Ahhhh Florida! Nearing the end of October it's raining and you can wear flip-flops! I'm in Virginia in the Washington DC area and it's raining here too, but it's 40 degrees, cold and dreary. Wear sandals here and your feet would not be comfortable. Always cool to see an old crossing still in service, being brought back from the dead, or being updated.
I appreciate that my friend! I plan on going back to the CSX Homestead Sub since its been a year I visited, to see how its progressed/regressed : / Thanks as always for the views and comments!
The rock job is one of the most dangerous one. You are required to wear a helmet for that one, plus the tracks in that area are extremely uneven. So much so, that sometimes the hand brake isn't enough to hold a rock hopper in place and has to be moved a few feet to a more leveled spot. It is against FEC and FRA rules to have a cell phone in the locomotive. Good luck on getting a cab video! Thanks as always for the views and comments, Mel!
The same thing happened to Penn Avenue in Marcus Hook, PA in 1992 when Conrail decided to unite both sides with a grade crossing. This crossing sits next to an oil refinery currently owned by Delta Airlines (BP in 1992). The road serves more like a shortcut to the riverfront as there is very little traffic on the road and it gets you to the park along the Delaware River a little faster from Philadelphia and Chester. Penn Avenue is off of 10th Street (US 13), which also has a grade crossing 1,500 feet from the intersection.
I'm catching up on comments today my friend. I hope all is well with you and yours. That sounds like an interesting crossing. I'd like to see it one day. Thanks as always for the views and comments, William!

Nice Tacoma! It even cam with a snorkel. I have always wondered why they have those and yet if you come upon an area where the road is covered by water it has always been advisable NOT to go in or through the water for fear of being swept away by the water.Your truck is a beauty. I am ready for a new truck. My current vehicle is a Toyota Tundra V8 with four flat tires and a blown transmission. I have thing for Toyota trucks.
That's my baby, Mike. I appreciate you saying that. I bought a new Tacoma in 2009 and sold it this year, only because l need 4x4. But that bad boy went 10 years and never skipped a beat. I just changed the battery, brakes, and did the oil changes every 3k miles. Great minds think alike, there is nothing like a Toyota Tacoma!
It wasn't restored. It never existed. NW 87th avenue didn't go from Medley to Doral. It was just unused land and the track went through it. They connected 87th ave from 74th street in Doral to US 27 in Medley and they needed to add the crossing as a result

Why does Florida northern and Florida east coast don't use cavaliers crossing gates on there four lane crossing gates and perdertion sidewalk marker gates ? Do they think that people don't see crossing on road crossing that train is coming toward crossing
I’m a little confused (easy at my age!😄): looks like the street has changed drastically since the 2011(?) photo, not just the widening to two lanes each direction....and did I misunderstand, or had this spur rail line or crossing been taken out, then put back in sometime in 2011?
Ok, so before 2018, the road ended at both sides of the track. The track was always active. Yes, they widened the road and installed a crossing so now it connects, as opposed to before when it ended at either side. Hope this helps. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Ah okay. I just wanted to say I always watch your videos. I grew up around Kendall by the zoo and South Dade and remember those trains Even the trains along US1 back in the 1970s. There was no road. The track went through unused land. In the pictures, they were working on building the new road through that land along with the crossing
FEC is usually pretty good about signal maintenance. Maybe the one you saw hadn't been reported yet or the maintenance people hadn't gotten around to it.
Hey, good job! How much rail traffic uses this track now? To show how out of touch that l am, man they have so many flashers and gates now. Wow! The crossing is very protected. I would assume that they use it frequently. I just left a comment to you!!
Hey Gary, long time no talk! This spur sees a couple of trains daily, the Medley job and the rock job. FEC is big on safe crossings and maintenance. Hope all is well. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
I quit working for them. If you don't have enough seniority, you can't bid on a job and have to be on the call board... for a few years and you have no life. Also trying to sleep during the day is mission impossible with all the distractions and sounds there are. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Lance!
FYI, the short, rectangular boxes with the covers next to the signal houses are battery vaults just for storing batteries.
