Vinny’s playthrough was very interesting! He spent 10 minutes exploring the heart-warming tribute of his friend’s house. I don’t know why he spent the rest of the 110 minutes of stream talking to himself and staring at nothing however.
It was weird, he kept walking into the walls and describing things that weren't happening. I think chat just played along out of worry. Or maybe because they thought it was funny.
@@scottmemelord6130 It almost became amusing when he was rambling about Shrek, but I got concerned for him again when he started talking about killing a dog in an alternate dimension, and then began hearing some song that doesn't even exist and insisting we go look it up...

I was so confused when vinny finished the map early on and everyone was like "NO VINNY GO BACK!". Like, I thought "What else could there be, it's a house". Boy was I wrong
Technically it still is? At least the journals in the google doc seem to indicate that (also there's the chance they could've been husbands since in the true ending there's a S + A heart and Tom (the "friend")'s lastname starts with an A, combined with the wedding ring item, a specific journal entry and i belive a secret image on the google doc implying a closer link than just friendship)
The absurd level of detail in this mod is insane, vinny and chat didn't even notice that once he re-entered the house after spawning the skulls his weapon animations changed from the classic to the enhanced versions.
I actually noticed that the weapons were smooth much later into the video (around the bath/liminal space area) and I thought they were like that the whole time, thinking "damn, Vinny's using smooth doom, nice"
Our *house* has a demonic crowd. There’s always something happening; the gunshots are quite loud. Our mum, she’s so *house* proud, until she gets right off her meds and spreads blood all around.
Amazing that vinny could show a old tribute map, even though it was only 10 minutes long the 110 minutes of Vinny just venting and telling people about his love for scoot was great.

There is one more thing he seems to have missed, alongside the .wad the creator also released a cropped picture of a newspaper obituary of the deceased friend. Once you collect all the things on the map for the good ending, you can always come back to the house and burn it down again. The hidden passage in the fence will remain there and you can open it, but this time it'll lead to a small enclosed area with a single gravestone with a QR code on it. Scan it and it leads to an uncropped version of the obituary page - with the author of the .wad also on it, revealing that he too has been dead for a long time.
One more thing that I'm aware of - one of the doors in the house has a 10% or so chance whenever you open it to lead into a huge infinite dark maze, but there's nothing in it as far as I know
Ironically enough ( i think) the bad dog is supposed to be how the author's friend saw that as a kid and the normal dog how he saw him after growing up, the room also gets bigger in the bad dog room and the same room is normal in the good dog representing a child's pov My point is basically it doesn't turn into one but the eldritch one turns into the normal one in time lmao

