Is "Iron Label" in Japanese.
Sounds pretty cool.
So, basically, just "Iron label" in phonetic Japanese...
the thing i like about 7 strings is that you can keep standard tunning while having the low A/B string
madzach666 same with 8 strings
8 string + tiny combo amp = mud city
i know I'm kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to watch new series online ?
@Lyric Ishaan Try Flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
Now own the s 7 thanks to this video :) second time i've bought a guitar after watching Rob and lee review it, and i'd just like to say. they've always been right, brilliant, honest guys.
If ever anyones looking to buy a guitar, here's definatly the place to check them out :)
still ue original strings? have u done any adjusting?
for mine rg1r27e there is a little but fn annoying thing that if there is drop A tuning, open A chord and A chord on 12th thread it doesnt really sound perfectly in tune.
problem is with 2 thickest strings.
+Darel Bah adjust intonation
8:18 wat is happening
martinez jorge Wah pedals don't work on 7 strings or more.
really? XD it works on mine!!
martinez jorge No, I mean they sound terrible.
OH! ya they dont sound all that great on the low strings but they still work fine for the top ones
***** DEAR GOD WHAT AM I LISTENING TO
Got the 6-string, hardtail (RGIR20FE-BK) yesterday. No tuning problems, neck feels like it it is impervious to nuclear blast damage, looks killer, sounds bad-ass. Definitely recommended. As for the active EMG's, just remember to keep a spare 9 volt battery in your gig bag :)
One thing I find dissapointing about stock 7 or 8 strings from any brand is the lack of realistic string guages on the lower strings, but still cool vid, is nice to see you including in depth measurements of each part of the guitar!
just so you know : it's "douzième" not "deuxième". the first means Twelfth and the second means Second. Voilà bisous de France !
Richard Hammond & James May.
epic cut-away on red guitar at 5:30 in background
32 fret RG.
30 fret RG, sorry about that. xD
Search up Frencesco Artusato (All shall perish) and you should find a video.
Hey i thought these guitars are made in Japan, glad you guys liked the Indonesian build. I would love to see your review of Indonesian guitar brands that sold in UK :)
"Iron Label" becomes "鉄のラベル" (Tetsu no raberu/Tetsu no Label) in japanese, and yes, that sounds cool! Not sure if I already commented on this video before but I'll say it again if I've already said it once, really cool video guys. Nice coverage of the entire RG part of the line.
For those of you who don't know yet, the bridges are of Ibanez's own designs: the Gibraltar fixed bridges and the new Edge-Zero II tremolos.
it appears you're right about Iron label sounding cool in Japanese...
鉄のラベル is Hiragana for Tetsu no raberu, meaning Iron Label :3
As Mathijs said it is basically just hitting the trembar. Steve Vai does it in "For the Love of God." Basically just have your trem bar oriented pointing to the right and as your playing, reach back and flick it with the back of your hand.
Ibanez has done it again. They produced another seriously fine range of beautifully awesome, killer sounding and playing guitars. IRON LABEL FTW! I love Ibanez
Thank you for replying. I got so fed up of high E string snapping that I changed the tuning I play in. Its a X Db C Ab Db Gb Bb Cb. X keeps changing. I learned to play in this.
I currently have an on-off-(on) switch in one of my guitars as a kill switch. When it's in the center position the tone isn't killed, when you pull it up the tone is killed and it latches and when you push it down the tone is killed as well, but the lever goes back to the middle once you release it. I really love this setup and it wouldn't be much work to make the same thing for this gutiar
This is the first time I see a 8 strings. Kinda weird but fun. I really like the 6 strings trem model. Keep up the good work guys and thanks for using french words ;) by the way, you can translate "range" with "gamme" in this case.
I already own the 7 string hard tail version of this guitar. Couldn't love it more, this bastard kicks all kinds of ass.
Chappers, so happy to see the transition from 6 to 8 hasn't fazed you. You sir, are truly a legend. If I were in the UK, I'd buy you a pint.
Most of the recordings of bass guitars are made with some distortion. You don't hear it in the final mix simply because the harmonics of the bass notes (= the distortion) occupies the same frequency ranges as the other instruments and thus gets masked by louder sounds. So the bass doesn't sound particularly distorted, simply bigger.
the 8 string comes in longer scale.27'' and i think and is tuned to Eb.If you keep that tuning and put on a seven string pack (7th-52) with a 60,62 or 70 fot the 8th string you'll get the same tension(approximately) like being on a 25,5'' scale tuned to E.
