Awesome…. My first car i got in 1991 was a 1969 Cadillac Sedan de Ville( i was 14yrs old ). Still own that car to this day. All original an running strong still to this day.
You mentioned the engines in all the cars up to 67...then, incredibly, you ignored the fact that 1968 also brough an all-new V8, the 472! Which by 1970 had morphed into the legendary 500! VERY significant upgrades to the deVille lineup!
Cadillac once stood as the standard of class and elegance in a car i owned quite a few in my lifetime and its style and looks were second to none..today cadillac doesn't know what it wants to be a sports car a midsized cruiser and dont live up to its history in any way shape and form just my opinion
I owned Cadillacs for many years and bought my first ford product in 2017 which was a new Lincoln continental. One never gets too old to make a mistake. Not a Ford person.
I love how tough the front end of the 1970 Cadillacs were. I love seeing a 1970 Cadillac Funeral Coach (Hearse). They had the front end that said don’t mess with me, and a rearend that looked like two fancy lipstick container. Built as a funeral coach with commercial glass was like no other Cadillac. It was hand built to make your last ride a thing of beauty in black the were sinister looking, in white more a little more delicate. White was also seen with a red beacon on the top and magnetic signage on the side, funeral drapes were removed replaced with decals that were made to go one and off in the same day. It might be he car that scraped you off the road and drove you to the hospital and also the vehicle that came to take you to the funeral home and then for your last ride. Gone are the days that funeral director wore that Manet hats, but they still do a lot. I’ve mowed the yard in a suit when the grass had grown a lot between the time the service came. Like the man the Cadillac wore a lot of hats. Now you ride in the back of a truck, but can still get your last ride in luxury. Sorry I was lost there for a moment. Now it’s a different Cadillac, but there’s some to bee said about a CTS with 770 horse power and a manual transmission. I drove a friend’s car that was luxury technology and sports car all in one vehicle.but in my opinion none compare to that 1970 Cadillac.
My X brother in law had a 62. He kept buying caddy motors, but they usually had cracked blocks or whatever that made them unusable. So he gave it to me. I dropped in a Chevy 350 out of a C-10 and sold it for $5000. I should have kept it, but I had a family to feed. He never forgave me for that.
In August, 1965, my Dad came home after work with his first new Cadillac. It was a blue DeVille convertible with blue top and blue interior. It was a really beautiful car. He had the top down whenever weather permitted and loved that car. He drove it for 7.5 years and bought another Cadillac. He would own Cadillacs over 20 years from that first DeVille. The were the quintessential of an American luxury car back then.
Quintessential indeed Ron. I love hearing stories like this. Tugs at the heart man. Glad your dad enjoyed his caddys! Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope you are a subscriber.
There exists, a simply great photo of Jimi Hendrix in Los Angeles, 1968...he is leaning against the side of a 67 Cadillac that was used as a limo service by Jimi...He is looking very cool and relaxed, just smoking a cigarette....classy Rock star, and a classy ride!
I owned a 1970 Cadillac Sedan DeVille (not my first Cadillac OR Last..Most of the cars I have owned have been Buicks and Cadillacs...) I bring up the '70 as the ABSOLUTE bargain of a car. (I know "Bargain" and "Cadillac" are not usually paired, BUT that $400 for a 14 year old car was the BEST deal I ever had!) I bought her in 1984 and kept her until 1989! Whatever that 472 CID motor "wasted" in gas, WAY more than paid for itself in 1, Luxury 2, STONE COLD reliability! Literally the BEST car I ever owned!
I have a 1969 DeVille convertible. Its been in my family for almost 40 years, and I’ve had it for the past 4. I’ve spent crazy money restoring it, and still have some small issues I’m cleaning up. It’s a beautiful car, and I get compliments every time I pull it out on the street.
Someone recently rolled through our neighborhood in a beautiful ‘67 DeVille convertible. Stunning car. The size, by today’s standards, was breathtaking.
