Sadly I can tell from first hand experience this is how abusive parents act

This episode got me the most out of all of them so far, having suffered abuse (both sexual and beatings) from my sitter when I was 7 to 13 I sympathised so much with Marc/Steven in this story and felt so much hatred for the mom, obviously I understand she’s just an actress playing a character but she did such a realistic job that it brought those memories right back, if done wrong then this story could’ve ended up being insulting but instead it’s honestly helped me and made me realise I was never on my own and that sadly many others have gone through this, Oscar Issac’s performance in this episode was award worthy and if he doesn’t win anything it’s both a travesty and a joke

@@ccarter008 thank you so much, the amount of gaslighting she did making me think it was my fault was what really messed me up at first and when I tried stopping her she would just overpower me, it later came out that she had had a rough childhood and basically did what was done to her to me, my mom and dad don’t know and still don’t to this day I don’t think I have the bravery to tell them but I told my girlfriend (now wife) after a year of dating and she cried and hugged me then said ‘if I ever see her she’s dead’ that’s when I knew she was the one but anyway yeah idk why I shared all this I just feel like I needed to, more boys and men especially need to talk about this especially with others that have been through it

Imo this is the best MCU show so far and i love how grounded and real they made this. Like it isn’t as quippy as other marvel movies and shows where someone is dying and they’re making odd jokes. The humor comes from the characters personalities and interactions and it really lets you sit in the dark with Marc and Steven. Can feel a bit rushed but i think thats the point since they’re on a journey racing against the clock to stop Harrow

I love this episode but it was also a personal trigger the way the mom acted was so on point and exactly like my mom whoever she drank, and the voice she had when she said “I should have known you would have done something like this” was so on fucking point that it was making me feel all the feeling in my childhood. This was a really well done representation of how people act. Especially abusive parents.

The end of the episode really gives the viewers an accurate feeling about what would happen to someone like Marc when he deals with the traumatic past
Some people would say "Yeah, you've done it" and hope the person feels happy. The show gives us Elysium, a paradise alike view of the sunset and calming place. In real life, some people would think that someone like Marc supposes to be happy because he reaches that place or state
But the real feeling is emptiness. It's not sad, also not a happy feeling. He feels relieved after dealing with his trauma, illustrated by Steven's words before on the street. But he also feels like losing something big. The DID and Steven start to exist in his childhood
Like how the viewers are left at the end of that scene. I guess most viewers will feel happy that Marc deals with his trauma. But sad and lost about Steven's death. And the most important thing is the person (Marc) usually doesn't really know what to do after

    Incredible & heartbreaking.
I think (and pray) Steven will be back in the last ep - with DID (from what I've researched, I don't have DID so pls take my opinion with a pinch of salt) an alter doesn’t just ‘die’ or ‘disappear’ when they go with integration treatment (good communication between alters, an acceptance of a system, less/no blackouts when switching etc) . If they want to go with final fusion (merging experiences, traits etc), it takes years and years, a lot of work and a readiness to fuse - Steven didn’t look at all ready when he fell off that boat and introducing the third alter and then fusing in the same ep without a chance for the character to breathe would be a weird choice for me. I don't think I'd be mad if they did it as fusing is a valid treatment, I'd just miss Steven and Marc as separate entities, especially with Oscar saying that Steven is autistic so I don't know why they'd do that when the character is so important and unique.
Either way I need 3 - 5 business days to recover excuse me while I return to my sobbing fest

It seems that the 3rd alt (Jake?) manifest at the beginning of the episode, but my problem is with the balancing of the scales without dealing with Jake's role. My current theory is that Jake is not a creation of Marc's, but rather, Jake was created by the malevolent callousness his mother projected upon him. Perhaps that removes him from weighing on Marc's soul.

