Tbh, iso noise doesn’t bother me. I’d rather capture the image than not. Especially at night! I feel some noise adds an element to certain photos and can help add story. BUT we’re not bumping it up to insane amounts of course where it ruins the image!
Being new to Fujifilm, I really thought I’d use the film simulations more. No matter how much a tweak with them I never get the look I want or envision!! But that’s ok. Switching to Fujifilm still has been a great experience for me and loving it!
That was me from 2012 to 2021. Then I took some time to really dial it in and I’m now happy with the time saved processing. The beauty is everyone has their one approach
A good thing to try is to figure out what your editing style is in Capture One/Lightroom, and then try and replicate that within fuji's custom profiles
I’ve been scared to do night time photography, mainly because it’s new and it’s my goal in 2023 to embrace it. Going to use these amazing tips on my trip to Korea and hopefully come back with some good pics! Thanks Reggie 🙏
why would this be a goal? you have an opportunity to shoot at night 365 days of the year. theres nothing to embrace don't make it a goal. just go outside and if you want to make a "goal", make that getting *better* at night photography.
Hey what's up man, I came across your UA-cam channel and found it very resourceful, being that I'm new the fujifilm fam. In this video you mentioned the cinebloom diffusion filters 49mm. Is there a alternative for that one? Only reason bc I'm on a time crunch and the cinebloom won't be here before I go to my trip. I'm also rocking with the x100v so your videos are super helpful
Nice work! Always evolving… About gear you mentioned the 33 1.4, but showed the 23! Which one is it? Do you feel that the 1.4’s have a big difference to the x100v 2.0? I’m struggling between the 23 and 33 1.4 . I say this because I know that eventually I’ll get an x100. Recently I upgraded to the x-t5 from the x-t2… and I’m amazed with the ability of handling higher ISO’s. I’m following your channel since the beginning, and you’re handling it very very well as a content creator/educator and as a father of two and wedding photographer! But you’re being too organized/“scheduled” you know? Give your self space for the art where you have your heart and soul, even at the expense of less views once in a while. Let it go… use the force reggie!
No, it was the 33mm f/1.4. Look at the lens mount, and you'll see it says 33. I use the 23mm 1.4 mk ii hood on the 33mm as it also fits. I prefer the metal hoods. Also, as far as organized and scheduled. This is how my mind works. But if you've been following me for a while, I'm sure you know that. I also don't photograph weddings anymore.
Excellent presentation. You are the first photographer who mentioned concerns for personal safety. May I suggest carrying pepper jell or a small caliber firearm-380 semiautomatic pistol 🔫. Emphasize proper training in the use of a firearm. I understand Fuji is coming out with an upgrade of the x100v. Any information on this new model?
Hi Kaya Reggie, is it worth getting the 33mm f1.4 lens for cinematography, especially at night, or will a f2 lens with ibis suffice? Thanks for the stylish and helpful video.
Noce video. Thank you. I just have my new x100v. I got it mainly to capture travel memories. So what I understood from your video, I don’t need to buy extra flash or light gear to capture moments at night, right?
He has an earlier video about setting up a new Fuji camera, where ISO min/max are basically the camera min/max iso. Min shutter speed, he sets at 1/160 - but in this video he mentions 1/30. Maybe @Reggiebphoto can clarify :)
Great video, but you can always do any film simulation in your editing process! The main reason I don’t do night photography is I don’t feel safe in my city anymore! 🖖
Yes and no. The film simulations and tweaks have specific hue, tonal, and grain adjustments that cannot be recreated outside the camera. All post-processing softwares are not officially licensed by fujifilm, it's just their best guess at recreating the simulation (this is official word form Fujifilm). With that said, you can very close in raw processing, or even better. But for me I'm enjoying the jpeg workflow.
Do you have a link for the adapter ring? I’ve noticed that when I use my cinebloom filter, I get a focus error a lot. Make sense now that I’ve watched your video. Lmk if you can help! 🌱🔋
am currently using XT-30.. thinking to upgrade to XS10 just to avail the IBIS feature. is it practical just to stay for now for my XT30 and just shoot using high iso up to 6400? thank you
What’s the high iso you’re comfortable shooting at night?
6400

@@thesestillmomentsso what iso are you comfortable shooting at?
12800. Full send lol
@@BrandonDavis985 That's what I like to hear.
When you shoot in RAW, you can always use the camera profiles in Lightroom, hence getting the simulations in post production with the raw file
Yeah but it doesnt look the same, the film sim jpg has a slightly different look and feel
Yup, it’s not 100% the same rendering unfortunately

Timely video for this week's challenge. Thanks for the tips!

Nice T-Shirt Reggie! Thnks for the video.

Love the reggies portra sim !! Died it in from someone else's video that mentioned it from you
Oh whose video?
Hi Kaya Reggie, is it worth getting the 33mm f1.4 lens for cinematography, especially at night, or will a f2 lens with ibis suffice? Thanks for the stylish and helpful video.
Looks like I have to start practising with my X-T4 or X-E4 for an upcoming vacation.
which filter do you use between the lens and the cinebloom filter? wondering why/how it's a risk to attach directly?
It’s an adapter. If you use it directly you’ll break the camera.
Noce video. Thank you. I just have my new x100v. I got it mainly to capture travel memories. So what I understood from your video, I don’t need to buy extra flash or light gear to capture moments at night, right?
It depends on what you’re photographing.
Hi Reggie do you use a uhd filter on your x100v. Not sure if uv a good thing to have if I’m seeking better quality pictures aloha
No. Just a CineBloom filter
Great advice, Reggie! Just one question. How high do u go with ISO? Thanks.
As high as I need to for the shot
Hey brother Reg, would you be kind enough to share your ISO min/max ranges and shutter speed settings for the Portra please?
I shoot in manual

Is the Cinebloom filter similar to the Freewell glow mist?
Possibly. I'm not too familiar with that. It's similar to a tiffen black pro mist or other diffusion filters. I believe

That dope Attack on titan tshirt though!🔥
Thanks homie!
how did you add the filter with the square hood?? will the hood screw on okay even with the cinebloom?
It’s a haoge brand hood
On a trip to India, would you use this "cinebloom moment" filter all day long? I have a 23mm 2.0, a 18 55 2.8mm and a 18 135mm for travel !
Just gotta use your judgement in real time. The 5% can be suitable for all day

ok. I am digging this 80s Stranger Things/Tron into.
Thanks man. For night stuff, the stranger things vibe is always that I go for

if you put the filter on without an adapter you will literally break the motor, and possibly damage the front glass.

Using the DR400 mode will give you about 3 stops of hilight retention.
Are you using a diffusion filter ?
Yup, keep watching the video toward the end. I talk about diffusion filters, specifically the one that I use, the Moment CineBloom.
To my taste a lot of your pictures are way underexposed. A matter of taste I suppose
