Eight years after its release and I finally got a hold of a Chapman ML2 Goldtop Classic. All I can say is this is the most amazing single cut guitar I've ever played next to my 1957 Gibson LP Custom Reissue. Words can't describe how good this neck feels in my hands and how resonant and toneful it is when I bend a note. I've read complaints on forums about the weight of the guitar but they're just haters who can't handle a real single cut guitar. I'd buy another one without blinking an eye if mine were stolen. I also don't usually like extra jumbo frets but they work real well on this model. Great work, Captain Lee and Chappers!
It's hard to put your finger on it, but my 3rd time through this video, just to watch Cap play, I've noticed a definite style. He has a signature that's so strong. I'd love an entire video of him playing. His style is so deliberate. Every note, feeling like it was really meant to be. Awesome player.
Such a perfect jam for these guitars. They pair together so well and not to mention the playing is stellar too!! Thank you guys for being awesome and bringing back a classic jam for such wicked awesome guitars!!
I am now a proud owner of an ML2 Flame maple top. Beautiful guitar and excellent playing and sounding guitar. Only problem was the pots..dirty and scratchy after about a week, had to be changed out for better. Take notice QC..Alpha pots are not a good choice for this guitar. Everything else is amazing. The necks are fantastic! For the money, there aren't any comparable brands in my opinion.
You guys are the perfect kind of people to demo and review things. You're not partial to any particular anything. If its bad, its bad. If its good, its good. You give honest reviews. no matter the item, brand, country of origin(Some people just think its bad because its american, or japanese, or etc.) and so on. Please never stop doing this!
That ML-2 looks totally stunning. I really think you should do a "Black Beauty" style ML-2 , as it will really work with the whole vintage vibe you guys are aiming with these new run of guitars. The thing I love the most is how your friendship how developed to you both running the company together and is great to see real loyalty towards Chappers and Andertons Music Co. I hope things keep going from strength to strength for years to come! Oh I can't wait for a Chapman flying V to go with my Gibson V :)
I'm baby sitting the baby G today (all dads will know what I'm going through!) so can't read all your comments. However, keep em coming & I'll catch up soon!! Cheers
Lee, would you consider making more of the Hotrod but without the limited edition JB and just adding it to the normal range because it looks and sounds totally badass.
Capt, I'm in love with the ml2 classic, so I think I'm buying one, the only think I don't know is if you guys ship to Chile. Because I just can't resist that golden piece of heaven. And If you do ship to the far southamerica I promise a spanish review of the ml2.
I'm not sure what we can ship to South America - taxes & import duties always seem to be a problem. Please email Will in our sales dept & he will help you.
I just wanted to tell you guys that I LOVE what you are doing all around so to say and CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on one of those ML-2 Classics! I highly recommend looking at the Raleigh, NC, USA area for distribution as there is a superb scene here! Thanks again and keep up the great work! Cheers!
Not to be an arse, but intonation isn't the best word to use. The tuning stability is good. Intonation in the context of the guitar usually refers to how in tune the fretted notes are compared to an open note.
Just bought the hot rod ML1. I've been debating buying a Chapman guitar for a couple years, but this one made it final. I honestly think in 20 years these guitars are going to go for ridiculous amounts of money.
Rob asked for suggestions for limited run versions - here is one: Take an ML-1 Hot Rod, add a bridge humbucker, use all black (no zebra) for both humbuckers, gold hardware, keep the natural blond finish but quilt top, natural finish for the headstock too. - done. Keep everything else the same. Notice this is very much like the one Bea plays in another video. I'd buy this.
i just love thay way he is presinting is product not touching it lightly so it hopefully stays in tune, no he just welly's it around to proof it. thats awesome Rob keep on doin whar ur doin and dont ever get like that.
A 10 year old video so no one will probably read my comment. I have the ml2 classic gold top, it's awesome. I attend a blues class each week, my guitar gets lots of attention from 30+ people in the room. The teacher even asked to play it this week and he thought it was great. I'm really lucky to own one of these.
Oh my god, I want that ML1 Hot-Rod so badly. I have the ML-2 standard, and its an awesome guitar, thanx guys for making these wonderfull instruments, at an affordable price :)
I'm so in love with the Hotrod ML-1........ Now just need to work on getting the ok from the Minister of War & Finance. I been eyeing the JB 35th pickups for a little while & may get a set for my Charvel. Great work Chappers & Captain - nailed it!!
