THANKS LOU! Very informative- I'm dumping Mercedes-Benz for a new Tesla. No need to buy an expensive new DieHard battery (or three) every 2 years. I'd rather spend $10-15K on a custom replacement battery-pack just once in the life of the car. The peace of mind alone make this a sound financial transaction! See you at your next video!
Did not know that he wants to charge the battery with this message in the dash. Nice to know. With todays big electronics in the cars a good quality battery becomes more and more important. In my 2007 s-class i have the first battery in the front and the 2nd in the rear. I do not drive that often so i have connected a battery maintainer to it. I think that's why they last so long. And i choosed a Varta AGM for replacment like the original was before. Have a nice weekend Lou!
Thanks Lou. A quick question. Do I need to provide electrical input to car so all systems stay active or can I assume the loss of electrical from battery is not important?
I'm old now! I had an Opel GT = used = back in the 1970s!. It was used! Great car! But! I had an battery problem! Either I'd have to get 1 special ordered from Germany or gang 2 12v together! Because it was so high compression and such a small starter motor! Next! It got extremely good gas mileage! But! It got almost impossible to find a gas station that sold " high octane gas like Ethanol or Hightest " and with each tank of gas = put it in and open hood & put tack meter on and adjust the carburetor! Ran Great! In the snow = it would crawl up and run on top of it!

Nice to know. That must be a Benz/German unique thing, though I get some notifications on my newer domestic vehicles which surprise me. Have you done a video on the whole battery registration process I've heard is on some of these high end European models? You have to program the car's computer to accept the new battery? I'm scratching my head over that one.
All the battery registers process entails is it learns the internal resistance of the new battery so it knows when its the battery is degrading by how much the resistance changes. At the moment im still catching up with that one after being gone from dealer for 10 years and now back. Not sure if its excessive resistance or too little resistance that sets the warning off. I think its less resistance, but ill do an update video on that one soon. Currently have a battery that made every one I talk to scratch their head. Wait till you see that one.
@@LaraStunkel that is an open-ended question because charging depends on the type of charger and how low the battery actually is. For most batteries 4 to 8 hours with a small charger 4 to 6 hours with a medium charger and 2 to 4 hours with a really nice big charger.
I have that message on my dash so when i change the battery do i need to coding? Also is that message will go a way after changed the battery? Do you know any thing about please?
Great video … does voltage reducer have anything to do with this issue and also my alternator charges 14.89 v .. is this considered over charging??? 2017 Benz GLC300 Thanks in advance
I get this message on cooler, colder days. It popped up just as winter was changing to spring then went away. To my surprise, now that fall is changing to winter, it’s back. It seems like under 50F it appears, and disappears 50+. The engine information screen display shows around 14.8v when running, but the warning message stays on. I’m about to check the volts on the battery itself before starting, and see what happens when I crank it using a multimeter. I had my 4 year service maintenance performed 2 weeks ago and asked them to check the charging system. I’m assuming they did, but since it was on the warmer side, then, no warning message until the other day. I’m going to call them back to find out for sure but I’m assuming they didn’t. This is the 2nd video that stated it’s the battery, I might just replace it myself. I’m just wondering why a few degrees in temperature one way or the other should matter.
There is no answer. It takes what it takes depending on how low it is and how many accessories you have on. Also if you use a battery charger it depends on the charger’s specs
Why does my 2018 dodge Durango say that to shift to P but it doesn’t when I’m driving the car and it flashes the D on the handle and the flashes the den the dashboard I took it to dealership and they cannot find the problem. Can you please help me?
Most likely a gear position issue or communications issue. Not sure why the dealer cant figure it out. If the fault is consistent then the diagnosis should be easy . Best of luck 🤞🏻
@@BaljitSingh-dl1yw There is a Technical Service Bulletin for this concern [LI54.21-P-064054]. Either the transmission control unit requires a software update or replacement if the software does not fix the issue. After replacing any of the batteries in a Mercedes-Benz a "Battery Exchange" function through the scan tool must be performed. Hope this helps!

Very useful tip, as always Lou. Great job! Thanks a lot!

Hi having this same issue now do I replace the main battery or the auxiliary battery ?
Both depends on age. But that message is for the main. The aux will say aux.
I have this issue on my 2020 Benz …how long should I charge it for ?

Message should go away once it’s replaced but you still need to have a scanner hooked up to reset the battery values in the “front sam” module
Thank you so much for information 😊