I found it hilarious when Chappers was shooting down Captain when he said it was "all black." Great video too!
Ibanez has now come out with a 9 string guitar, too. Anyone spy the 30 fret guitar in the background...?
30 fret guitar in the background.Yeah that's nice.Hitting them high note solos on that thing.
I just bought this guitar like an hour ago. So beyond excited about it right now.
Holy crap, one thing i see instantly cool: that Ibanez logo! I love that kind of logo, just like in the 90s when all they had was that big ibanez-logo, nothing more. I cant take it when the guitars have something like "ibanez pro-shop-custom-prestige-bettermadethantheothers-BUYTHIS-sponsoredbywalmart"-kind of writings on the headstock. If you ask me, ibanez should get that kind of headstock setup for all their models!
This is normally the case, but this one is tuned a half step down. The heaviest one is an F and the upper e is actually D sharp.
Well i like the low end of F and E tunings...E is already almost too low. But on 27" scales, you need something around 0.75, because its still soft enough to do nice juicy bends and embellishments, but also retains tension so it doesn't flop about when you try to be accurate.
The problem i have with 080 is that it does the same in E as a 075 for F, but when you try to be more controlled with alternative picking, the mass of the string becomes a bit too torquey and hard to catch with the pick
Tony MacAlpine? He's like a legend. He's got really unique phrasing that so many people lack. In the shrapnel days he was top notch and still is to this day and Greg Howe too. His first solo album was awesome. The first few songs lock you in awe
Not quite sure how I missed these. Had a hard tail 6 string delivered from Andertons today and I fuckin love it.
The tone you were using on the 8 was a little fuzzy for an 8 but you still made me want it even more than I did to begin with
Just a thought, I've had latching and non latching kill switches and found the latching ones to be less musical but far more usable. You can use it as a mute switch between songs when you're not playing, where as non latching can not unless you want to hold your finger on the button.
To correct a mistake in the video...the bridges on the hard-tail models are made by Gibraltar. Tis the same bridge that is used on the newer RG321MH model for all intents and purposes. I believe Gibraltar got their start with drum hardware, so that makes me want one each of the hard-tail 7 and 8 string models more than I could aptly describe here. The bridges on those things must weigh close to 3 pounds all by themselves and mass=tone and sustain as far as I'm concerned
I am 100% aware that they don't tune down, and I have seen the rig runthrough, and I was pointing out that for Obzen and the tours for Obzen they have sometimes used bass strings and it has sounded just as awesome.
You make a good point. Drop E on an 8 string is lower enough. Past that you can't make out the notes barely. I see what you mean though.
3:00 the most metal I've ever heard a pentatonic scale. Props!!
Amp is actually quite good. Thing is that the settings aren't really made to accommodate an extended range guitar (normal, considering neither Rob nor Lee use these normally). EMG's, due to the inherent compression, will require a bit extra care setting the thing up for adequate rhythm tones.
Thanks man, I appreciate that you're not trying to tell me I'm a god damn moron for my opinions. I agree with you that the lower register doesn't get shredded, but that's really only 5 notes that you'd be missing out on (in standard). I guess I'm also a fan of the thick low end feel that the 8 string gives, and not in a djent way. I really don't like just crazy timescales.
I'm not going to lie, that 8-string blues from the Captain was pretty cool!
I absolutely love how rob plays 8s! I have never seen anyone play it like that... they are either playing big ass chords or just chugging the f#.... or a combination of both.....i would love to see dorje write a song with them:)
Congrats on having this be the first video that comes up when one searches "ibanez 7 string"
It's a genre of experimental metal with added chug - the "djent" sound is supposed be the sound of a distorted power chord.
I have that ibanez 8 string and it plays amazing! Super heavy and mean and I definitely recommend it!
There need to be more guitar reviews with this much innuendo. Well done, gents! lol
I have one of these coming as soon as they're in stock.
Should be awesome!
I... I have been waiting for this. I kept seeing them on the wall behind you in previous demos now it's finally here. FUCK YERRR!
Every time I watch your video, I learn something new. Great review!
i just ordered one can't wait to get it and rock out
Yeah. People tend to think that because you have lower notes, you must need more bass in your EQ, but it's quite the opposite, unless you want it to have no definition and sound terrible.
