The FIFTY - A Rarely Skied Giant of British Columbia

- Опубліковано 4 жов 2022
- Deep in the backcountry of the infamous Rogers Pass in British Columbia, Canada, lies a rarely skied beast of a line, the Comstock Couloir. This three thousand foot line is guarded by a full day's walk, multiple avalanche paths and aspects, glaciers and a giant cornice that guards the top of the line like a gargoyle guarding its castle. Now throw in a year with as weird and challenging of weather as it gets and the Comstock gets even more challenging. Spanning a month of waiting, multiple weather shut downs, the kickoff line of the fourth year of The FIFTY proves to be a difficult line to check off the list for Cody Townsend
Co-Starring: Greg Hill, Sam Smoothy & Mali Noyes.

This is why I work from home. So I can watch fresh FIFTY episodes as soon as they come out on a Wednesday morning
I've mentioned before - there's so little "turn around" content I come across. This series really illustrates the mental challenge of decision making, how agonizing it is.
Watching Cody’s “mission aborted videos” through the years is a solid reminder of why he’s still alive and able to do this. I don’t think it’s always about being lucky or having great instincts. Sometimes it’s about pure knowledge and understanding of the environment that allows you to be more proactive to the potential dangers in the mountains.
It means so much that you ended this episode with you seeing Mt. Dawson come back out of the clouds, but say 'not today, the mountain told us no'. Not reaching the objective is not failing. Thank you for documenting this whole journey for us through it all, I am beyond stoked for the rest of Season 4.
I appreciate you not glamorizing going for it when you shouldnt. It as a major face in the sport it sets a really strong example of what to do in the mountains, and shows that the glory is just coming back from the trip alive cause the mtn will always be there
If this is the sort of episodes we are going to get, I hope THE FIFTY gets to go on for years!
MY GOD! Stove on the shovel! It makes so much sense!…..no more slowly melting into the snow! GENIUS!
haha to Bjarne's comment: "I don't understand your accent man" as I am also non amaerican and was thinking the same thing:)))
“We were successful. We had an adventure and we’re home” WELL SAID!
I am INTO no chill Greg Hill energy
The kiwi pop-up was such an elegant and endearing roast. hahaha
I always appreciate the conversations you and your team have in a situation where you decide it's not the time to go for it
“We were successful. We had an adventure. We’re going home.” That’s wisdom. Priceless!!! ❤
Great episode because it shows the decision making needed not just to enjoy mountains, but to reduce danger to yourself and others in the mountains. Checking off a line means nothing if you place yourself or your colleagues in serious danger.
"We had a great adventure and that's all that matters" Love the positive attitude and perspective.
This series is such a gift! Should be required watching for every skier/mountaineer. Thank you Cody!
As always, even when the goal isn’t achieved the journey you take us on is always the best part! Major props to Bjarne as always for doing everything everyone else does but also filming it.
The mountains are always going to be there for us. It's our fragility as humans along with our expectations and plans to make a film or achieve a goal that exact day that limit us from make it to the top, ski it, achieve that goal. But ultimately, like you said, they are always there...Nice story. Thank you guys
Season 4 may have been off to a tricky start for Cody and Bjarne, but it is awesome entertainment (and education) for us! Looks like Smoothy brought the South Island weather with him.
Love this series. And I love episodes where the mountain says, "not today," and you listen and still have a great time.