My uncle had a 67 DeVille convertible. I remember riding in it when it was new. It make quite the impression on the family. He was a very successful attorney in what is now Silicon Valley !!!
My Dad bought a used 1961 Sedan de Ville in 1969. That was a great car, no B pillar, so all that fresh air could come in with all windows down. Sadly, I only got to drive it once or twice during junior year of HS. If I ever won Powerball, I'd get a restored '61 Coupe de Ville convertible.
Since I started getting more into classic cars the '66 Sedan De Ville became my dream car. The more I looked at it, the more beautiful it was. One day I want one of those (preferably in green) in my driveway!
My parents owned a 69 Sedan DeVille with a 472 cid 4bbl V8 and that was one impressive Cadillac to me! It will always hold a special place in my heart with some great memories.
It was a crazy over the top car with pathetic gas mileage. Never the less I owned a 68 Sedan De Ville and it was the most solid car I ever drove. It was as solid as a Sherman tank and rode like the Queen Mary. It was a beautiful car to drive on the highway.
I was six years old in 1960 and these "Caddys" are right out of my childhood memories. I could tell that these cars were something special and I always loved those "rocket fins". They reminded me of "The Jetson's" family car but with wheels. I've ridden in some of these memorable cars but never drove one. They sure did take up a lot of parking space and I'll bet it took some practice to get the hang of parallel parking. This video presentation was very well done, I enjoyed it very much, thank you for this little "Blast from The Past.
Man!! You got to see real Caddy's coming off the lines!! That is so cool!👍👍👍!!! I don't know what to make of them know!! The life blood is the Escalade and V-series,but that's it!! They need to go back to the roots like Dodge did!!
I remember reading a scathing article in Forbes about Cadillac. Try as they might, their average buyer is in their sixties and has no college degree. Not exactly the demographics you want in a luxury car brand. Really, when was the last time you knew anyone who aspired to own a new Cadillac?
My parents owned a 1963 convertible, a 1964 six window Sedan DeVille and a 1971 Sedan DeVille. My grandfather owned a 1968 Coupe DeVille. These cars are right out of my childhood. Brings back a lot of memories. I learned to drive in these cars.
That was very well done! My only correction would be that the 429 engine, not the 425 engine, became available in 1964. The 425 didn't make its debut until 1977, yet was a solid engine. My parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all owned Cadillac vehicles at some point, and none of them disappointed in terms of luxury appointments. I successfully parallel parked a 1979 Fleetwood Brougham on my driving test in 1985, so I enjoyed my time with that car. I recall a neighbor who had a 1969 Coupe De Ville in the 80s as well. It had about 275k miles on a strong 472 and new carburetor, but had a fresh coat of white paint and new front seat upholstery. It was beautiful, and that might be my favorite year Caddy, aside from the monster with the fins :) Nice work, guys! Very impressive :)
My first Cadillac was a 78 Fleetwood Brougham. When I showed it to my mother she told me she felt like Priscilla Presley riding in my car. I loved that car.
We had a 1968 Fleetwood brougham (similar to the DeVille ). Loved that land yacht. The styling I think was the best. Lol, when you floored it you could literally watch the gas gauge go down with that 32 gallon tank. Seven miles to the gallon...on the highway.
Great video! My favorite was the 1967 Coupe deVille. I had one through my junior & senior year of high school, of course it was 10 years old by then. Sold it after high school mostly due to the second gas crisis in ‘79 - ‘80 and have regretted it ever since. 😥
Thank you for this video. It is much appreciated. I think it is great to see the video and the effort placed in the video. I enjoyed the things you shared. I look forward to the rest of the series. I like the 1975-1976, 1980-1984, 1989-1993, 1997-1999 Devilles. I liked the 1994-1996 , but I liked the changes they made in 1997. I rode in a 2000. Something was missing on that one. I was not a fan of the headlight shape on that one. Then DTS took over in 2006.