Ibanez has been my choice for a while now, but seeing them swim into the emg, floyd, 24 fret range is intresting. Now they can keep up with the other "active" companies like esp
Actually, Fredrik's new guitars have a 27'' scale while Mårten still uses the older 29.4'' scale. Fredrik said he likes the touch and feel of the 27'' scale more.
8:23 not enjoyable
Oh my... I'm currently thinking about buying new guitar. That 7-string beauty just destroyed my mind :D
It is. It is the only one they have where they don't mention their own service. Good advertising.
If you set up the "Floyd" correctly you can get the fine tuner to travel to drop tuning and back without having to unlock the nut :p
Recently i had enough of D'addario and switched to a Peavey 0.75 bass string with fabric winding at the ends which works fantastic for killing nut buzz and it has great tone. I also switched to Ernie Ball beefy slinkies (they yellow pack) for the rest of the strings. I had that on for 3 months now, they feel just like new even with 2-4h of daily use.
I forgot what i put on the Iron8 but it has an 80 for the low E. It has good inherit tension, but its very hard to control when palm muting.
Here's an idea: Combine the 8 string with the 30 fret guitar! A 30 fret 8 string? With a Flod Rose? Getouttahere! Now we're talkin' options! I would hate to be the one to intonate it though!
Yeah, the amp choice was the only issue with this review when it came to the 8 and 7 string.
If you check out Keith Merrow or Ola Englund they do a better demo of the rhythm playing of an 8 and 7.
I'm Indonesian. And thanks for giving good comments about my country, man.
That 8 string sounds unbelievable!!!!
It really depends on how you use it. Bands like beyond creation and Ascaraisis are pretty metal in my opinion.
.9-.46 ,then a .62 and a .74 for 8string . I do actually like the Ernie Ball set for 8Strings , but i tune Down one or two Semitones mostly . If you want to have a real easy Bendability just take .8s and put a low .52 and a .68 on . Those are my Recomendations , just try out what feels best for you . BTW , try out different Brands aswell , they all feel Different . That's why I Use Ernie Ball .10-.52 :)
I wish ibanez could make a range of bass guitars with EMG's and not very difficult colors, can only get a metallic black or a lot of natural or stained finishes
I caught that Spinal Tap reference, Lee. Much kudos!
Well Periphery has JI(which uses an 8 string), and Misha co-wrote the first AAL record. Plus Ragnarok goes to a low F#. They tend to use 8 strings as much as Tosin or Fredrik but they just don't use them on the records as much.
Hey, I'd say the Iron Label guitars stand somewhere between average and premium. Compared to average 7421 (S,RG or RGD) it has better stock pickups, body and neck bindings and the new neck construction looks interesting! I have a RGD7421 with dimarzio pickups myself.
Genre: category of artistic works: one of the categories, based on form, style, or subject matter, into which artistic works of all kinds can be divided.
Djent is a genre.
it standard practise makes the low strings more defined most 7/8 string bands do that e.g. meshuggah, whitechapel etc if you dont you end up sounding muddy
Yes ! Waited for this Video for Weeks !
how are you a blues guy?! the way you rock that 8 string guitar, you sound like an awesome metal guitar player!
Everyone has their preferences. I like basswood as it's good for a relative noob like me to learn how to make sound from the guitar and effects. Until my ears get a lot better, hearing those subtle differences isn't a big deal. I did change alot of my pickups because of my ears getting better and hearing more sounds than before though. I do understand what you mean though. The VERY limited handmade JCRG12 is AMAZING though.
Cap'n, that's the DIRTIEST blues playing ever ! Good job on the 8-string for you and Chappers!
>plays an 8
>only plays shreddy lead
Welp, it's Chappers alright. That much we can be sure of. ;)
Luckily a few years back, I grabbed a prestige RG 2620 with a mahogany body. I believe the later models of that are basswood as well. I'm just not fond of it as a tone wood personally (it doesn't really have much), I also think it's a bit too light and porous for mounting floating trems in, being best suited as a carving wood for exactly that reason. Still that's purely personal taste, I realise it's pretty popular and features in some very high end guitars.
Just a matter of preference i guess. but if you want more range you go for the 8 string or 7 string.
Well those RG's all look great. Sadly I'm allergic to basswood guitars, and would throw up all the food in my stomach if I ever had to play one. The only mahogany model in that line up is the S, which I'm personally less keen on, but still would've quite liked to hear.
look up "Circle K Strings". trust me, i used a 75 bass string for a while , it did not sound great at all, now i use a 82 GUITAR string from circle k and even though its bigger its still brighter and more clear than the bass string.
levi hammett wrote: "I bought a Ibanez with the Floyd Rose then discover metal and my fix for that was to put shove a comb under the Floyd rose and called it good enough. So I jam out with a purple comb under my Ibanez."
