Excellent! I really appreciate the interview with Liz Lev about Fr. Rupnik's art. My homeschooled teens and I listened to your opposing viewpoints and learned a lot. By the way, it was your former interview with Lev about her book that inspired me to add her book to our curriculum. HOW CATHOLIC ART SAVED THE FAITH is an excellent book that encompasses art, history, and religion.

That “trans funeral” at St. Patrick’s reminded me of a joke a priest once told in my parish. A parishioner wanted to have a funeral Mass for his dog. The pastor told him, “We can’t have a funeral Mass for a dog”. The man told the pastor, “But Father, I was going to write a $1 million dollar check to the parish”.
The pastor thought about it for a moment and replied, “Oh, that’s different. You didn’t tell me it was a Catholic dog”.
Why is rupnik mosaic of baby Jesus, have our saviour bound in straps like his message is to bind and stifle the message in his birth. Just looking at his art , makes me sick knowing who he is and what he has done. It’s a heartless slap in the faces of all who were abused by him. Disgusting. Take it down ! His dark soul has destroyed so many innocent lives.

Thank you for sharing the historical and considered insights of Dr. Lev regarding the treatment of sacred art by unholy artists. It was informative for her to share the historical precedents of Caravaggio and Fra Filippo Lippi. Of course, that an injustice has precedent is not grounds to repeat the injustice, so I appreciate the nuanced distinctions and analysis that Mr. Arroyo and Dr. Lev presented. I do pray that Rupnik is properly tried and brought to justice for the sake of his victims and the health of the church.

Correct, a woman cannot be a priest. God gave this role to men. Life is given through a man. The man gives life through the sacraments in the Church. I am a woman and I understand the importance of this. May God enlighten the pope. You are in my prayers. Continue the great work!

With the Filioque,the Carolinian reforms , and papal supremacy, you have valid demonstrations of apostolicity-of the fact that these doctrines are logical developments from Apostolic Tradition that can be clearly demonstrated.
Quite the contrary. In some Eastern churches the wives of deacons are addressed as “diakonissai”-but the wives have no liturgical functions. It’s just an honorific title. It’s like saying “Mrs. Wife of our Deacon”.
There was a heretical sect in the early Church that did ”ordain” women-the followers of Marcion. This was one of the issues on which Marcion and his followers were condemned by their contemporaries as heretical.
Well, at the end of every Mass the Priest Presider gives the whole Church a very pronounced Blessing of the Sign of the Cross. I can feel it through my very being. Why does the homosexual couple get two Blessings? They get one at all Masses?
The issue of female ordination is as closed as the blessing of same sex unions was, as rock solid as the Catholic take on capital punishment was, as true to tradition as the translation of the Our Father was: meaning, Francis will change it all, right after some dicastery declares the change impossible.

Nothing says there is something seriously wrong within the Catholic Church like the prominence that Rupnick's work is given. No disrespect to your guest, but the gut reaction almost universaly felt by the faithful should be trusted and the art should be removed.
This is P. Francis “ incrementalism” that we have seen before. But he’s trying to get affirmation to do things outright. Then suddenly he slaps the Church with another heresy, without Bhp +/or Cdl affirmation if only by a few numbers of them and not Officially either.

I feel so sorry for these clerics that think they can do these heretical things and get away with them. God will not be mocked. Sham on them. Pray for their conversion. Also, we do get the leaders we deserve. Pray the rosary and fast for mercy. Pray for the holy souls in Purgatory and ask them to pray for us. This is what we can do. Power is in prayer!

I think the best presentation of the two sides of the debate about a female diaconate are Aime Martimort’s Deaconnesses: An Historical Study and Roger Gryson’s The Ministry of Women in the Early Church. They use the same historical data and come to opposite conclusions. I think Martimort got it right. Deaconnesses assisted with the baptism of women. The only other occurrence seemed to be later in Church history outside the Catholic communion, and these were hospital workers.
It is important that whatever comes out that we remember the distinction between ordination to the diaconate and to the priesthood and episcopacy. Deacons are ordained to service, not to priesthood. Only priests and bishops are ordained to priesthood. Deacons are not priests in Holy Orders, but deacons in Holy Orders.
Bishop McKnight’s Understanding the Diaconate, Historical, Theological, and Sociological Foundations is the best work on the diaconate. The diaconate today may not be entirely what it was historically. I am not the resident expert but I think these points are important in any serious discussion.

Unfortunately when the mass was changed the universality of the church began to erode. Before the new mass, an American could go to a mass anywhere in the world and feel at home and be able to worship the same way with their brothers and sister in Christ. They just wouldn’t be able to understand the sermon. After the new mass that’s not so! I can go to a church down the road from my house and one across town and they be quite different in character even if I can understand the language in both places. Just The ability of each priest to make choices throughout the mass alone can change the mass so much from one location to the other. And that spirit has made priests and laity think that they are the makers and changers of the liturgy. It’s been truly devastating. Until we finally admit that we’re just going to continue down the spiral we’re in.

Why can't women be deacons? The deacon represents the Holy Spirit, the bishop the Creator, and the presbuter the Son, according to the Fathers. The Holy Spirit (unlike the other two) is neither male nor female. Just because it is presently against canon law doesn't mark it out as immutable. Canon Law can be changed, and often has been. JPII said women can never be ordained as priests. deacons are not priests; bishops and presbyters are. There were female deacons in the early church, although they were largely restricted in sacramental practice to women and baptism. No reason why their ministry in this age cannot be extended; that is a matter for the church to decide. Aren't you being merely mysognistic here?