It's weird y'know. Like, you don't know the "friend who died" but there's the strange air of haunting sadness through the whole wad as you explore the house and memories set to the somber soundtrack.
I think it's the marriage of liminality and vaporwave that does it. You have these immaculate spaces that feel like they should be populated, but aren't, and you marry that with the gentle, ethereal synth that carries the echoes of a past that never really existed. It's a potent and evocative atmosphere, and it's probably strong enough to withstand the presence of monsters. Specifically, the presence of monsters can detract from the sense of liminality, since we tend to fixate on immediate, tangible threats over the pure, immaculate vibes of an empty space that feels like it should be populated. It's part of what separates the Backrooms from traditional liminal space, since the former takes the latter and fills it with life and meaning, when liminality tends to hinge on a palpable absence of those things. With that said, one could probably still have "threat" in a liminal video game without resorting to tangible monsters that stalk you and try to kill you. The way I'd approach this goal would be a bit like Miasmata, except the threat is less tangible and more existential. After all, one of the implicit threats of a true liminal space is linked to, well, absence. After all, you're not likely to find food or water in a place like the Backrooms, though you might have better luck in the Dream Pools of Jared Pike. Though with that said, having hunger and/or thirst, but no way to replenish it, would limit the exploration potential for a purely liminal game, so I'd probably work in some leeway for my own concept of a liminal/Backrooms kind of game. In a way, the conceptual "Ideal Margins" (my idea for a liminal exploration game) would be kind of a survival Metroidvania, where you're exploring these liminal spaces in order to find a way out of the titular Ideal Margins, where the idea of liminal spaces flourishes in the margins outside of baseline reality. However, while encounters with other travellers, or even entities, are vanishingly rare at first, not all spaces are "empty", even though one would expect them to be. Vending machines are mysteriously well-stocked. Drinking fountains may dispense fresh water of unnatural purity. Hastily-abandoned indoor campsites show up every now and then. And every so often, you might find a cooked burger sitting in the hot hold of an otherwise-silent Chimpy's. Something has been trying to make these liminal spaces more "liveable". But equally, there are things that are not happy about this encroachment of life and alternative meaning onto such pure manifestations of immaculate liminality, bringing chaos and filth to something so pure and perfect. Yet they will not lash out directly, for direct confrontations do not gel with their purview of immaculacy. After all, they would rather wear down intruders with their winnowing presence alone, then cast them out into oblivion when they are too weak to fight back. It would be less of a hassle for them, compared to the rigmarole of cutting them down and dealing with all that horrid mess. You are not likely to catch any more than a fleeting glimpse of these "Caretakers", but the player will know their presence by a change in the ambience, and may intuit their nature by the effect they have on the player-character. As implied earlier, the player-character would have certain needs to attend to like hunger and thirst, but unlike in a lot of survival games, the associated meters would change at a much more realistic rate depending on activity and environmental factors (for instance, warm and/or dry environments make you thirstier quicker), taking cumulative real-life hours to decline as opposed to mere minutes, so it's not nearly as obnoxious. That is, of course, how it is without the presence of a Caretaker. But if one is nearby, depending on its eccentricities, certain needs will become more pressing at an accelerated rate. You could become hungry mere minutes after having a snack, or be winded after only a few seconds of running, or find yourself in serious need of hydration, when normally those needs would supposedly take a lot longer to become an issue. If you do not know how to ward off or appease a Caretaker, your best bet is to retreat from wherever they are. Which wouldn't be all that unappealing a prospect, since there would be many ways to go other than where the Caretaker is, other parts of the Ideal Margins to explore, and all sorts of things to discover. Hell, you might actually find someone else unfortunate enough to be trapped in this place...
because the creator knows exactly the type of people who are playing an obscure Doom .wad and what experiences they'll share. everyone who can remember the 90s, even just a bit, has seen those hideous arcade-style carpets, played in a ballpit, squabbled with their friend for the controller, and by now, lost someone dear to them. there's a generational mourning to it that ties the loss of the creator's friend with the loss of the median player's childhood innocence and wonder, like it's saying "even though you never knew my friend, i can tell you've lost something you loved too, whether you knew it or not." and even if you personally aren't part of that generation, the things used to evoke it are so specific and yet so universal, such a Platonic ideal of those perfect objects and moments, that you can tell *someone* out there is deeply sad to be reminded of them - indirectly reminding even younger people of what they've lost or will lose. grief is the purest expression of love. this stupid fucking Doom map strikes at the heart of the human condition without a single line of dialogue.
It started to make more sense when the Navidson easter egg popped up. Kind of makes me feel like I'm going to get a phone call telling me I'll die in seven days.
Very early in, you can spot something more directly from House of Leaves that gives a hint to where this is going. One closet is deeper than the geometry of the house should allow. "Navidson Realty" later confirms the connection.
By far one of the best WADs (well not WAD really, as it's a PK3 file) on Doom 2 to this very day. It's complex, has replayability, multiple endings, lore, meta storytelling and an ARG sorta, a massive reference to House of Leaves, pushes the Doom engine to its limits and beyond and manages to be larger in size than DOOM 1 and 2 COMBINED. This mod has an ungodly amount of passion put into it, managing to be scary without using jumpscares. And remember, this is a *house* , not a home.
This wad was a complete mindfuck to play. I got nauseous several times while playing it but that doesn't undercut how fucking AMAZING this wad is. The attention to detail, the mazelike progression, the secrets, that feeling of seeing something that wasn't there and wondering if it was there to begin with or if your brain is fucking with you.
16:09 "This is one of my favorite things in spooky; just a gas station in the middle of fucking nowhere, beside a dark road, with woods all around. And the idea of working here alone." Welcome to like 80% of employment options in Louisiana.
You know what would make for a great spooky story? If someone got off their shift at one of these isolated gas stations, and all the roads were different. It'd basically be the Backrooms, except it's endless woods and roads and the simulacra of abandoned buildings. Or in other words, *The Backroads.*
@@GmodPlusWoW I'm reminded of a story. A friend had just gotten out of jail on a drug charge and was staying in a trailer park in the woods with some old friends. I was going to visit him, so I got the address and headed out. Because Google maybe tried once and gave up, GPS sometimes doesn't work for shit in Louisiana. My mother's address, for example, says I need to drive to Nova Scotia. Anyway, I think I'm headed the right way, as the trees are getting denser. Flooded bayou creeps up by the road, and neighbors become scarce. Now, the road is dirt; not gravel, but packed dirt. No street lights, a single power line heading in. I drive up on a barn. There are deer heads and dead chickens hanging on a chain link fence. A car is behind me, having crept out from somewhere and is following me in. I start passing by some industrial barrels and tarp, and a man emerges from the barn with a shotgun. He asks who I'm looking for, and I ask for my friend. He says he doesn't know him. I ask if the address is correct, and he says I'm about 10 miles in the wrong direction. He gives me directions, and I head back the way I came, with the car following me out for about a mile. Usual shit here. Almost certainly a meth or grow lab. But he was friendly enough when he realized I wasn't trying to be there.
theres another ending (dont exactly remember how to get it but you need specific items) that shows off another page for the document, its insane how much shit is on here, i wouldnt be surprised if theres way more in the game than we know of also nightmare difficulty makes it easier which is hilarious
You have to get all the artifacts and then start up the housefire ending; once the house disappears, you interact with the hidden door, which leads you to the QR code for the full newspaper article.
The full stream of this has very quickly become a comfort stream of mine. Between the music, Vinyot's general confusion, and the environment as a whole, it's good to watch on and off in the background.
Fun little detail: if you exit the map, you're taken to Underhalls, MAP02. If you finish it, you'll be taken back to the house map with some extra gear and get another chance at a different ending. If you exit the map in the mirror world, you're taken to a mirrored Underhalls instead.
I've been obsessed with this since the Fullsauce video came out. Watched like 3 other blind playthroughs of this. If you can, highly suggest watching the Fullsauce video after this it's amazing.
i played this mod with my friend and we spent days just exploring and finding new things it was so awesome to experience. thank you for playing this one!
There is so much to praise about this mod. But I think my favorite part is the reversed Archvile. After such little combat, and against low to mid tier demons (outside of Cerberus from Blood), hearing a twisted version of one of the most dangerous monsters in the game, especially combined with the "happiness must be fought for" in the journal, is one of the best oh shit moments I've ever experienced.
MAN I wish I saw this live. I've had that video essay about My House constantly showing up in my recommendations, but I never watched it because I thought it was overhyping this, but no, I don't think anyone could've even come close to even scratching the surface of what I saw from this highlights video alone.
I'd really like to see someone like decino do a breakdown of this wad because there are SO many things about it that I'd always been told DOOM can't do.
*cannot* believe we're doing 'House of Leaves' ARGs in Doom Mod Maps now 13:0313:45 I know this is probably just a look at the friend's whole life, but considering a lot of the narration seems to be from the point of view of the person who submitted the map, I'd like to think they fell in love and married their mate
that's what a lot of ppl's headcanon is, they are a couple, the whole funeral thing shows he was more than a childhood friend, and people are saying Tom is trans too, which would make sense with some of the items, the pills, the fact when you get in the women bathroom it's the men bathroom when you get out, "HELP ME ANNA" in the airport screen, it makes sense
I’m so glad I found out about this map just as people are getting into it. Would have been fun even finding it years from now, but this has been great for content recently.

