  • Trying to figure out what is causing vapor build up in the gas tank? Is it a blocked Charcoal Canister, blocked or kinked fuel vapor hose? Maybe it's the Evaporator Purge valve?

    The explosion got me, haha. Im in the middle of trying to figure mine out. Ih8mud said if pressure conditions not gixed it could crack tank.

    Interesting. I have the same issue on my 94. I also noticed when it’s really hot outside (I live in thePNW so it rarely happens) and I stop after driving awhile, there’s a “bumblebee hmmm” sound that comes from the canister. Always a sound when removing the gas cap for fill-up. Toyota service said not to worry about it. Doesn’t seem to effect anything mechanically.

      As far as I know there is nothing wrong mechanically. It just gets worse a lot worse in warmer weather. Technically the system has to be able to release this pressure somehow through the charcoal canister?

    I have the same with 2 different LC. On the first, I had replaced the Toyota canister with a GM part that fit ok. I don’t recall it making a significant difference to anything, other than no hissing sound when unscrewing the gas cap. I left it alone on the current LC. Interested in finding out from others in comments.

    You did not check to purge valve,While the engine is running and the valve is open you should be able to blow with your mouth in the hose without any restriction.

      @@leoszilard3998 come to find out the hose to the purge valve was dislodged. Hence the lack of vacuum. Hose was so hard and brittle it fell off the fitting.

    You blowing it in the wrong port. Blow air into the "tank" port, cover the purge with fingers to clean

    Auto Zone sells a replacement canister. Easy to install. Even I can do it.

    What symptoms sent you down this path? I wonder if the charcoal becomes saturated with various impurities from the atmosphere and fuel vapors that cling to the carbon but don't release? Sort of like a dirty sponge that ya can't rinse. Therefore fresh charcoal could improve efficacy?

      I’ve had a little vapor build up and it’s noticeable as your unscrewing the gas cap. But this past summer with warmer weather and higher elevation’s it’s been pushing some serious vapor pressure out. Is this normal? Obviously the vapor buildup is not being released by the charcoal canister. So I decided to dig a little deeper and check the canister for blockage as well for any blocked hoses. Everything checked out good. Next to check is the Evaporator purge valve. I pressurized the canister and had air flowing freely from all three ports. I’m kind of stumped.

      @@trackcalledquest For what it's worth I have been experiencing similar symptoms on occasion. It was particularly noticeable a few days ago during a long hot climb (500' elevation to 4200' elevation) along I-84 traveling from Plymouth Washington to La- Grande Oregon over Blue Mountains summit. I am running some GM charcoal canister that came with the truck when I bought it. In fact it's one of only a few parts I reused in my build. It's had me puzzled too. I wonder if closing the fuel cap at low altitude, then driving to higher altitude is a contributing factor? Or if as you mentioned, the heat also plays a major role. Maybe I am just overwhelming the capacity of the system? Either way it doesn't seem to impact engine performance. Let us know how your Evaporator purge valve tests out.

      If no one mentioned it on Mud there’s a DIY. Grind the rolled edge of the canister off to remove the lid, fill with charcoal from your local pet store and tack weld the lid back on. Good luck fairly easy job.

    Hi, I have a 2000 LC100 with a 1fz-fe engine and have a problem with the fuel tank having a swoosh and pressure when I open the gas cap. I changed the charcoal canister and replaced it with an OEM. I still have the pressure and swoosh every time I open the fuel tank. It’s eating my head I don’t know what the problem could be. Please help!

      You may need to check the hoses underneath the intake manifold and make sure they are in good condition (no cracks or brittle), those hoses attach to solenoids that open and close and are controlled by your ecm. I found two brittle hoses on my engine which caused a major vacuum leak with the evap system. A cracked hose in the evap system will lack the vacuum to draw gases away from the fuel tank/s. That is where I would start. Are you running dual fuel tanks?

      @Lownslowc 9 місяців тому +2

      @@trackcalledquest thanks for the reply man, I will definitely check those hoses out. Yeah the GCC versions came with dual tanks and came with 1fz-fe engine and the 2UZ.
