I Missed my Renovation Kitchen - it's good to be home

- Last week I missed my renovation kitchen. After spending time on holiday last week, away from Starre Corner, it's good to be home. Rowan and I have been enjoying spending time together and getting creative in the kitchen. It may be a half-finished renovation kitchen, but it doesn't stop us from having fun!
In this week's vlog, we enjoy our renovation kitchen to make some delightful treats: porridge cake, vanilla extract, vanilla sugar, and macaroons. Join us as we experiment and enjoy our time in the heart of our home.
Now that we are home we will be continuing our DIY renovation journey but the renovation kitchen will remain unchanged - it's all about the ensuite small bathroom.
I also take a trip to afternoon drinks at Spinks Nest, a beautiful little Norfolk holiday cottage, to soak in some inspiration and relaxation.

You make everything look so simple! I want to make homemade vanilla. Do you buy your vanilla pods online? What is the best kind? I definitely want to try your breakfast loaf. Isn't rhubarb bitter tasting? You mentioned poaching.. how do you poach please? Does rhubarb taste like strawberry?
Yes, I bought Grade A vanilla online. Rhubarb is tart but I will add honey to it to make it sweeter.

My sweet peas are a little behind. Hopefully, after this morning's downpour, they'll start flowering.
Hello there ! the cottage is so charming , I could absolutely live there! Your dresses were lovely , I need to get some garden dresses ! I am definitely going to make the breakfast loft, however would leftover oatmeal work ? and would the ground almonds take place of flour? Ohh I just remembered my oven is not working haha. I have tried it with flour and it wasn't great. I am sure oatmeal would work. Just give it a go & see what happens 😊 (when you've got a new oven of course 😊)

Hope you and your family had a great holiday. It seems that you came back to beautiful weather. I hope you are able to post some photos of Rowen’s Macarons. She is such a champ for attempting to make them as far as I’m concerned. They look pretty difficult (but yummy).
Our holiday was wonderful, thank you. Rowan's macarons were devoured but she has promised to make some more, now that she knows what she's doing.
Are ground almonds as expensive there as they are here in Australia? I get why you use them in lieu of flour, but it must cost you heaps.
Yes it is quite expensive but I buy it in bulk from a wholesaler.

Hooray your vlog day! Out of my baking phase atm & am inspired now - especially involving voda! Random comments 🤪- perhaps darker-ish green of bedroom for bathroom ?? During a garden visit I think you both liked a large mound type feature with hollyhock type plants growing from it. I thought of the large pile (+ soil) you have opp herb/vege garden. Pretty feature from the street too. Thanks for reading this far and congrats to Rowan with exams over!
We have finalised our colours now for the bedroom/ensuite 😁 It's getting to the exciting phase now 😁😁😁 Thankfully the mound of soil is going very soon 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

How do you get your hair to curl like that? It’s so pretty!
It is naturally curly so on non hair washing days I just wet it. I always let my hair dry naturally curly.
When I had my Millie's Bed and Breakfast in Hatherleigh, Devon, I had my little shop with local arts and crafts for sale in the dining room, where the guests would sit for their breakfast, so they could browse and buy whilst they were staying with me. I think it was fun for them, and I loved selling local things this way. Love this holiday cottage that you took us too, just my cup of tea. Blessings from Jilly & Madge, from West Devon, England. xxx

The maple and walnut one was a success - Rowan is not keen on my porridge cakes but she loved the maple and walnut breakfast loaf!