A guy I worked with had a ‘76 Fleetwood Brougham painted Hemi orange. It was a gigantic land yacht with the biggest engine available, not that it was fast or anything. Sat 8 people fairly comfortably and sort of floated down the road. Driving it was sorta like driving a hovercraft, especially when cornering. Keep up the good work B Bros. 🏆
Imagine that it was Cadillac that was an industry first with Climate Control... NOT Mercedes or a Foreign make that ignorant individuals think innovated everything on most modern vehicles. Always admired Cadillac's forward thinking futuristic innovation and style.
The best translation of "De Ville" is actually "for city use". In fact, in French "voiture de ville" designates a city car. More to the point: a Cadillac De Ville and a Lincoln Town Car actually use the same name.
Mine was '58, followed by '71,72,73,74,75,and the final : '76..... ALL OF THE BIGGEST, with the 472 cu. in. V-8's and the 502 cu. in. V-8's. I've wanted to own one so badly, but where I live not possible, no room. One day, if I'm young enough, and have some land in the COUNTY, as opposed to the CITY, I'll be getting one or 2 and slowly bring them to BEAUTY again! Great show!> Thanks!
HI BOCA!!!! GREAT SWEEP WINGS,, LIKE THE CADDYSSS.... GREAT VIDEO!!!!! I LIKED THE1956 BUMPER BREASTS MY GRAND FATHER HAD ONE .. 1965 OK!!! 1967 NO!!! GRILL DID DO IT.. 1969 GETTING BETTER BIG GRILL!! CADDYS WERE BORN TO BE BIG!!! PEACE!!!
My current automobile is a 1970 Cadillac CoupedeVille, in Sauterne Gold Iridescent with dark Antique Brown leather interior. One does truly feel like Don Draper when out on the road.
My Dad had a '66 he got around '71, and especially after coming from a Dodge Dart, we thought we were in high cotton in the Caddy. It had all the tricks and rode like a cloud. Only problem was, with that 429 four bbl, once gas skyrocketed in the 70's, it cost a fortune to run. Good car though, and I still see some on the road from time to time.
no one mentioned the big fact of 1968, that kick ass 472 cu in. engine with 375hp! we had a 1969 Fleetwood brougham, white with red leather, and red pin striping, very daring. 😆 that car was unbelievably 🔥 fast! I remember driving it at 118 mph, and it still wanted to go! cheers 🍾🍾🍾🏳️🌈
@@ThisOldCarChannel Robert, I had a '90 Fleetwood. Did Michelin tires, brakes, and shocks all around. Superb road car. Had it close to 120mph on a cool spring day. The iron block engine wanted to pull higher, but I chickened out. Gave it to my nephew for a college go-to-the-beach car.
Good video guys with plenty of specs included and they all look really great. I fell in love with every one and would be thrilled to drive any of them. I'm just wondering how many owners of Caddy's in this era will convert them to electric in the years to come. I have nothing against it, in fact I think it would be a blast seeing one whip down the highway in Ludicrous mode haha. Thanks for vid, it was very enjoyable.
Nice information on some of the best looking Cadillacs ever produced. Unfortunately, some models shown in this video were not factory original. I noticed aftermarket wheels and wrong placement of hood ornaments on some models. But overall still a very good video presentation.
I had a 99 DeVille the last of the big body navy blue with 17k miles on it back in 06 I traded it in on a srt magnum in 08. When I traded it in it had 23k and they gave me 22 grand for that car
I guess it sort of depends on whether you thought of these cars as land yachts or land barges. I was in the latter group. Cadillac mostly earned my disdain because I value performance over "luxury". My father-in-law bought a new Caddy every year, up until the year that the dealership said they couldn't take his trade-ins any more because of the aroma of cigar smoke. Apparently his last trade-in was still on the lot. I did buy a two year old 1972 Olds 88 with 5000 miles and the optional 455 four-barrel Rocket V8 for $1200 during the oil embargo years. Too good a deal to pass up.
I always thought the Cadillacs had spirited performance when you compare them to other cars on the market at the same time. My 1967 Coupe DeVille did 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, which was pretty fast for that time. Sure, they got slow in the 70s and 80s, but so did every car.
