I bought a 2005 about2 years ago and am starting to lose low pressure after oil heats up. This and your other videos have given me the knowledge and courage to attest try to troubleshoot the common culprits
I've had a 06 model 250 for a couple of years now. Unfortunately, I spend most of my time in company vehicles and the truck set for a while. It had several mods with a scat tuner which I can only assume is what took out the tranny. With all that I'm going through it fixing things and I performed a backflush on the oil cooler because the delta-T was 22-25. That was just normal travel with no load. Backflush made the delta T better and I flushed the system by removing both block plugs and doing this over and over until I was satisfied and what came out was clear. During the backflush using air pressure I turned the psi up and gave it some small bumps and increasing but allowing the water to catch up. Block plugs were reinstalled. I did this maybe 3x putting it back together and driving it then again and again. I used a scale remover or Blue Devil radiator flush drove around about 4hrs and flushed again then used the distilled water for the last flush. I didn't have anything to really test pulling uphill at the time. Normal driving conditions are good. The truck has 190 tstat. Now I had to haul a tractor recently and the EOT spiked forcing me to pull over allowing it to cool off, which it did pretty fast compared to before the flush. I do have a coolant filter installed and think maybe it needs to replaced and I'm gonna flush without using chemical, but if it doesn't work this time, I will be replacing the cooler. Good info and I'm sure I will have some questions and now I know where to ask them.

Oh wow, I did NOT know that the injector wires would unplug like that!!! I've worked on these things (mine and buddies) for 10 years now, just shows you that you can ALWAYS learn something new. Nice tip on the exhaust clamps as well. That up-pipe can be a bitch most of the time!
@@ryleighmarie1 it’s worked amazing! I haven’t seen a 20 degree delta since I installed it and I tow a 12,000 pound trailer in South Florida. Towed it from Fort Myers across alligator alley all the way to Key West and back in 90 degree heat. I don’t use the truck every day, so I haven’t done a oil change yet.
The point to the bypass coolant filters is to not block flow of coolant to the engine... If you filter all your coolant, and say it plugs up, if your not a keen eye you may realize too late when your truck overheats... A pypass filter, even if plugged off, allows coolant to flow! Plus the idea is eventually you'll filter the sand and such in your coolant with just a bypass
My truck has this kit and I didn’t install it. When are you going to upload an oil changing video with this kit? I’ve heard they leak bad if you mess it up so would love to see exactly how it’s done so I don’t go through that. Thanks for all your time and effort on making these.
How’s the ipr’s kit doing? Any leaks or issues. I still need to install mine but I keep reading negatives about it so I’m thinking maybe it’s good I haven’t gotten to it yet
one time after putting my truck back to gether I started it up and it ran for a while then stalled. I saw gallons of oil on the ground. Later I realized I forgot to install the upper turbo oil fitting so the engine starved itself of oil. The good news is that now I know if your drain plug ever comes loose on the highway and all the oil comes out it will not damage your engine, it will just stall it when its low enough to not fire injectors and such. Drove it another couple years now im doing the ipr kit.
I got this kit this week and putting it in now. I'm at the point where I need to know the coolant hose routing. So I have an egr delete kit, can't remember what brand it is. I put it in years ago. You specified a brand when you talked about reversing the routing on the coolant hoses. Aren't they pretty much all the same? Mine just comes out of the bottom of the intake does a 180 degree turn and goes right into that nipple on the oil cooler housing. I did'nt get any instructions with my kit. I'll check online for more specifics. Great job on this video. Very detailed, and I followed along as I was doing mine. I shoulda put this kit in when I did my last oil cooler change 2 years ago. Backflushing the stock cooler only works a few times and then the cooler clogs up progressively worse each time. I didn't put this in the last time because funds were tight at the time, and I needed my truck. Thanks for an excellent video.
I bought a pickup with this kit on it. I need to change the oil but I'm not sure what to do? Do you just disconnect the lines from the top of the oil filter housing? How often should the coolant filter be changed?
My 2004 6.0L Powerstroke diesel has a high desired rpm like 4325rpm on scan tool with red indication on the pids. All other data looks normal and checked throttle plate and accelerator pedal sensor values. All other data looks normal for the truck to start but it does run. Cranks normal and white smokes out of exhaust.

Installed mine and everything went great! However, I’m curious if the oil capacity is higher now? It took almost 20 quarts to fill. It’s worth to note that I overhauled the engine as well.
The problem is not the filter its how it's installed splicing into two pipes while allowing the majority of coolant to continue unfiltered to the oil cooler , is the problem do you think the sand in the coolant will do a 90 and go through the filter or carry on as it did before and go through the rad and onto the oil cooler. I did a mod by mounting the oil cooler by the battery on the passengers side with hoses for oil and coolant, I installed a 2" strainer which strains all the coolant before it passes through the oil cooler. these hoses allow me to back flush the coolant side of the oil filter as required and you would not believe the amount of sand I take out . Its been three year's now with no problems and my delta is 4degrees to begin and I clean when it gets to 12 degrees
Already using ipr coolant filrter.. looking at doing the re.ote oil cooler on our service truck... whats your thoughts on egr delete or ipr gen 3 while in there... wanting to do this one time.. as we didnt do it while rebuilding the wntire motor..
So, the coolant and oil temp sensors aren’t moved onto the new cooler? Doesn’t that screw temps and deltas? On oem oil cooler is are the temps post cooler or pre cooler?