Fun fact: in the lore it's implied the childhood best friend was married to the map author (their funerals are the same date and time)
I think it was meant to be more a fight club thing going on. They also have the same birthday.
The marrage references are references to the real life author's life
It's weird y'know.
Hell, you might actually find someone else unfortunate enough to be trapped in this place...
because the creator knows exactly the type of people who are playing an obscure Doom .wad and what experiences they'll share. everyone who can remember the 90s, even just a bit, has seen those hideous arcade-style carpets, played in a ballpit, squabbled with their friend for the controller, and by now, lost someone dear to them. there's a generational mourning to it that ties the loss of the creator's friend with the loss of the median player's childhood innocence and wonder, like it's saying "even though you never knew my friend, i can tell you've lost something you loved too, whether you knew it or not."
and even if you personally aren't part of that generation, the things used to evoke it are so specific and yet so universal, such a Platonic ideal of those perfect objects and moments, that you can tell *someone* out there is deeply sad to be reminded of them - indirectly reminding even younger people of what they've lost or will lose. grief is the purest expression of love.
this stupid fucking Doom map strikes at the heart of the human condition without a single line of dialogue.
This map is a joy to play through. The open-endedness and amount of hidden passages connecting all the unique settings was amazing.
WE GOT EM BOIS! WE MADE VINNY WITNESS THE HORRORS!