8.5 seconds to 60 wasn't quite double what a Corvette would do. 4.7 to 60 according to some sources, maybe as high as 5.0. And it corners like... a really sporty boat? Probably stops on a dime?
I suppose it depends on how you define "performance". I define it as how well the car rides and how comfortable and innovative it is with its driving features. Cadillac always led the way by this definition. Being the first to offer Twilight Sentinel, Fully Automatic Climate Control , Tilt and Telescoping Steering Wheel, and the list goes on.......... .
Nothing about Cadillac back in the day says "performance". Luxury? yes. Comfort and convenience? sure. I'll even throw in innovation. They really excelled at two things: cruising down the highway and proving that you were better than the Joneses. Notably absent from the race track and the drag strip.
I loved the '68 CoupeDeville, they were so beautiful. My stepfather would buy a new Cadillac every four years, yet he was always claiming he was broke. I wonder why?
I have a 1968 coupe deville which I brought to a new mechanic for me who specializes in classic cars. Met him yesterday after he went through it to tell me what it will take to get it roadworthy. I had been driving it around the block for some years. Going to cost several thousand dollars to get her so where I can drive it around the county. Not sure if I should sell it as is or spend the money for a Sunday driving car. Hi test is over 5 bucks a gallon in my state. Has plenty of rust too.
Nice! Yeah...there were plenty of them made in the 60s. Think about the cost. I'd like to have one restored to ORIGINAL. Cruise the highway with the AC blowing cold and making my way to see family. That be cool
If you think about it, The Lincoln "Town Car" (as a name) is the "unpolished" purely American version of "De Ville", LOL. TBF though THIS history SHOULD be 1959-1984 (All of the years that "De Ville" was the standard RWD Cadillac series).
Yeah..My brother thought he'd be seeing other years in this video. We try to keep the videos below 10 minutes since view time falls at about 6 min anyway. MORE TO COME!
It's a shame what happened to Cadillac. They really cheapened the product starting in the 70's until they were just rebadged Chevrolets. Lincoln ran commercials that mocked the GM corporate look. Today, if you won the lottery, a Cadillac dealer would be the last place you would go.
My step dad only dad I knew drove a 69 coupe Deville in color of green and had the 472 375 hp engine and ran very strong I now drive a 05 Deville with a 300 hp Northstar which so far is great car but nothing like dad's Ole coupe Deville and not sure if mine could keep up and That's a fact
@@JTA1961 I can believe that. Dads when entering the on ramp to the enter state would sound and run like a wild beast and scared me several times as a child but then cruise at 90 all day like it was nothing. Best alround car I’ve ever spent time with
Now wasn't Boss Hogg's Cadillac on the tv series "The Dukes Of Hazzard" a 1970 or 1971 model? and my favorite years of Cadillacs was also 1977, 1978 & 1979 body styles😊❤👍
The de Ville was a middle-range Cadillac. The entry level Caddy was the Series 62, superseded by the Calais in 1965. Plainer interior than the de Ville, and features like power windows and seat were optional (except standard on the Series 62 convertible, which also had leather upholstery).
@@JamesVaughan You're probably right. My opinion was based on what I knew about '70s and later models. (Admittedly not much. My dad had a mid-70s Sedan deVille. It had leather and power.)

U R not alone
My grandfather had a '67 convertible, just like the one in this video (light blue w/ white top)
I owned Cadillacs for many years and bought my first ford product in 2017 which was a new Lincoln continental. One never gets too old to make a mistake. Not a Ford person.

My first car was a DeVille rag top in 1976. I was 16 and had to have a Caddy. Thank you dad
When a Cadillac was a Cadillac!
I had a friend, who for 20 years bought used DeVilles, drove them 100,000 miles then went on to the next one. They were very reliable.
Grandma drove a 1970 DeVille convt. In green/green w/white top. She had a lead-foot was always getting tickets..