Wouldn't it be better to just buy a fixed bridge and replace the Floyd?
You cant just replace a floyd with a stop tail... It takes some heavy modding (if at all possible... If you do find a way, i imagine your guitar is going to look like trash afterwards (there is a fair sized chunk of wood missing out of the bridge area). I would either mod the floyd rose itself (again, if possible) or... just buy a new ax... I imagine the hole would provide complications (because the bridge has to go right where the floyd used to be)... Not sure if this makes sense... who knows, maybe I am wrong????
you guys are so lucky to test out all these guitars, what are your favourite guitars?
I've watched this before but seem to have totally missed the part where they say it's also available in S-type. Never been a huge fan of the RG shape, but an S-type Iron Label is awesome.
God, I love Laney amps. Makes already great guitars sound even more great. Gotta have one someday. Nice job Chappers and Captain!
I bought the 7 string about 3 months ago. I like it and it's great but I really don't like EMG707 pickups. Actually I'm more of a passive pu user. Active pickups won't forgive you as much as passive pu's. Don't get me wrong. The sound of those picups are great. Neck is great and you can play really fast with it. I have recommended this guitar (RGIR27E) to everyone who are considering buying a 7 string guitar.
Sl1mf1t hardtail bridge or Floyd rose?
I played an Iron Label through an Engl Powerball.
Seriously heavy metal tone!
8 strings sounds surprisingly good to me. Have to try one out.
I bought an Ibanez RG2228 because I was curious. I have had a few different 7-strings, and switching to the RG2228 was effortless even though I have small hands. It's fun to play an 8-string and reactions from players that aren't familiar with 8-strings are simply priceless :)
I always thought it would be nice for a change if you could just buy them without any pickups, and use the money you would save from that to buy whatever the heck you wanted.
He said "don't" asking a question.
And yes, they do. The Dimarzio Loaded S Series wasn't reviewed in this video.
All right I must ask, what are and how the heck did he make those nasty noises starting at around 9:17? Extremely cool.
Hit the low notes, then pull the whammy bar down to to relax the strings and let it go. If you have the right string tension on the back it will vibrate and that gives you that dirty sound.
Robert Btw, he pulls them back, same thing but different sound.
its called fluttering... pull the bridge back or forth and release it, it goes 'poing' like a spring!
***** Thanks! I've never played a guitar with a tremolo before so these things are kinda mysterious to me.
its just the tremolo vibrating. he pushes the tremolo bar down and releases suddenly so it returns to its original position, crosses its slightly due to inertia and starts bouncing back and forth rapidly until it dies down and becomes stationary again. some call it the butterfly effect. like ripples
@12:55 absolutely stunning trem work
That 8-string is a fucking beautiful guitar
you can thank the emg 808s for that. I have a pair of dimarzio ionizers in mine and it doesn't sound even a little muddle.
Well the LTD has basically the same pickups, and I'd imagine the Dean either has EMGs or the Seymour Duncan equivelants, and I know for a fact that the Iron Label is cheaper than the LTD, and Ibanez's usually have faster necks, so I'd imagine the Ibanez would be best
When Chappers is playing the 8 string, it sounds like he's playing a downtuned version of Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy
That little Tony Iommi amp sounds amazing!
The Iron Label series reminds me of old John Petrucci model with big Ibanez logo and clean fretboards (although John's guitar inlay is offset, its looks kinda clean from dot inlays)
Cleanest I've ever heard Chappers shred scale
Personally I think I'd like the bass strings on a guitar, mostly because I play bass anyway and can hardly get used to the weedy strings on regular 6-strings.
Oh yeah I looked both up and it seems that I meant what you called the locking nuts. Thanks!
Labella HRS 90 got a .74 and a .90 in the set (9 string guitar set .009 - .090) They got a solid warm bass sound to them. Although my tuning from high to low is DAGDADGD.. I play alot more jazz than metal, so that might explain you why my tuning is all wierd and the gauge thickness :) Can find them at rondomusic btw
Thank you! I've been waiting for this lol
Schecter and agile make great 8 string guitars too. But if i were to get a ibanez 8 string, it would be the Rg 2228A or the tosin signature. I have a Schecter hellraiser C8 fr, and this thing is a true beast indeed.