I own a Fender Tele HH with a flame maple top, and its bridge humbucker is a Pearly Gates that's *not* F-spaced. The strings are slightly off the poles, but it sounds incredible, especially when coil-splitting it!
I've probably watched most of the "chapman guitar" vids now and I can't bloody figure out which one I want. I see a new vid and think hmm that's for me lol
***** thats what i want, but in america, one of them costs about $850, im so sad now, all i own is an epiphone sg special, its in my lap now, im shielding its eyes so it doesnt see that im typing this about it
Paul Stewart I know the feeling man. On one hand it would be cool to play heavy as hell riffs on a tele looking guitar with a floating bridge (ML-3) but I can't get over how beautiful the ML-1 trans black version is either.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the original idea of "F-spaced" came from the string spacing differences between Gibson and Fender guitars...Fenders had bridges with a slightly wider string spacing.
Best jam session I've heard you 2 put out. I usually skip passed them, no offense, lol. I come for the info more so than to hear you play. Happy surprise!
I had an old Charvel with a single pickup that I regret selling almost every day. The hot rod would more than make up for that. I'm really hoping you guys get a US dealer or two after NAMM.
Is it just me, or is the ML1 Hotrod absolutely PERFECT for anything Van Halen?! Coil taps for "Hot for Teacher", Floyd Rose, the single bridge pickup, volume control. Only thing missing is maple neck....
:-) Well done. Again, I am happy that you did take the approach of more limited runs of guitars. Hopefully new retailers will jump on board with the concept of being able to get a short run of exclusive designs. Either way, congrats :-)
Oh wow, shipping cost for ML-1 from Andertons to Finland (to my front door) only £5. If i were to ship a guitar within Finland, it would cost like +30€ :D
As always, a great video guys. I really love your videos - their informative and entertaining. I'm also very envious that you have your own guitar company. Keep up the good work!
what i love about the cap is when demoing something in clean most people would strum or pick some basic chords, then hes just here noodling the loveliest lil blues patterns. why hasnt he recorded an album, or at least an e.p. i would buy that shit, especially a physical copy
You should keep doing this badass guitar!!! And it would also be good if you sell your Chapman guitars in Mexico. Sure you would have more buyers than in Colombia!
i recently modded my les paul to have a push pull for the peter green mod, its quite a lot of fun, got me to put down my jazzmaster for a while and play my les paul which has been neglected and rarely played the last few months.
Best sounding video in ... what seems like a long time. Daaaaang. Also, for a special run... ML2 with Graphtech Resomax wraparound bridge and speed knobs.
I LOVE my MM axis, but i would love to see it in a Strat package. Simply a basswood body, transparent maple top. Flame maple neck, down only floyd etc.. And the assymetrical neck profile is among the most important things!
Why not do a White ML-2 special run? I know it's probably more work with the white finish but I think it would sell well! I would certainly purchase one.
Wrong about P Green's les Paul. He did a pickup repair and they put the magnet back the wrong way. Hence there is no 'wiring' to it. Gary Moore and a friend of his, in the 1980s, examined the pickup and discovered that it the magnet was assembled the wrong way. Keep up the good work, Cheers from Sweden
Hey chappers, I want a hot rod ML1 with a Lace fingerburner pickup for further reduced drag, scalloped fretboard, replace the volume with a kill switch so the pickup goes straight out when active, and sanguine red finish... Now I just gotta save up to make it happen haha!
capt lee and rob chapman are the dopest youtube guitar personalities. guru level.
13:10 Thumbs up for Chapman V!
27:50 I think the ML-7 S Type should keep the black.
Like if you agree with either for Rob to see ^
Black back please
zonavelha The S type looks WAYYY more badass with the black back don't you think? fitting for the 7 string vibe! /,,/
I love the cpts solos!
ML-2 sounds amazing and ML-1's tremolo system is impeccable wow great work chappers

CaptAnderton You fellas should make a play list of each of you playing. Make a Capt. play list and one for Chappers.
Am I the only one that wants a sort of Fender jaguar shape Chapman guitar?
+Patryks2000s you were, then i read your comment
+Patryks2000s I would buy the fuck out of that.
If it were a jagstang shape I would buy ten
If they made a 25.5 inch scale jaguar shape i would shit a brick
jaguar...yuk! Someone had a bad eye for proportions...
I love how excited and proud Rob is when talking about his guitars. He's like a little kid in a candy store
Still here at Jan. 2 2020, I still play my ML-2 Classic almost every day and it just stays in tune. Thanks Guys
Such a perfect jam for these guitars. They pair together so well and not to mention the playing is stellar too!! Thank you guys for being awesome and bringing back a classic jam for such wicked awesome guitars!!

