The Stunt Coordinator told actor Alan Rickman, who played Hans Gruber, that for the final ending stunt scene they would drop him on the count of 3. 1,2,3 Drop…but, they actually dropped him after 1; so, the reaction seen in the film is a look of genuine SHOCK by the Late Great Alan Rickman.

Didn’t McTiernan also tell the stunt co-ordination to drop him on 2 after telling Rickman they were going on 3? So the stunt co-ordinator surprised everyone.

      @film-maniac 5 місяців тому +1

It was re-released to theaters a little over a week ago. But streamers generally dont want to see movies in theaters...not even current ones. Probably because theyd have to pay attention and aren't allowed to gab all through a movie. Theyd be thrown out faster than Lauren Boebert at a stage show. They much prefer seeing big screen movies on the smallest screen possible. I doubt most of them even own a tv. Also, I read somewhere that a more genuine Xmas movie, Batman Returns got another re-release this month as well. (It had one last year too.)
Imagine if people saw a movie for the first time properly on a big screen...THEN they could opine about it afterwards on their channels. The times we live in, i guess.

Yippie kay yay is a phrase from the theme song of a classic 1950's cowboy show starring Roy Rogers. Rogers, his horse, Trigger, and his wife Dale Evans are iconic characters in the folklore of the American West as depicted in dozens of western TV shows in the 1950's and 60's.

Hearing you say to the police dispatcher "It's a Code 10, ho!" made me chuckle. I actually went to police academy, once upon a time. In Police Ten-Code, there are three levels of urgency to respond to a call for service. Code 2 means "Proceed urgently, but without lights and sirens."
Also, even though you had the wrong code, you were also technically right. Code 10 is shorthand for a bomb threat!

This was the movie that REINVENTED the action genre. Before this most of the full-blown "grown-up" action movies we'd seen coming out of Hollywood were these big dumb bullet/explosion-fests where an indestructible muscle-man solider type went around with a machine-gun blasting hundreds of bad guys with NO consequences at all (usually played by Arnold or Sly, or sometimes Dolph Lundgren or Van Damme). Then this came along and was SUCH a massive hit that the execs wised up that audiences wanted smarter, more sophisticated action cinema, with more relatable action heroes who fought the villains with brains more than brawn, and actually got BEATEN UP over the course of the story. So we started seeing more of the kind of movies that guys like John Woo had been making in Hong Kong for a few years already, with features like Speed taking this new style and crafting it into the new standard.

Right after dangling him, McClane goes to the roof (which is the ceiling he's dangling from since the stairs they fight on directly led to the roof), then the roof explosion happens. If you only know Rickman as Severus Snape, you need to watch more movies. He plays a great bad guy not just here, but in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Quigley Down Under.
Die Hard actually was his big screen debut though.

Lol calm down, they didn't say that's only where they know him from, it's just his more recent big hits. I mean Robin Hood is from 1991 and Quigley Down Under was 1990. Heck if anything why didn't you mention Sense and Sensibility 1995 or Dogma 1999 or Galaxy Quest was great. Should you be ridiculed for picking 2 very old examples? Heck he was even in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. If you wanted to give those as suggestions perhaps next time leave out the "you need to watch more movies" snark 😅

13:12 "Just kill him." "Why go through all that and waste your energy?" "Now you're gonna cause a whole scene. This was not smart."
A policeman having an itchy trigger finger is not a good thing. Police aren't supposed to fire their weapons other than in self-defense, despite. John had already caught the guy off-guard from behind, so while he was still armed, he didn't pose an immediate threat to John's life at that point. Elbowing him in the back of the head was a dumb, impulsive move, but their subsequent fight didn't cause any more of a scene than gunshots would have.

This movie is based on a 1979 novel by Roderick Thorpe. The novel is a sequel to his 1966 novel The Detective, which was made into a movie in 1968 and starred Frank Sinatra. When it came time to make this film, the studio was contractually obligated to first offer the role to Sinatra. Thankfully, Sinatra, who was 70 at the time declined

15:34 code 2 in LA means response without lights and sirens (other source says lights but no sirens). In reality it would be a code 3 (full on light and sirens, possibly with assistance), because the dispatch clearly heard gunshots over the radio. This was only for dramatic reasons to build up the connection between McClane and Powell.

The script for the movie wasn't even complete when they started filming. They had no idea what the getaway plan was for the bad guys. They decided to use the ambulance towards the end. When the bad guys first exit the truck near the beginning, there was clearly no ambo inside the truck.
Regardless, this movie was so well executed, it became the benchmark for action movies to come. And all that despite the fact that it had no big names involved (Bruce Willis was not considered an action hero at the time because he was the lead opposite Sybil Shepphard on Moonlighting... a more romantic comedy).
Originally, it was a sequel to a movie starring Frank Sinatra. He turned down the role and they changed the script from the source material to create Die Hard.

You're too young to remember, but this movie broke the mold for the action flick. Up until Die Hard, all the action heroes were big, muscular guys like Schwarzenegger, Stallone, etc. Bruce Willis was the first action hero to be an Everyman, just a normal guy stuck in an impossible situation, plus it was Bruce Willis' first serious role. Before this, he had only played comedies, in particular, Moonlighting on TV. So besides an unknown actor playing the villain, an unknown writer, and mostly second string actors and actresses, this whole movie was a gigantic gamble, but did they ever hit it out of the park.

A lot of people say this is the best Christmas movie.
Some people point out that it's not a Christmas movie because it's a movie about a guy sneaking around in a building hiding from Alan Rickman, and is therefore a Harry Potter movie.
Both sides of this debate are missing the truth that Die Hard is the Harry Potter Christmas Special.
Happy Yule/Litha! (I live in upside-downland, it's Summer instead of Winter here, but a solstice either way)
Also fun fact: When filiming Alan Rickman's death scene, they had to plan it out really carefully, because they did it as a practical effect without a stunt double. They set him up on a harness with a release clasp, and organised to drop him on the count of 3. Then the director, without letting anyone know except the guy who was operating the release, changed the plan and made sure Alan Rickman didn't know what was happening until they dropped him as soon as "one" was said. The shock on his face as he fell was more than just great acting, he was freaking out (and he was mad about it at the time, but he's been very appreciative of the result since).
