Mine did the same thing. I could open and re close the tailgate and it would be fine for a while. There is a connector at the bottom of the tailgate behind a plastic cover between the tailgate and the bed. Mine was all crusty and had some green in it. Cleaned the debris, Electronic parts cleaner and electric grease on the connections, all is good.

Mine was showing just a blue screen. I had a car audio shop put another one in, but the FOV on it is horrible and basically unusable. Thanks for posting this. I hope my original wiring is still in place and I can use this aftermarket one off Amazon.

Those have the option to turn off the active lines. Meaning the movement so you can turn it off on the factory one also. May look at the settings to be sure when hooking up the new one it didn't shut that off and needs turned back on.

My 2016 was doing the same thing, cleaned connection & applied some dielectric grease. Haven't had a problem since.

I’d definitely get the factory one for longevity I feel those Amazon ones don’t last long and you’ll be replacing it in a short period of time!!! That’s been my luck with trying to save a buck in the past!!!

im not 100% if its on all dodge's from like the 2015-17 era but sometimes u have to go to the camera settiings where you can adjust those lines height i think is where its at or its in the main settings and u can adjust the lines and also activate the turning feature after installing new camera cuz sometimes the radio doesn't fully recognize the new camera so it resets it by default

Mine is 2013 big horn with 8.3 screen, of course i didn't have it just as all pre17 cheap trims, but installed oem version, best and only add on mod, no sensors but i can still park inch from obstacles like champ 🙂

Now that I see the camera out it looks like it has an adjustable focus (probably glued at the factory). I know the screen is capable of a higher resolution that the camera gives, I'm wondering if adjusting the focus would sharpen it?

It's a very common issue usually just wiggle the connectors and use a zip tie on the bigger connecter witch is where the issue is most common. It's due to the tailgates being opened and closed alot and just vibrations even the dealers fix is to zip tie the bigger connector to fix it. Again the issue doesn't really lie in the smaller connector on the camera it'self it's the bigger connector at the end of the camera harness.

Mine does the same thing. It's the wire harness that's the problem. I disconnect it, clean it and it's good for a while then it craps out again. Rinse and repeat 😔

I’ve always said, and ill always say it, noting like a OEM part. Pricing might be ridiculous. But you retained everything you paid/paying for. I try to always stick to oem replacement parts, unless there is a aftermarket option just as good or better.

I had the same problem on my Ram all you need to do is put some Dielectric on the connector and that will solve your problem

I wish a company out there would make an aftermarket camera that had better resolution

All you have to do is wiggle the camera cables that are in the jamb between the truck bed and tailgate. It starts working againg to after a couple of wiggles.

Mine was the loose connector right on the actual camera inside the tailgate. Been working perfectly since

@BoostedMotorsports maybe that's why mine does this every once in a while because the cable is loose. I'll have to take a look.

This issue is notorious with these trucks. Mine does it all the time and I have to wiggle the harness to get it to work. Has happened for 7 years

@@BoostedMotorsportsA neighbor has one with bolt on’s and a tune. From what I seen, it’s impressive. He has to rotate tires pretty frequently, lol.

What sucks is if you get a RAM truck that was never spec'd for a backup camera with uconnect 1.0. Unfortunately, if you buy a Camera and the tailgate split harness, you can connect it to the rear body harness fine but unfortunately the cheap buggers at RAM installs a different rear body harness from the tailgate to the left door well that excludes the actual camera wires. I'm not even sure I can install aftermarket proximity sensors. It would have cost them pennies to provide that functionality given the body harness is buried in the frame but nope, can't do. So my cool NAVOS radio goes without a backup camera. Can't believe the idiot that spec'd my tow pig 2500 originally, cheaped out so bad on the safety side with no backup camera or tow mirrors but went with 4:10 gears and Posi

Before I sold my 2017 I was getting a gray screen. I had to clean out the big connection between the tailgate and truck as some of the pins were corroded. That solved my issue, hope it maybe helps someone else.

It's not the camera probably its the plug behind your tailgate
