While I prefer Noir slightly better tuning (regular pilgrim has a bit too much upper mids) it absolutely isn't worth $400 extra over Pilgrim for me. Especially when I can buy my friends UM Indigo for $825 used.
This seems like it was made just to widen the profit margin and make the "budget" Pilgrim a reality, rather than having one Pilgrim version for 5-600 dollars where it would be less competitive. Sharing costs between the two versions, a different color, nicer cable, a bit better tuning, all of those are small added expenses for Elysian compared to the Noir being almost double the price. The 3-400 dollar segments seems really competitive recently and also one of those price ranges that is popular even for non audiophiles who just want a good set of IEMs (thanks to the wireless buds market to make a 250-300 dollar for a set of earphones normal).
I personally prefer the OG pilgrim, it has slightly more details, but i also cant forget the fuller sound of the Noir. Oh god so much confusion is there lol
These iems basically asked everyone to compare them, so it's kind of wild that they went ahead and made it so obvious that most of the price difference is just from swapping from a cable that retails for $40 to one that retails for $300. They could have kept the tuning the same and had the Noir be just a limited edition colour and cable. Or they could have had two tunings priced in spitting distance of each other, maybe with the option of getting the fancy cable for either. Instead they combined the alternate tuning with a cable upsell so that anyone interested in the Noir's tuning feels like they're getting fleeced unless they coincidentally happen to be a cable person. Or if they had released the Noir without the basic Pilgrim, $800 would probably just have gotten the reaction that while expensive it was at least Elysian's cheapest iem.

Nice review, Mark. I can't see the justification for the double price increase for Noir. Many nice IEMs are being released this year at a much more affordable price.
Are any $800 IEMs justified? It's in the eye of the beholder, and IMO there are certainly worse $800 IEMs than this. But ultimately it comes down to: Do you want it? How bad?
@@humanbass Yeah. Pretty much gotta pay the effect audio price. Personally, they don't impress me. My Diva's cable became faulty after shaking it once. Ended up having to order a relatively cheap cable to ensure my IEM wasn't broken, it's been going strong for a year. So I would rather buy a reasonably priced cable than that rubbish; literally, the only cable I've had to replace because a connector broke.

Worth it depends on the person. I found the noir to be just as detailed and energetic, but a little warmer and a little more bass. It sounds more refined to me and better overall. Most people won’t find it “worth it”, but if want the better sound, noir is better

How would you compare this to the U4S? (Same driver configuration, $300 difference in price, but both made by high end brands, etc.). Would you say these iem’s are more similar than different?
@@jackhandy6211i'd done test both and monarch mk III. Couldn't agree more, u4s makes you "wow"... But one thing that put me off is the vocal high - treble, it just more intense / more quantity / not neat as noir and mk III, maybe it use tia driver or my playlist mostly jpop, jrock. You should audition 1st, even though it sound much better, it doesnt matter if you're not enjoying the music

Hello Sir I need a suggestion I'm currently using Moondrop SSR(my first IEM) which I love though I've heard some find it to be shouty or on the brighter side. Which means I'm not sensitive to peaky treble or mids. Now I'm planning to get a new IEM which is good at detail retrieval and is transparent sounding. I won't mind if it's bright or warm sounding as long as I get great details for the price alongside being transparent sounding. I've read reviews of Etymotic ER2SE is somewhat similar to what I'm looking for but it's way over my budget. I want to get a set at the minimum price possible. The max I can stretch my budget is 70-90$. I have two options in my mind considering detail retrieval in that price range, first the Simgot EA500lm but I've heard these are coloured and not transparent at all(which is why I'm hesitant to go for it) second is the Truthear Hexa which is relatively transparent and warm relaxed sounding but has good detail retrieval for its price. There's another IEM that I have my eye on is the Tanchjim 4u which isn't available in my country(India) through a retailer as of now. I'm not sure if I should wait for it yo arrive or go for any other alternative. I could even go for anything between the Truthear GATE or Tangzu Wan'er Studio Edition if they're somewhat transparent sounding with good detail retrieval and offer excellent value 'cause all I want is a natural sounding transparent IEM with great detail retrieval for its price (be it brightly tuned or on the warmer side). and I'm not an audiophile I just listen to classical genre and qawwali sometimes. Please suggest me an IEM considering everything I've described above. Thanks in advance. P.s. - I don't mind if there's not enough base to make it sound balanced.

This year, just Moondrop x Crinacle Dusk. Last year, also Moondrop LAN, Binary Chopin, and 7th Acoustics Supernova.
You should swap the cable between original Pilgrim and Noir then listen and compare any different.
