  • Here is another THRIFT FLIP.
    Many simple items changing and evolving before your eyes.
    Not the most complicated changes but I think these simple ideas are very valuable if You are up for a simple wardrobe flip or a fun sewing session.
    For me the magic happens when You combine the colours well. Some things just match well.
    I filmed the entire process of cutting clothes and making the decisions, choosing the combinations and then sewing it together.
    Even some old scraps of old shirts became something different and new.
    I hope You have fun watching this!
    Love & Peace!
    The crafty hippie homemaker!

      Thank You for this comment! I had a feeling that's the case. I grew up in England and while living in HK and Canada experience this all the time.
      I thought I was going crazy thinking textiles is the word 😂 I guess I can use both. Textiles and Fabrics as a general term 😊

    I am amazed that you dont put the items on before you cut anything! 😮 when I do these thrift flips / upcycles I am constantly putting it on + off while working on it.

      I just go with it. With practice you just know where to cut. I don't like to rely on measuring.

    I think textiles is a broad term that can include many types of materials, fabrics, trims, paddings etc

      Yes that is what I thought too. Majority of people prefer fabrics for clothing. I am so used to saying textiles, but have been criticized for that. thanks You for the comment.

    ‘Fabric usually refers to items that are designed for clothing - like shirts, trousers, etc. - Textiles can be made into clothes, but they can also be used for other things like bed sheets, carpets, etc. - Fabric is made through weaving, sewing or stitching techniques, whereas textiles are only made from woven fibers.”…….. google definition ❤️

      Thank You very much. I did Google it, and it was very specific descriptions just as you mentioned. My main confusion is in daily general language. When I have a pile of thrifted clothes, table cloths , curtains ...and they all vary and theres no way to be precise ... general term is textiles fabrics or materials. It seams everyone thinks it's different. Also depends on the country too.

    • @maryann1187

      @@hippiecrowhub, most people would probably think of textiles in an industry/manufacturing association; where they would produce materials/fabrics for the consumer. Also, you’re the first person I’ve heard use the term ‘textile’ on a sewing channel. No judgment ❤️; but, I think you can’t go wrong saying, ‘fabric’ or ‘material’.

    I was wondering if you ever cut something up to recycle and not completed it to be able to wear.❤ I know I have.

    • @hippiecrowhub
      @hippiecrowhub  3 дні тому

      That is a good point. Sometimes some projects do get delayed and some items I think I will wear more than I actually do. In that case I put it up for sale. Even if I think it is not my best execution... I just lower the price. People still appreciate the originality. I do eventually return to my projects and finish it because I do not like clutter. Of course sometimes things don't work out. Learning curves unavoidable. You can always use up unwanted fabrics as cleaning cloths :)

    I think you were looking for the word "texture" of the fabric and textiles n regards to the gingham dress?

    • @hippiecrowhub
      @hippiecrowhub  3 місяці тому

      Maybe 😊 I find myself say random words in random places... brain farts 😂
      Generally I am trying to figure out what is a correct general word for material that we use when we sew.
      At the moment most logical explanation is that England uses textiles and US fabrics.
      I am used to saying textiles but u was told I am very wrong and I must stop saying that as it is fabrics 😅 but I have a feeling that both words are not wrong.
