Pretty much this. Part of what lead to the Empire's downfall was that they had severely underestimated the Rebellion at every step of the way. I can only imagine how much tougher things would've been had Palpatine knew Yoda was still in the fight and leading the Rebellion, frfr

Yep. Part of what allowed the rebel alliance to rise was the fact the emperor did not consider it a true threat. Yoda being there would’ve legitimized the cause way too fast when it wasnt ready. When Luke finally arrived and started his Jedi training it was in far stronger more survivable state as then Vader did start hunting Luke and by extension the alliance.

My man Yoda learned his lesson very well...Knowing that in the present moment of the Empire rising, trying to kill Sidious and Vader was a certain road to another failure. Having already faced the Emperor and failed at that, he couldn't afford another failure. If he wanted to succeed, he had to be patient. As someone said, he let the rebels grow by finding their own path struggling by themselves without the Jedi, in a way because the Jedi were very few and had to remain hidden to bring forth a new generation of Jedi to face the Emperor and Vader. Yoda played the old Guerrilla tactics way to spend time until Luke or Leia were ready to be trained. A pivotal factor of Yoda being hidden was that he along Obi-wan had already planned to recruit the Skywalker's offspring to fight against the empire and hoping to be victorious this time. That is why Yoda told Obi-wan that 'there's another' meaning Leia in case Luke failed when he went to face Vader in Lando's Cloud City.

The Rebellion's greatest tactical advantage from beginning to end was Palpatine underestimating them. Even though the victory at the Battle of Yavin made the Empire see them as it's main immediate threat, Palpatine's conversation with Luke and overplaying his hand at the Battle of Endor shows that he still underestimated them to the end and probably did not dedicate all his attention and resources on stamping them out. Having Yoda reveal his presence and participating in the Rebellion would have probably brought much more heat on them, especially any cell that he was apart of, as we know he had gone to Dagobah specifically to hide his presence in the Force. If Vader or Palpatine or an inquisitor had discovered him among the Rebellion, they probably would have brought all force to bear on him and whoever he was with.

Yoda realized from his failure that fighting the way he did last time was duplicating failure. Instead he chose to rely on the Force. The task was the Emperor not winning a war. He was more willing to look down the road and let the people grow. Struggle is part of life. Let them make their own symbols and create their own hope. Let them succeed and fail, when the moment was right and the Force willed it he would act.

One of my own personal beliefs on this topic was Yoda didn't want to paint such a larger target on the Rebellion. I don't want to crap on their initial efforts, but for a time, I feel, they weren't really a threat to the Empire. The Emperor wanted to be rid of them, certainly, but he knew they would be a thing, and now he knew who they were. They weren't really a credible threat, and so while Palpatine woyld devote resources to minimalizing their results, he could afford to let them continue to exist. They were a target for the Empire to face, but nor worry about losing to, so he kept letting a part of then exist to draw more rebellious elements out, and continue having a target to direct his Empire against. If they had had a real threat, like the returning Jedi Grandmaster, they might've become seen as more dangerous, and needed to be crushed fully, still back when they were so weak. At that point, even a powerful Jedi would have struggled to be in enough places at a time, or advising enough missions to make a bigger impact than that the Empire would have added upon them. At least to me, I feel that the Rebellion's greatest advantage was its anonymity, small scale, and sort of joke mentality. These allowed them to survive, and grow, and eventually pull several impossible victories, despite the threat they posed, or the lack of bigger threats to crush first. Yoda left them small, and unassuming enough to allow them to grow into the threat the Empire couldn't ignore, or best.

Yoda knew he he wasn't long for the world and if he defeated palps it would only be temporary because there is no new Gen to carry the torch and to change the Jedi. To me maybe if Yoda had 1 percent of the influence for luke and Leia and bringing them together and to have them to train as a jedi but also using the dark side, and with obi wan help like give them words and advice about the force but let them both choose and decide how they will end up yes but thats it

I think its interesting that the Jedi basically became what the Sith were after the Sith Empire was defeated. That had to be the Grand Plan, to do to the Jedi Order what they did to the once glorious Sith Empire. That was truly The Revenge of the Sith.

To be fair, Sidious’ ability to mask his presence in the force was so potent that when Darth Plagueis first found him it was months before the Sith lord was able to detect his incredibly powerful force connection. And a connection that immense and that well hidden with zero training, the opportunity was to good to pass up.

Figured, an it looked like, Yoda was busy doing what kenobi did a little bit.. only for alot longer in Yodas case, an just beat himself up refusing to do what he advised others to do for centuries.. EVEN Luke an Obi, get over it an move on... somehow thinking he couldnt be a much needed help both in advise an fact that he coulda single-handedly intervened in ANY of those battles, like Hoth for example, an took out all sorts of their troops.. even at his FINALLY "too old for this" age.... kinda defeats the whole argument its not about being physical an the Force could allow for ANYTHING...

He and obi wan both knew they had a different job ordained by the force. To protect and then train luke. If obi wan abandoned this post to fight with the rebellion, then the empire could’ve found him, or even maul. If yoda ended his exile to fight for the rebellion then luke wouldn’t have had a teacher with the most knowledge of the Jedi. It’s possible they could’ve beaten the empire. But the chances of beating the empire that way was lower than the chances of Luke beating the empire.

Jedi lost the clone wars by fighting at all and fighting what they believed was a sith controlled empire in the form of the separatist alliance. Basically making mistake of refighting the previous war in the new.
Yoda growing weaker and conscious of his mistakes had one big task left to do in training the new hope that was Luke and ensuring the downfall of the sith and the birth of a new changed and evolving new jedi order. Had no time or excess strength left to waste to go and fight with the rebellion.

I think this is a spot on analysis. While I think there would have been some merit in Yoda and Obi-Wan helping to train force-sensitive rebels (Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, apparently Sabine Wren etc...) I don't think Yoda was in any place physically or mentally to lead an army. And while I don't have much to go on for this, I get the feeling that he probably wasn't that great of a general in the Clone Wars either. I feel as though Yoda's raw power saw him thrust into the leadership roles throughout his career that he neither wanted nor was particularly suited for. Yoda was an excellent teacher, and certainly should have been a voice on the council, he was not suited to lead it.

Bullshit. He telling himself there's nothing he could do and already lost the war? No, he had to CHANGE. That was the one thing Yoda had to do and everything that told him he had to he did nothing and kept the status quote. Dooku and Qui-gon warned him things were going down a dark path and so was the Republic and how many viewed the Jedi. The acts of Jedi who disagreed with the war like Bariss and other Jedi should have shown them things were wrong and they did nothing. Throwing one of their own aside in Ahsoka and doing nothing to help her. The Jedi doing everything they can to drive a wedge between Anakin and themselves with every chance they can. No Yoda could have led the Jedi to victory and had ample chances, but he is the Grand Master who made all the wrong choices: complacency, arrogance, and refusal to change. Yes, Yoda realized he failed but only when all the events already happened.