I just finished the long version, nice work on training and funny outakes at the end...I did all possible updates on my 06 but didn't do head gaskets, thankfully it worked out good but everyone says to "just do them" while you are in that deep, you didn't either, just wondering why.
I have a 2007 what direction does the coolant flow in mine so that when I install this product I’m putting it in the right direction? Is there adequate instructions that will guide me in the process? I bought a truck with this system installed. I am wondering if you know of anything that could go wrong with this system that would mimic a head gasket problem. (Excsessiv coolant pressure) ?? I know this might sound dumb but you stated it’s important to not clean out the oil with shop rags because the lint will destroy the screen or the ipr. So what do you recommend cleaning it out with that won’t leave any lint or fibers? Thanks for all the 6.0 info brother
Does the oil filter cap have any additional output ports? I want this but I want to maintain the ability to use my frantz. I can keep using my frantz with BPD's.
Hey man I'm only at the halfway point but I am always curious what youtube powerstroke dudes are standing on to reach and how they don't get annoyed by the hood latch poking... I have a couple great tricks.
CG INDUSTRIAL I stand on an aluminum step I got from Home Depot. And I usually put a pad or a few folded up fender covers over the hood latch. I’ve tried the overhead creeper but could never get comfortable with it.
@@cgindustrial1859 I built me a metal rectangular stool just for working on my 04, I also have winch brush guard on the front with no winch so that makes a nice step. Then if I have to lay in the engine bay, I have a few old pillows that I throw in there.
I have installed a few. I personally have not had one leak. The few that I have seen people had issues with were installer error. Typically not following the instructions while indexing the cap.
This is a great video. I’m about to tackle this same project and your video will be a essential tool during the process. I’ve heard that a coolant flush is necessary before installing a new oil cooler. Did you flush and replace the coolant prior to installing the kit? Or does the in line coolant filter allow one to skip the coolant flush? Thanks again for all the invaluable information!
Always a good idea to flush the coolant before hand. This kit does have a full flow coolant filter so as long as you stay on top of that you will never have issues. If you don’t flush the coolant first expect to have to clean the filter in a very short period of time.

Liquid to oil cooling is far more efficient than air to oil. The air to oil is too dependent on ambient air temp. The 6.0 cooling system is designed to accommodate a liquid oil cooler. Oil temps stay far more consistent this way.
@@InTheShop Sorry not to be confused but I meant why the IPR remote (liquid cooled) was used vs. the BPD remote (liquid cooled not air). I am aware that BPD has a air cooled but that is was not the one I was referencing.
@@a2cho I really like the IPR setup. They were the first to the game with it and have made nice improvements as time had gone on. The newest version uses the 6.7 cooler. I’m not sure what the BPD uses. I think it’s a matter of brand preference and I personally feel IPR is a better product.

The cooler mounts in the same location the sinister stuff does. This is far superior though cause it filters 100% of the coolant that goes through the oil cooler not just a sample like the other brands do.
Wish I found this video earlier. Was asking cause I might need a new oil cooler and like the idea of having it exposed in an easier area to get it serviced.

Nothing with this kit could cause that issue. Excessive cooling pressure can only come from a bad EGR cooler or bad headgaskets.

Did you use any Teflon tape to the fitting for the oil and coolant fittings( the two brass ones) I purchased the dual filter setup. Thanks
I use teflon on any pipe thread fitting.

I usually use a small dixie cup to scoop most of it out then I use lint free shop rags like these amzn.to/3p0mz7B to absorb the rest.

The cap does have a port they could be used for things like a gauge or bypass filter setup.

Great video. But how do you change the oil filter? Do you have to bull the braided lines?
Yes. I’ll eventually be making a video about it but you take both lines off and rest them on a rag on the cowl then spin the whole housing off.

The standpipe that goes through the middle seals on the cap. The oil is pushed through the standpipe
Have you installed many of these I've heard stories about them having problems with leaks
I have installed a few. I personally have not had one leak. The few that I have seen people had issues with were installer error. Typically not following the instructions while indexing the cap.

The hoses do need to be removed to change the oil. I prefer this kit personally.

I dont' understand why you have to losen it 1.5 turns to tighten the bolts then you just turn the whole thing to tighten it again. what am i missing?

Absolutely. They also tear from elevated oil temps making them brittle.

Great video, but I'll stick with my bulletproof diesel oil cooler. It's far more simple and far let parts to fail. These IPR coolers fail.
The only problem with that upgrade, that it's not a upgrade, is a downgrade.
Me watching this while working on a shuttle bus, like wtf he can fit an impact for the v band clamps?? Haha this job sucks
