Please talk more about Battlestar Galactica I loved the series and a breakdown on the battles would be fascinating. Then talking about what side should have done to win and what scenarios they shouldn't have they been in.
I'm glad you're branching out with this series. I was starting to get a bit burned out on the star wars battles. I look forward to more of these.
More BSG please
BATTLESTAR!!!!! Awesome video, I like how you mentioned the personal conflict as well as the battle among the stars.
BSG hell yeah! Would love to see some Stargate battle breakdowns especially battle of asuras
YAH, BSG! BSG! BSG! BSG! BSG!
I just rewatch this show for the third time now and I so looooove it!
eckharts i love your battle breakdown its the best breakdown channel keep doing what you do
Yeah, I would have fallen for that too.
I wouldn't have sent all fighters forward, but the garrison force I kept would have only delayed the loss and maybe taken down a little more before the retreat.
The battle of New Caprica was one of my favorite moments in this show.
Loved this vid! glad to see you expanding into more sci fi series, it'll mozt likely help ur channel greatly!
GODDAMN EXCITED YOU FINALLY DID A BSG VIDEO!
I can't help but notice the similarities between the humans on the fleet protected by the Galactica and the Quarian race from Mass Effect. Both were driven off their home planet by the machine race they created and were then flying around, trying to survive.
Well the geth where not actively attacking the quarians. If they had been resentful they could have annihilated the fleet before they could even make an escape
Really love your videos. Keep up the good work.
I just love how the FTL works and how the vipers move in space in BSG. Viper Mk. VII is my favorite sci-fi fighter design ever.
Hello Echarts good work love the Chanel and all its videos
How about the battle of Psi Serpentis also known as "Cole's last stand" from Halo
3:58 Ahh, I recognize BSGO when I see it... Nice touch Eck!
Well, time to go re watch all the battle star episodes, old and new.
I know this would be difficult, but can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the whole Star Wars franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!*
I have made this request: sixteen times.
Battlestar Galactica Battle Breakdown Hell Yeah Eckhart
Cool fact only 4 people died in the battle
Noice
That's incredible.
Of natural causes
Another cool fact, I got aboard before the Resurrection ship was destroyed, stole a few six's for my own "research", jumped back to Galactica and nobody knew.
@@dr.zippymcscoots8725 goodjob lol
The best strategic Victory of the Colonial Fleet. From the show there were no casualties on the Colonials and that was due to the outstanding professionalism of Cmdr William "Husker" Adama, and Adm Helena Cain. Even with the tension between the two, they still pull their shit together and carry on with the mission.
Hey, absolute love this series! My favourite thing to watch at the moment! Would it be possible for you to look at doing the fall of Cadia (Cadia Stands!) battle breakdown! Many thanks! Loving your work!
I never really been a big fan of anime, but I remember the big final battle for earth in the robotech macross saga. Where the SDF 1 and a allied alien fleet fought an armada of over 5 million ships. That would be cool to see broken down. I probably should clarify that there is two versions of this battle. The one from the TV series is what I am referring too.
I wonder why having a full universe of one of the best sci-fi material ever made, we haven't seen anything big from BSG??? I fuckin love it and yet is unappreciated
Love me some BSG. Instant subscribe.
@EckhartsLadder This was a good episode. It may have been slightly more interesting for me had broken down the tactics. Especially the fact that even though Cylons have humanlike, I can’t remember if they are cyborgs or androids, but from what I remember, Cyborg seems more consistent. These humanoid Cyborgs, more capable of learning than Centurions, are still very predictable and seem to demand perusing the battle as long as they can despite losses or potential losses. The Colonist’s strategy is a pretty ancient, probably all the back to the Persian Sea and Land attack after Thermopylae. The Battle of Salamis, where the combined Greek fleet under the command of the Athenian General Themistocles, who had only a few years prior convinced Athenians to build a fleet of 200 triremes. Even being severely out numbered out numbered in this Second Persian invasion of Greece, the combined city state navy was still heavily out numbered. Xeres, having already been fooled by General Themistocles, he thought he was out smarting him this time by Wendi ding his entire fleet into the straights, so the Greeks could not escape. All based on Xeres’ predictable, over aggressive and over confident nature. When General Themistocles revealed his real trap, the Persian ships were all stuck in the straights and unable to maneuver. The Greeks took great advantage of the trap and their far superior triremes, smashed the entire Persian navy, with very few losses. This critical and devastating naval defeat forced Xerxes to retreat. With no navy, it forced Persia into the finale of the Second Persian Invasion at the Battle of Plataea, where the Persians were finally defeated, never again attempting to go west to conquer. Just 40ish years later, Alexander the Great conquered the remains of the Persian Empire and Hellenized the shit out of Persia.
