Great review. It perfectly does its job. It's very legible and looks rugged but at the same time because of the polish, it looks classy. I also enjoy the design of the crown. It looks great on my 6.5" wrist. It's nice to know you don't have to replace batteries. It was the first in my collection about 7 years ago and would never consider getting rid of it.
I don’t think the strap is that cheaply made. It’s overbuilt, to the point where it’s too stiff and usually gets swapped for a nato! The original straps will probably last a long time.
Yeah i bought one used and if you have very thin wrists like me it's very uncomfortable, at least until you wear it in. I opted for a nato-strap instead.
Great concise review. I always wanted a relatively cheap, reliable and accurate solar watch. I was debating getting this Citizen or Timex's Expedition North solar watch. In the end, I got the Timex because it was 40mm, and had a nicer bracelet.
Honestly, the more recent Timex Expeditions are better. It comes with a nato strap, solar, screw down crown, better looking all around, and sapphire glass, all for a bit cheaper. This Citizen is a bit too basic for what it is. It doesn't need to be flashy, but it's just too basic to justify the price. This is a watch that 30 years ago would have been laughed out of the market if it was sold at even equivalent prices adjusted for inflation.
i have the same watch but I'm wondering if the bottom part of it has a sticker because mine has a citizen eco drive sticker but it should, somebody can tell me if yours is the same?
It all depends. I have this and the 38mm Hamilton auto. I enjoy both for deferent reasons. If you want set it and forget it, get the citizen. If you really like automatics then get the Hamilton. Only thing I don't like about the Hamilton is the lack of AR coating on the sapphire crystal. Unfortunately the Hamilton is about 3-4 times the price of the Citizen.
@@megaman2016 you can also swap out the crystal with one that has AR. I think that will run you an extra $60 plus labor if you take it to a watchmaker.
Compared to Seiko, it's "meh". I charge it before bed, and if I wake up in the middle of the night, I can barely read it. My Seiko's pretty dim too, but enough to be legible. But the Eco-Drive is second to none. I have another Citizen from 2005 that still takes a charge and is still running.

These are real good, taking a real beating since 2010 in salt water and sand with zero maintenance and still going. Wrist band is crap tough.

Nice watch just got it, simple yet elegant with the right strap. I switched to a black leather Hadley Roma and the watch looks elegant.

Is the tick loud enough to hear in a very quiet room when the watch is held next to ear. Is the tick sound similar to Lorus quartz watch?
No its very quiet
I can barely hear it even when it’s pressed to my ear. Zero sound in day to day life.