The ML-2 Classic looks and sounds so sick
You guys are the perfect kind of people to demo and review things. You're not partial to any particular anything. If its bad, its bad. If its good, its good. You give honest reviews. no matter the item, brand, country of origin(Some people just think its bad because its american, or japanese, or etc.) and so on. Please never stop doing this!
you're kidding right? one of them works at the retailer selling these things and the other one owns the brand.
That ML-2 looks totally stunning. I really think you should do a "Black Beauty" style ML-2 , as it will really work with the whole vintage vibe you guys are aiming with these new run of guitars.

This ML2 should win a design contest ! looks (and sounds) marvelous !
Yup - that is a possibility! Cheers
CaptAnderton +1! I really want one but I don't have the cash for one right now. A Hot-rod in the normal range would be incredible.
Capt, I'm in love with the ml2 classic, so I think I'm buying one, the only think I don't know is if you guys ship to Chile. Because I just can't resist that golden piece of heaven. And If you do ship to the far southamerica I promise a spanish review of the ml2.

That jam session was so cool, I had to join in. It was amazing!
whoah! The tones on that jam are just AWESOME!
Cheers!
Ordered myself an ML-2 Classic today! So excite!
Wow - that intonation is incredible - no change after so much yanking....
Not to be an arse, but intonation isn't the best word to use. The tuning stability is good.
Intonation in the context of the guitar usually refers to how in tune the fretted notes are compared to an open note.
Great sounding / looking guitars. The jam at the end was awesome - nice work.
Just bought the hot rod ML1. I've been debating buying a Chapman guitar for a couple years, but this one made it final. I honestly think in 20 years these guitars are going to go for ridiculous amounts of money.
Is it me or is the capts playing getting better and better every time I see a jam?
The sustain on that Hot Rod is amazing!!!
Rob asked for suggestions for limited run versions - here is one:

those guitars sound great, i'm really looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with next for chapman guitars.
A 10 year old video so no one will probably read my comment. I have the ml2 classic gold top, it's awesome. I attend a blues class each week, my guitar gets lots of attention from 30+ people in the room. The teacher even asked to play it this week and he thought it was great. That ML-1 is just perfect!
The Captain did a killer job playing in this video!!
Wicked, you guys keep getting better and these new models are really desirable :)
Love the Goldtop Chappers - sweet tones
Funnily enough I actually give my regular ML-1 the same sort of abuse with the trem, and I couldn't get that to go out of tune either. Superb work Rob
Oh my god, I want that ML1 Hot-Rod so badly. I have the ML-2 standard, and its an awesome guitar, thanx guys for making these wonderfull instruments, at an affordable price :)

+XXcrapcakesXX Look at riff city music - the basic models are like $550 - less than the UK if you don't pay sales tax!!!
I will go for an ML1 pro
Those guitars sound amazing.
WOAH... the tones in the final jam on both guitars... I want both!
Love these guitars. Gotta start saving and hope they are still available. Well done lads!
The Seymour Duncans tone in the ML-2 sound delicious!
i love the coil tap humbuckers. the hotrod ML-1 looks and sounds sick, i cant wait to get a hold of one of those
I would do dark and forbidden things for a LP Junior-style ML-2...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the original idea of "F-spaced" came from the string spacing differences between Gibson and Fender guitars...Fenders had bridges with a slightly wider string spacing.
If I were to get a Chapman, I'd probably get a Ghost Fret, just because that thing looks sweet.
CIAgent42 true, or the new v thats coming out
+BlueTreeFriends Yeah, but purple? Really people!
+CIAgent42 I'm getting the natural Ghost Fret.. but I think as a second Chapman if they're still doing the Ml-2 Classic I'm getting it!
+CIAgent42 I feel the same way
I will go for an ML1 pro
Best jam session I've heard you 2 put out. I usually skip passed them, no offense, lol. I come for the info more so than to hear you play. Happy surprise!
That gold top is sick!!
That gold top is freakin gorgeous .Your videos have got me hooked on guitars and their construction ......and I dont even play !
Oh wow! I just watched that part where you mention the seven string guitars will be made!! Nice nice
Whoever's idea it was to make a tele style 7 string...I love you. I just gotta figure out what I need a 7 string for.
I had an old Charvel with a single pickup that I regret selling almost every day. The hot rod would more than make up for that. I'm really hoping you guys get a US dealer or two after NAMM.
