I make bespoke furniture and over the years I have had a few mitre saws, started with Dewalt, then Makita and moved to the Bosch knuckle saw.
The Dewalt is truly a great work horse and can be set to be accurate, the makita is a very well made saw but sadly my saw cupped on long cuts, the Bosch was awful, it simply wouldnt offer an acceptable cut for fine furniture, this leaves my current saw, the Kapex, The Bad first, even with my festool extractor the dust collection isnt anything to write home about, there is also an uncomfortable amount of plastic parts used within the kapex build and design, and finally the eye watering cost of the saw, as much as two or three times the cost of its competitors!
Now the good, ITS CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT, I have had maybe 25years experience with mitre saws but none, not one comes this close to continual accurate surgical cuts as the Kapex, the adjustments are a joy to use, the design allows for close placement within your shop to an end wall, would I go back to other brands, no thankyou, if you want the Bentley of Mitre saws, grit your teeth and buy the Kapex! Great video mate keep up the great work.

I bought the kapex after having a dewalt flexvolt saw. My honest thoughts on the dewalt great accuracy on mine. Extraction is rubbish like most.
840mm from the dust post to the front was not working in my small shop.
The kapex was spot on out the box giving and very square smooth cut. Extraction needs that 36mm short hose for best results. I love mine and no going back for me.

I’m 100% with you I’m hoping that I never have to buy another mitre saw in my life

@@workshopdojo how are you enjoying the kapex? I’ll tell you it’s the very best saw ever from my end. I still have that smile when using it.

Well done! You know how I became a festool guy, Bosch gave me the reason. I've bought a brandnew GSM12, cut a few pieces and wasn't satisfied with the accuracy. Was so upset that the next day I've orderd a Cappex120. It was the first of many Festool machines.

Funny, I did the exact same thing. The GSM12 is strong but just not accurate, quite a shame really.

I agree about the dust extraction. But I tell everyone use the Kapex without dust extraction just to see how good it is when you have a dust extractor attached. Also I can’t imagine a better cut then with the blade that comes with it but it’s only 60 teeth and I can’t wait to try the 80 tooth one just to see the difference. Nice video as usual. 👍🏻😊

I’m 100% with you I know a lot of people complain that the dust extraction isn’t perfect but in my opinion it’s great

So my take on the Kapex - or any Festool actually - is if you want quality you can either go the expensive route or the unnecessarily expensive route:
Expensive route: just buy festool from the go and use it for the long lifetime of the tool.
Unnecessarily expensive route: waste money on lesser brands first and end up buying festool in any case.
I used a few other brands first: started with Ryobi then DeWalt then Makita and none of them had the accuracy and repeatability of cut that the Festool has - in the end I spent double the price of the Kapex to end up with a Kapex. Moral of the story- don’t waste money and buy Festool from the go - it’s the cheapest option for great tools!
Thanks for the video - couldn’t agree more with your conclusion!

On every video about Festool there’s people who just can’t wrap there head around it’s better than the likes of Makita etc . I was one of them , bought one tool which made my life easier and was hooked . I work with another joiner on kitchens and I look around for my cxs drill and guess we’re it is ? But he’s doesn’t want anything Festool , it’s crap 😆😆😆

Mr. Workshop Dojo, compared to a Bosch GSM-12, a Kapex-120 is as light as a feather, well maybe not, but it is a lot lighter. Especially when used in a UG mobile base.

    • @workshopdojo

I was thinking about getting a UG base, what’s you opinion? Any good?

@@workshopdojo Short answer, yes, longer answer, yes but expensive and should be bought as a set with the extensions. The "Underframe UG UG-KA-KS 120-Set, Item number 497354 is amazing. It is well thought out and turns the Kapex into a fully functioning miter station that folds up into a portable kart that has a footprint just a bit larger than the saw itself. The UG stand is lightweight but sturdy and the extensions are incredibly strong, made of hefty, extruded aluminum. It's 20% cheaper to buy the set than to buy it separately, so take the hit and get the set. I love mine and for anyone that works out of a small space like you or I and can't dedicate an area to a miter station, this is the answer, IMHO.
      All the Best, Chuck
P.S. The extensions aren't as compatible with the MFT as many claim they are.
I can elaborate in detail, but this reply is already too long. 😜

So how's getting used to the handle? That's the one thing that scares me away from taking the plunge. Also, I assume you enjoy cutting your base on the flat? I can't imagine doing that with my DeWalt because of the terrible bevel adjustment.

    • @workshopdojo
      @workshopdojo  2 роки тому

You know it really didn’t bother me, I had a dewalt and that had a flat handle, my focus is really on the other hand and the cut, you really get use to it quickly