4:41 Says "May the force be with you" even when it is a Battlestar Galactica video.
Should’ve said so say we all
66th Attempt:
Reapers v. Yuuzhan Vong
You're a beast Eck...you too Daniel
Hasn't that already been done?
+random guy the Reapers have been in a battle before but I don't believe is was against the Yuuzhan Vong, I think it was against the Covenant, maybe they were in others but idk
Hold on... yeah, they fought the Empire and (spoiler)
They got utterly wrecked.
Top 10 Anime Deaths
"Hey, a few civilian ships are in range , how many raiders should we send?"
"F*ck it, ALL OF THEM"
I hate to be picky, but I'd really like to argue that the BSG's first major victory came when the Battlestar took on the Cylon asteroid base in the S1 episode "The Hand of God." Every single episode up to that moment showed the ship and crew of the BSG on the run from the Cylons and clearly fighting a losing battle where anyone could see they were just delaying the inevitable; but that episode stands out as one of my favorites because it was the first time in the series where everyone had been pushed too much and said "No. Here is where we make our stand. We either get those minerals or we die."
-and the tactics they use to destroy that Cylon base was actually awesome. I totally thought that's what you were gonna cover (Adama even has the battle-map in the room!).
love this, please do more bsg
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA?
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
enjoyed the video. pls keep up the good work
Wish you did more of these with BSG.
Could you do a Stargate breakdown next? I absolutely love your videos.
Hey Eckshart.....an interesting cross-universe match-up for you....The X-Wing vs The Hammerhead Fighter from Space Above and Beyond.
Yes finally found it great job
Best Transforming fighter:
VF-11 thunderbolt from Macross plus vs the Union Flag from Gundam 00 vs the Viking from StarCraft vs the Mecha Tengu from Command and Conquer vs the Legioss from Genesis Climber mospeda.
The Cylons really needed to learn the concept of reserves. You keep a portion of your forces back in case of unexpected emergencies.
Yes, please more BSG!
I would say the Battle of the Tylium Asteroid would have been their first major victory, but this one was absolutely overwhelming in the scope of victory in fairness
Love bgs please make more videos covering them!
lets get a couple more of these battlestar videos going. i love the series and i feel it doesnt get enough attention from scifi channels.
These videos are awesome! Keep it up! Also If possible you should do the battle for the ark from Halo 3
A two part piece for the battle of naboo, the ground and the space battles.
Idea: do an episode where you describe your “perfect fleet”, with access to ships from Star Wars, Halo, Mass Effect, and/or other sci-if universes.
(4th try)
That's an awesome idea!
Warden - it would end up being solely made from wh40k, since that lore is based on being overpiwered but maybe making it a more grand strategy with fleet points would work
Begoña Priego that’s why I didn’t suggest WH40K
My perfect fleet would be a group of a hundred Xeelee Nightfighters.
Doomsday from the comics vs the Flood
Suggestion: Eck, do the Derra IV battle.
At that fight the Imperium wiped out a Rebell Transport, i think that Star Fighter fan vid is about that incident.
The fight is mentioned several times in the X-Wing novels, and i would like to see your take on this.
Best battle breakdown by far! Thanks for doing BSG Eck. Everyone should also go check out space docks battle for new caprica breakdown!
How incredible short and powerful was this battle
You could do vs episodes with the command and conquer universe. You could a republic invasion against the Tiberium universe during one of the wars
I like Your videos. Keep up the good work
YO I LOVE THIS EPISODE DO MORE GALACTICA
Pegasus packs some serious _heat_ ! More than Galactica. Without their Raider escort, basestars are even more vulnerable!
This was not the Galactica's "first major victory"
The Galactica was a battle hardened vessel from the first Cylon war having acquired numerous major victories during that campaign, and then achieved quite a few as the only (known) battleship left in the colonial fleet against the entire Cylon fleet during the second war. The Resurrection ship battle was towards the end of the second war.