Ordaining a female couldn’t be valid. My understanding is if any element of a sacrament is different than established, the sacrament itself isn’t valid. Women are not a valid element of the sacrament.
Everyone should read Ordinatio Sacerdotalis by PJPII issued in 1994. It should be required reading today.

Actually most don’t know but Maronite rite has female deacons… and it was addressed and allowed by the Pope in the 18th century.
Here’s the deal, the Bible actually mentions female deacon named Phoebe, and it gives the temperament for ordaining a female to be a deacon, however it specifically states that only men can be bishops and priests (which they called teachers, based on Jewish ways.)
So there should be no issue with women deacons but it should be well known that’s the only place they can go to, and they can’t be neither a priest nor a bishop because it’s specifically stated in the Gospel the qualities for a woman deacon, but that they can’t be teachers (meaning priests and bishops as they are incapable of consecrating the sacrament, as only men were given permission by Christ to do so.)
As long as the Church makes it very clear that is the reason, then it should just stick to it.
But it is odd that Maronites have women deacons and have had them for millennia, and yet the Roman rite just won’t do it because of a fear, which they shouldn’t have as the Gospel’s is very clear on this.
Women can only be deacons and not a priest, bishop, etc because they are incapable of consecrating the sacraments… it’s clear what Christ had told the apostles and what the apostles preached.
But the temperament of a woman deacon is specifically mentioned, and if a woman doesn’t have that temperament then she isn’t qualified.
The Greek says that women may serve as deacons but “must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things.” -Timothy 3:11
Then it goes on to say “deacons must be dignified, not double-tinged, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain.” -Timothy 3:8
Read 1 Timothy carefully.
Now some translations say its wives of the deacons, however the Greek word used can be either woman or wife, but because it continues about qualifications for deacons, then its most likely speaking about deacons themselves and meaning women deacons, especially since when we read the passages talking about priests and bishops it’s obvious that women are not allowed as St. Paul literally says plainly women are not to be teachers, and the word for teachers back then means priests, and since bishops were priests before becoming bishops, they too are only men.
Language makes this clear.
I’d say it’s probably likely that Phoebe was a deacon and remained a deacon.
Women are deacons in the eastern Maronite Catholic rite and they have always been in union with the Pope, so yes women can be priests, but the western Church had never allowed it for their own reasons, however the eastern Church has always, and this makes me wonder why are they so scared to allow women to do such a small part?
It wouldn’t surprise me if many nuns in the first century were deacons.
Think about this, Christ brought women into the Church, as they were excluded in Jewish ceremonies completely, not even allowed to learn the Torah any more than the basic laws (unless their father’s taught them at home.)
GOD does not want women to be excluded but has provided a place for them to participate and help… and yet it is true that men ignore the roles of women and what we were given, just like many women tend to want more than what GOD has planned for them.
We all need to stop thinking like human beings and start asking GOD where and what should we do.
GOD allowed female deacons in the first century (something still evident by the Maronite rite who still has them) and made it very clear why women can’t be priests…. So why are we all arguing over this and making an issue of a none issue?
Why do so many human beings give their opinions but don’t look at the facts GOD has already provided us by both history and by HIS WORD?
Why do we not listen to what Christ told us and HIS disciples?
Let us look to GOD and ask HIM what He wants and stop arguing among ourselves.
We will tear the Church apart sheep by sheep if we all keep doing this, and that’s exactly what evil wants, as the darkness keeps trying to make us fight amongst ourselves and not listen to what GOD has told us.
Let us all get back to GOD, for HIS Church will prevail, and get back to what she is meant to do, accept all with open arms and teach them the ways of GOD which is very clear.
We can’t invite our brothers and sisters who live in inequities to us when we bicker and fight over doctrines that are established out of fear of the world, stop that. GOD already told us that he’ll will not prevail over our Church, so stop arguing, stop accusing, stop getting upset with your brothers and sisters and start asking GOD for clarity and help, and let GOD guide HIS vicar, and may we put all this energy we use to speculate and argue what we don’t actually understand into prayers to GOD for help for our Pope, our Cardinals, our Bishops, our Priests and all of our religious, and all in service to the Church, and all mankind.
Spend more energy praying for conversions to GOD and less energy fighting amongst yourselves… and not only will unity come but many people with terrible iniquities will come and convert and change for GOD as well.
We must be the change we want to see in the Church, we must represent Christ as He spoke, follow GOD and walk behind HIM and in HIS ways so that we may convert all around by our lives and ways, which is the way of GOD’s will.
So I implore all to stop trying to find devisions and start looking up to GOD and ask the right questions and let Christ guide your hearts and destroy the evil within… but we must ask GOD, and change, and see with eyes He gives us and hear with ears He gives us, and think with the new and natural heart that GOD has made for us, and change for the sake of Christ, who was crucified for us so that we may repent and change for the Love of GOD Almighty, our Creator!
Please may you have ears to hear and eyes to see to ask GOD exactly what you all should, so that conversions and Peace may come. 🙏🏽
Wrong! Christ only chose men as apostles. Women should never be on the altar. Not their place in the Catholic Church. Just go to a Protestant Church and you will be happy.
Jesus was a man and his apostles were men. Women do not belong in the altar.

The pope does not even respond to bishops and priests when asked for clarification on matters of the faith and doctrine...I continue to pray for the enlightenment of the Holy Father Pope Francis and to truly lead the Church the way Jesus would. The Roman Catholic Church founded by Jesus Christ wants to evangelize and influence the people of the world and NOT the other way around.