I think there are many different things being communicated with the three of them in many ways. I think there is a good metaphor there for who we wish we could be vs who we are afraid we might become, but there is also the reality of what a childhood of suffering can do. Marc definitely seems to want to do the right thing but doesn’t know how. He is constantly pulled, just like the scales couldn’t balance. We haven't seen Jake Lockley yet (or have we?) I think Marc created Jake Lockley not Steven in that room as a child to deal coping with his Mother beating him. Steven doesn't remember that and seems to remember a loving Mother not a cruel one as we see Marc turn to Steven start to talk on his cell outside the funeral to his Mother not realizing there is no answer. Also we have seen in this episode not just Marc and Steven talking to Doctor Harrow in the Asylum but possibly Jake (the patient with the broken nose) as well. Jake doesn't have a British accent. He's more jersey taxi driver. Like the Marc with the busted nose. Little kid was literally speaking with a British accent and Marc admitted to it being steve. The reason he doesn't remember is because he's not real and lives in his own world. Just like he talks to his mom on his phone without actually talking to anyone. She abused "steve" but steve didn't feel it because it wasn't real to him. It allowed Marc to disappear.

I know I'm a little bit late to the party, but as an Egyptology nerd I wanted to offer some explanation just to help people understand what the weighting of hearts ceremony does, the outcomes, and what the Duat and Aaru (Field of Reeds) actually are, at least from a mythology standpoint.
The Duat was not considered Hell in the way monotheistic religions portray it with all the hellfire and anguish and whatnot. The name in Egyptian is actually "dwꜣt", a biliteral word combining "under" and "world" (which some still debate, but either way it's words similar to that meaning), but it's more of a form of purgatory than anything else. The link people make to it being like hell is mostly due to it being a subterranean realm, just like where the location of hell is described in other religious texts.
Every soul goes to the Duat for judgment. For those who have hearts lighter or in balance with the feather, they are allowed to leave the Duat and ascend to Aaru, where they live their afterlife in eternal peace, prosperity, and rest. Aaru is similar to heaven, but it's more of a paradise full of an abundance of crops, wealth, and prosperity. Ushabti figurines (or in this context, it's actually shabti figurines) represented servants who would help the deceased do manual labor or chores when they reached Aaru, allowing them to rest and relax peacefully without the worry of having to tend to the crops or make food.
For those who are unbalanced, they remain in the Duat to wander eternally, facing constant challenges as they try to find balance, some never finding it at all and remaining frozen in sand, consumed by their guilt. This is why Marc began to turn to sand in the finale, it was the guilt of not being able to save Steven weighing down his heart.
But, if a person's soul is able to heal and shed the guilt weighing their heart down, they can petition to be judged again. If they are judged again and their heart is lighter or in balance with the feather, they are reincarnated for a second chance to reach Aaru with that life. They retain no memories of their first life so as to not influence the true nature of their soul with the result of their initial judgment. Marc had already made it to Aaru, so he was not reincarnated or judged again, he was just yeeted back into his body through Osiris' gate.
However, if the person is deemed unworthy with a heart heavier than the feather, their heart-and essentially their soul-is fed to Ammit and consumed. The person's very being is destroyed. No afterlife, no second chance.
And that, to the Ancient Egyptians, was a worse fate than any hell a monotheistic religion could create.

Bruv shrooms, Idk if that’s the best mind alternating enhancements to be on when watching. My suggestion is simply Mary Jane. Being on the taps into my emotions much more and I bawled my eyes out primarily throughout the episode but especially when we see the dark pain that lies behind an abusive parent and dissociative identity disorder (DID). Marvel has written this out so well, and Oscar Isaac's performance gmfu on a cosmic level. The body language and facial expressions were everything. Just perfect. Watching Catherine's reaction was also damn perfect and raw that she made me cry again at the scene Marc left his mom's shiva. Hope to see more;(/:)

The two incomplete hearts could not balanced the two broken souls of both Marc and Steven only one or the other. Jake appeared at the beginning of the episode and was sedated. He could not be judged because he has no heart.

Steven wasn’t the one who went overboard. It was the third alter. Look how crazy he went with the bat on that last enemy and how he might not have had his accent after falling over. That is why the scales balanced in the end, because Steven and Mark had resolved their issues but not the third alternate.

The scales balanced bc now there was just one person left to judge, jake is stuck in the sarcophagus, Steven is dead, now there’s just Marc. No one else is there present to judge. If jake were there, it would’ve been 3/3 hence a whole of a person. The scales would’ve balanced quicker then.