I think they were referring to the Second Cylon War in the video.
Gotta get some SG-1/SG-A ships VS something soon.
You should definitely cover the final battle in the series
So say we all!
But can you also do breakdown about the New Caprica?
Blackstone fortress vs Deathstar !!!
Could you play out a scenario where the series premiere didn’t have the glitch in their security system? I’d love to see the outcome if the Viper 2.0s were able to fight
Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica.
*IDENTIDY THEFT IS NOT A JOKE JIM*
Cyclons: look a single civilian mining ship lets send all of our raiders to destroy it that’s a good idea
bring back battle breakdowns!
You should do a battle breakdown on the fall of cadia
Cylons’ biggest problem was confining resurrection functions to specialized ships and hubs, instead of making it an integral part of their base ships and colony. Left themselves vulnerable, so a loss like that would be devastating, instead of just inconvenient.
How about something from the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica? The Cylons were much more devious with their tactics. The Colonials were also much more defensive about their fleet.
I don't really care for BSG, I'm here just for the dog in the end :D
My only complaint about his videos are that they are too damn short. Such high quality content with interesting topics. I would rather listen for 30 minutes than 5
It's worth noting that most of the cylon raiders were slaughtered in the previous episode leaving a much smaller raider complement for this battle.
Great battle. What about the battle in the first season for the fuel on the asteroid?
I love your music
What would I do if were a Cylon in this situation?
I dunno. Toast some bread? 's about all I'd be good for.
Could you please do a battle breakdown of the battle for installation-04? Many thanks
Problems here; they’d already done the bait and switch with the attack on tylium asteroid leading away Cylon raiders, it didn’t work there in the same way they did in this battle and the raiders turned around immediately (the tylium mine battle only worked as Starbucks plan relied on the raiders turning around, here, it’s just ignored) The raiders also have FTL, the moment the Cylons were engaged with the battlestars, the raiders would’ve been recalled. We never see the raiders - the battles at least 5, probably 10+ minutes, not realistic that the Cylon raiders would’ve remained out of play the whole battle. Completely ignores combat with FTL involved. They could’ve shown the ressurection ship immediately attacked - if you notice the episode pacing, it’s pretty much at the end of the fighting that happens, which gave time for the Cylon raiders to have responded.
I was wondering it probably could be a good episode but what is your favorite battles and why either is it because it's a massive scale battle or the Strategic portions
It's just a tactical mistake. Why would you launch all fighters just to go after some civilian ships? The Cylons really did lose because of their overconfidence and aggressiveness, played their part in the trap to perfection. This is probably one of the best executed plans seen. Also Cheers Eck for the video, well done keep the content going
How about a break down of the “Yesterday’s Enterprise” final battle or the final battle in the Earth Alliance Civil War from Babylon 5.
Cylon Basestar vs MCRN Donnager
Viper Mark VII vs Tie Interceptor
Attempt 13: 2 Harrower Dreadnaughts vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer
Please do the Battle of Sigma Octanus IV!
Finally
You did battlestar galactica
So Say We All
Do a ship mix up, what ships you would mix and match with what technologies from other verses to create the most efficient, cost effective ship. Keep some things off like the ZPMs(Stargate) power source to keep it a bit... Balanced.
For example, I'd use the Pillar of Autumn (Halo) as a base, that ship was sturdy, capable of having 90% damage and still be operational. Plus it had a system that allowed it to charge 3 MAC shots. Instead of 1.
I'd add a naquadah (Stargate) generator. Asgard(Stargate) shields.
MAC aside, for weaponry I'd keep it modest, the ship isn't that big so something like the guns used Hy the Galactica might be nice.
As for fighter compliment I'd use droid trifighters (with naquadah)
All in all, adding an AI from Halo, even a dumb AI, would work wonders.
It's just me or the Cylon never keep Raiders in reserve? Its all the Raider complement of X Basestar/base doing something or nothing?
It makes sense but I'm curious if its true.
Mein gott that outro x)
Only thing the colons could have done differently would be to fallback as soon as the battle stars jumped in, with resurrection ship or not. Limiting losses would be the only play.
