  • Detail shots en masse! Also a good look at the other aircraft at Baginton at the time, 2007. DC-6 engine runs and take off. Love the sound of the Pratts!

Reminds me of my dad, flying on those out of Wright Patterson AFB in the 60's when he worked Civil Service at the base.
Back in those days if you were Civil Service, you could catch a military flight if you were going on TDY.
You were allowed to watch from the flight line back then. I still remember holding moms hand and waving to dad as he taxied away. What an adventure for a 6 year old. Definitely one of the highlights of my kid life. To see those big radials come to life in a huge puff of smoke and clatter was and still is a thing of beauty. That brought a tear to this old mans eyes thinking back on those memories. Thanks for that!

Back in the mid sixties I got my A&P license.I went to work for a company called Hollywood Aviation. They were contracted to turn DC - 6 passenger planes into cargo planes. We had a crew of about 50 mechanics and technicians.
The interior was stripped of all seats, carpeting, decorative panels. All the insulation was discarded Floors were pulled up and replaced by heavy aluminum cargo flooring with tie downs. We installed a ten foot wide by eight foot high cargo door on the starboard side just forward of number 3 engine. It was electrically raised and lowered. Every system was removed, and refurbished and inspected. We installed alum.panels over the existing viewing windows. The four engines and accessories were inspected and renewed as necessary. Heavy duty tires were installed on the main landing gear. This work took about fourteen months. The plane was repainted in white. The Chilean pilots showed up one day and flew it back to Chile where it was used to fly cargo and a few passengers over the Andes mountains.

Really do miss the sound of those 4 big radials for airline service. This one sounds great & looking superb in flight. Thanks so much for NOT adding music & posting this.

I remember the days when I was just a kid and as I was walking out to board the aircraft I could hear other planes taking off. I was a really cool experience.

Wonderful video! Thank you so much for posting this. You did an outstanding job honoring this beautiful aircraft.
The sound of those radial engines is music to the ears. What a joy to see this aircraft in all facets of operation.
Your photography angles are spot on....just perfection, I especially like the way you captured the reflection of the DC-6 in the water, the clarity of your video is amazing! It is just like being on the ramp with you. Thanks again for sharing your photographic talents capturing this rare bird. Just love it!!

Having lived in Whitley, Coventry since birth I remember the DC-6A, DC-3, Twin Pioneer and Electra's flying out of Coventry for years, it's a shame we don;t get to hear these great aircraft anymore.

Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪,,, the quality of sound recording on this is probably the best I've heard in any aircraft video, it's as if you were there among the hangers, the Electra used to fly into Dublin Airport years ago and were a beautiful sight and sound

How a video should be made, no crappy music, excellent sound pick up, unusual to be able to here the second engine starting and running on a video of a multi engine bird starting up. Well done.

The video is fantastic, but I wouldn't fly this plane, mainly because the maintenance is apparently careless, even in the simplest things. For example, from minutes 7:30 to 9, the mechanic pours that liquid (?) without using the appropriate equipment, in addition, next to the nozzle you can see that the paint is coming off in pieces. Old planes can have countless failures on their own and don't need the help of carelessness to crash.
