I ordered the harness and the install was less than 30 minutes with the help of your video!!! Thank you for posting, you saved me a bunch of time trying to figure out which slot to put the fuse holder in. The factory harness is definitely the way to go! I installed it on a 2016 GL450 and it was same process as your 2017.
So glad to have helped! My local dealership wanted over $1,000.00 for the parts and installation of this illuminated star - I just thought that was outrageous and price gouging! Post a pic of your lit star!!! Richard
Hi thank you for the tutorial I was able to install it using the same part numbers you provided, however, the star stopped working and now it won’t light up at all no matter what I do, fuse is not blown. Could it be because of water damage from washing the car?
Nice video! Just a quick question. Is the star always on (like the daytime running lights ) ? Or it will be turned on when you turn on the headlights are night ?
Now there is a option for the emblem light up for the 2021 GLC now but sadly if you put the driver assistance package while having the option checked it will tell you or force you to remove it which sucks.

so I'm torn! I literally was about to do this for my 2021! (My car is back at the dealership getting something else fixed, right this second). I was gonna pay the $700+ for it. Do you know if I can do this for my 2021 GLE???

@@tarshemaharrisassociates3023 ended up doing it at the dealer.... whatever i didn’t end up having to deal with the stress of damaging my car and the hours of labor I’d put into it myself because I’m over analyze everything lol. No regrets. Lol
No watch the video again - the part where I described using the scalpel to slice a small slit into the rubber gasket going into the side of the fuse box unit and then running the wire through that slit. So no holes were drilled in anything! RRR
I just completed this job and it works great. One thing though... I noticed on my home security cameras that the light lights up on its own when the car is off. I'm trying to find the pattern but it appears to happen about a half hour after the car has been shut off. It turns on for about 12 seconds, and then turns off. It’s sensing your key FOB, I bought a Faraday signal blocking bag just for my FOB key for when I’m at home or at gym and that takes care of the issue for me...
Also: In some models you may need to wait up to 30 minutes for all the electronic systems to go “to sleep”. This will allow the car to shut off any electronic consumers that stay on for a brief period after the car is parked. But, I think it's likely sensing the FOB key during this time frame. Get a key FOB bag from Amazon - Mission Darkness I think makes nice ones...

Probably unless you have the active radar cruise control thing which is contained in the round star housing as a special unit...

Can anybody post where I can buy one of those fuse holders (the red one in the video) to fill the blank slot in the box?
Just not sure how did you run the positive wire under the fuse, did you take out the whole fuse box and than insert the positive wire in the fuse box?
The fuse box has a rubber grommet were you can make a small hole to run the positive cable to fuse connector

Richard Rohde how do you get the wire under the fuse? Or when you pop the red fuse holder, is it already connected that red holster?
Obediah Anderson I recall it connects to the fuse holster thingy and the the unit slides into the main fuse slot where indicated...