Aww, I hope the author is doing well.
edit: what the fuck
Canonically, the author is a ghost.
Yeah, that's the typical reaction.
Love the edit

"This is one of my favorite things in spooky; just a gas station in the middle of fucking nowhere, beside a dark road, with woods all around. And the idea of working here alone."
Welcome to like 80% of employment options in Louisiana.
I'm literally at one right now watching this.
That's called an echo, gentlemen we have those in Louisiana. Just a little parlour trick nothing to be afraid of
You know what would make for a great spooky story?
My house, in the middle of my house

My
Vinny is so OP at passively breaking the game, he went to the backroom faster than most people playing this game did.
Because they told him to...
This was amazing to watch Vin figure out live. I love watching him play really surreal shit that he steadily comes to love.
theres another ending (dont exactly remember how to get it but you need specific items) that shows off another page for the document, its insane how much shit is on here, i wouldnt be surprised if theres way more in the game than we know of
also nightmare difficulty makes it easier which is hilarious
You have to get all the artifacts and then start up the housefire ending; once the house disappears, you interact with the hidden door, which leads you to the QR code for the full newspaper article.
This and Terminal 7 are streams I just keep coming back to
Ah yes, such a loving nice tribute to a lost friend and absolutely not the adaptation of one of the most mind-fucking novels of all time
Lol what novel
@@NinoJoel House of Leaves
The full stream of this has very quickly become a comfort stream of mine. Between the music, Vinyot's general confusion, and the environment as a whole, it's good to watch on and off in the background.
Tragic that we lost such a talented and immensely creative mapmaker ❤
This map is completely crazy.
I wonder how long it was in development.
The person behind it must have crazy amounts of experience with the game engine
The user who uploaded this joined the forum in 2004. So potentially? This map very well may have taken 19 fucking years of coding.

From DavidxNewton to AshleyRoboto to Vinny, seeing MyHouse so much is just super fascinating. These maps are wild.

I love how Vinny fucking stumbled into the best ending
Watching the full stream of this was the only time my jaw dropped watching a Doom wad. Definitely the best one I've ever seen so far!
This is best video game mod I’ve ever seen. The level of detail from obscure, to obvious is insane.
It’s unmatched Imo.
MAN I wish I saw this live. I've had that video essay about My House constantly showing up in my recommendations, but I never watched it because I thought it was overhyping this, but no, I don't think anyone could've even come close to even scratching the surface of what I saw from this highlights video alone.
The fact that whoever made this map could fit it into a damn PK3 file, will never be the weirdest thing ever.
Goddammit I fell for the discord noise AGAIN
I love how it plays the Discord sound just to mess with you even more.
I'd really like to see someone like decino do a breakdown of this wad because there are SO many things about it that I'd always been told DOOM can't do.

*cannot* believe we're doing 'House of Leaves' ARGs in Doom Mod Maps now
13:03 13:45 I know this is probably just a look at the friend's whole life, but considering a lot of the narration seems to be from the point of view of the person who submitted the map, I'd like to think they fell in love and married their mate
I cant believe that Doomguy went into that accursed House in ash tree lane and sayed "Is dooming time" when he found the minotaur
Truly one of wads
Author had steamy gay sex in the burning house then died, truly a beautiful ending.
that's what a lot of ppl's headcanon is, they are a couple, the whole funeral thing shows he was more than a childhood friend, and people are saying Tom is trans too, which would make sense with some of the items, the pills, the fact when you get in the women bathroom it's the men bathroom when you get out, "HELP ME ANNA" in the airport screen, it makes sense
also "S+A" on the tree in the woods
Anna was maybe Tom's identity before he transitioned
Happy 30th Doom. What a great WAD to celebrate it with.
