Well, maybe ONE of the opening chords was an F with G on the 1st Str. but there also is a "4th" note sounding in the chord as well as a piano bash so technically George is not correct. I think you come closer to the chord (played by at least 3 people incl G Martin on piano) by barring whole neck at 3rd fret with 1st finger; 3rd finger on 5th fret A strg and pinky on 5th fret G strg. Whack that simple chord cleanly and it's close - especially with a 12 string. It may be called a G minor 7, sus 4

He knew he was lying. Great mystery solved though.

I can't believe you're saying that the guy that wrote the bloody song is wrong. he's not wrong, he's 100% correct. the guitar plays just that, as he said, F with a G on the 1st string. Anything else Piano etc is aside from the 12 string. FFS

@@andybetts1484 Wrong. Maybe. if you watched Anthology or read books there are a lot of things George admits he doesn't remember that a typical fan remembers. I found "the chord" on my Rick 360-12 and it wasn't just an F with a G note on top. More like a G minor sus 4 which sounds "correct". He's confusing what he played for the outro which is the F with G on 1st string alternating with a straight F; obvious if you have an EAR. If you really want to get messed up - look up Randy Bachman's take on it where he allegedly has the tapes @ Abbey with Gilles and they break it down - and they are all over the map, too. (the tapes aren't totally isolated separate tracks) 🎸