These are probably two of the most, the only word I could use for it is pure, sounding guitars I've heard recently.
The ML2 sounds so so sweet. I'm getting one.
Is it just me, or is the ML1 Hotrod absolutely PERFECT for anything Van Halen?! Coil taps for "Hot for Teacher", Floyd Rose, the single bridge pickup, volume control. Only thing missing is maple neck....
I'm somewhat in love with that goldie ML2... Damn me and my perpetual shortness of cash.
Love that lovely goldtop-like ML-2!
:-) Well done. Again, I am happy that you did take the approach of more limited runs of guitars. Hopefully new retailers will jump on board with the concept of being able to get a short run of exclusive designs.
Either way, congrats :-)
Awesome stuff guys! Lovely playing, lovely guitars!
10:23 That lick!!! ...
Just for that I think I'm gonna buy that killer hotrod thing!
That last jam was so cool!
Awesome! The gold ML2 is so badass!
I've got a Hotrod ML-1. It's one of the best guitars I've ever played.
what i love about the cap is when demoing something in clean most people would strum or pick some basic chords, then hes just here noodling the loveliest lil blues patterns. why hasnt he recorded an album, or at least an e.p. i would buy that shit, especially a physical copy
dorje?
+Eirik Bevektg Lee is the captain, on the left. He's not in Dorje.
You should keep doing this badass guitar!!! And it would also be good if you sell your Chapman guitars in Mexico. Sure you would have more buyers than in Colombia!
I want that ML-1 so bad - it sounds so good!
i recently modded my les paul to have a push pull for the peter green mod, its quite a lot of fun, got me to put down my jazzmaster for a while and play my les paul which has been neglected and rarely played the last few months.
A friend of mine made a frankenstein replica out of the hotrod.
That ML-1 Hot Rod reminds me of EVH Wolfgang in some ways. sounds great.
Those look and sound great! I'd love to see one with a Floyd, TWO humbuckers, and 24 frets!
That ML-2 sounds f*ck1ng amazing through that Fender!
Beautiful guitars, awesome Gold top Ml2
Best sounding video in ... what seems like a long time. Daaaaang.
Also, for a special run... ML2 with Graphtech Resomax wraparound bridge and speed knobs.
I LOVE my MM axis, but i would love to see it in a Strat package.
Simply a basswood body, transparent maple top. Flame maple neck, down only floyd etc.. And the assymetrical neck profile is among the most important things!
Fair play guys! Those are some great guitars you've made there
Best sounding guitars of the line. Wow!
The captain's playing is great on this!
Wow, you make that guitar scream mate! Great to hear :)
I think this juicy jam, is the best you did.
I do like 24 fret guitars but I think for the ml-2 should have been 22 since it's going for the traditionally vibe.
Why not do a White ML-2 special run? I know it's probably more work with the white finish but I think it would sell well! I would certainly purchase one.
Wrong about P Green's les Paul. He did a pickup repair and they put the magnet back the wrong way. Hence there is no 'wiring' to it. The problem I have with Chapman Guitars is that they're like Pokémon. I wanna collect them all!!!! Sweet looking guitars guys! Keep up the good work.
I really liked the Captains solo on this video. He is definitely improving.
I love single pickup guitars!!!!!
There is. No s pick. In that video so. Why are u even here
Ml2 stealth. All black hardware, Seymour duncan blackouts. Matte black finish.
I really like that goldtop and its firmly number one on my next guitar list.
these sound great! Really like what you guys do!
I love goldtops, and the week after I buy my black cherry ML2, they bring out a goldtop. Good thing I love the red one too
I just got the ML 2 goldtop with Seymour Duncans. Really like it. Haven't pickup up my Les Paul since it got it.
The Capt. Sounds great on that gold top.
love the look of the first one
The hot rod is so cool!
Hey chappers, I want a hot rod ML1 with a Lace fingerburner pickup for further reduced drag, scalloped fretboard, replace the volume with a kill switch so the pickup goes straight out when active, and sanguine red finish...
Now I just gotta save up to make it happen haha!
I think that ml2 is the best sounding guitar you have made yet and that's a sweet price too.If i had the cash i would be all over that.
rob can you please carry on with the classic ml-2 the finish just looks stunning
I'd love to see an ml-1, matte black, floyd rose, black hardware and two active humbuckers. Metal as hell lol
Very nice,Classic ML2 especially.Half the price of a LP ,sweet case too.
