  • In August 2018, WQED producer Rick Sebak fell. He missed the bottom step on the short flight of concrete stairs that go out to the parking lot. He ruptured his left quadriceps tendon, and after surgery, he had to go to a "skilled nursing facility" or nursing home to recuperate.
He was lucky to get into the Transitional Care Unit (TCU) at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital where for 7 weeks he was blessed with many visitors, many gifts, and lots of delicious food.
This program features many still photos and short videos that Rick took with his iPhone, primarily for social media, now re-cast as a half-hour documentary.

Rick Sebak IS Pittsburgh. The second I hear his voice, I think of all things Pittsburgh, both now and in the past. I'm writing this almost two years after his accident so I'm sure that he is now back to doing what he does best. What a great video !!

Glad you are mending Rick. Noticed the Pittsburgh board game had a card called Westinghouse Electric company. My grandmother retired with them. She is 96 and still collecting her pension. God bless Sally Chernick.

I got a bit upset thinking we might lose you. I grew up in Pittsburgh and have since moved away (hopefully coming back ASAP) and you were my connection to home. Congrats on your recovery.... and WATCH THAT STEP!!! 🙏🏼👍🌈

I live in Tennessee now and Rick Sebak's Pittsburgh series is just the breath of nostalgia this native Yinzer needs to cure my occasional homesickness. Kennywood Days was my own personal time machine back to the 1980's and growing up in the Steel City.

My husband and I retired from being life long Pittsburgers to Florida. We miss Pittsburgh so much! Plan to move back ASAP. We are looking at continuing care communities.

I'm glad you're recovered, and thanks for sharing your (unplanned) adventure with us.
I don't know if it contributed, but there's a design flaw with those steps: they should all be the same height, but the bottom one is shorter.