65/66 Cadillacs were the best looking since 59/60, every Cadillac until 1970 looked great
Absolutely agree. 1965-66 was the most perfectly styled Cadillac ever, inside and out. An absolute knockout.
Agree! Same here

Oh Wow!!
Cadillac did not have a 502, it was a 500 cu-in V8 that was a stroked 472.
The '64 Cadillacs did not have a 425 cu-in engine but rather a 429 cu-in engine. My favorite years of this series were the 1969-1970 model years.
This is the stuff that got me to subscribe. 👏🏿👏🏿 Now time for the Fleetwood and El Dorado.
Thanks Major!!!
Loved caddys especially my uncle Tony's '81 Fleetwood brougham
PEACE!!!
That’s the biggest car before the 1980s ! I never seen one in person .
I could find one soon !
My current automobile is a 1970 Cadillac CoupedeVille, in Sauterne Gold Iridescent with dark Antique Brown leather interior. One does truly feel like Don Draper when out on the road.
The Generation 3 Cadillac Deville had parking lights but wasn't cornering lamps also introduced around 1962 or did they come later?
My Dad had a '66 he got around '71, and especially after coming from a Dodge Dart, we thought we were in high cotton in the Caddy. It had all the tricks and rode like a cloud. Only problem was, with that 429 four bbl, once gas skyrocketed in the 70's, it cost a fortune to run. Good car though, and I still see some on the road from time to time.
In high cotton...😅 ima make magnetic bumper sticker & put it on my 1970 convertible
no one mentioned the big fact of 1968, that kick ass 472 cu in. engine with 375hp! we had a 1969 Fleetwood brougham, white with red leather, and red pin striping, very daring. 😆
that car was unbelievably 🔥 fast! I remember driving it at 118 mph, and it still wanted to go!
cheers 🍾🍾🍾🏳️🌈
Yup!
I own a 2005 i and my wife love it even though it has a bad rap ! It’s been good for a decade!
Cool video ,I had a 86 sedan DeVille, dark blue and matching dark blue interior
Great video. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks DavR!
Thanks Bruce!
1966 Coupe DeVille is my favorite car of all time. 1970 1/2 Camaro is a close second.
Nice information on some of the best looking Cadillacs ever produced. Unfortunately, some models shown in this video were not factory original. I noticed aftermarket wheels and wrong placement of hood ornaments on some models. But overall still a very good video presentation.
They coming back, watch them
YUP! Thanks for watching and the comment! We can't tell who subscribes or who doesn’t, but we hope you did!
I had a 99 DeVille the last of the big body navy blue with 17k miles on it back in 06 I traded it in on a srt magnum in 08. When I traded it in it had 23k and they gave me 22 grand for that car
The Cadillac commercial at the beginning is for a 1971 Coupe DeVille.
Today, far fewer aspire to own the brand.
My 84 Sedan is typical of the 70 style. Where they reduced size was perfect! It seems like the size savings were put into tighter fit. She's solid!
My favorite is the 1970 Cadillac eldorado
Same here!
The best cadillac model, in my book, was 1956 coupe Deville with eldorado package. Those were the days......
My dad always had big GM, Cadillac mostly. He happened to be persuaded to buy a 63 Galaxy. OMG he went back to a 57 coupe de ville crying all the way
I guess it sort of depends on whether you thought of these cars as land yachts or land barges.
Being the first to offer Twilight Sentinel, Fully Automatic Climate Control , Tilt and Telescoping Steering Wheel, and the list goes on.......... .
@@BobZed Technology that was evolving quickly during that time period Cadillacs accelerated, stopped and handled great for their massive size.
Nothing about Cadillac back in the day says "performance". Luxury? yes. Comfort and convenience? sure. I'll even throw in innovation. They really excelled at two things: cruising down the highway and proving that you were better than the Joneses. Notably absent from the race track and the drag strip.
I had 4 Cadillacs. '73,'75, and '76 Coupe De Villes and a 1980 Fleetwood Brougham. Great cars until they downsized.
Personally I cared much less for Cadillac styling beyond 1970. They all just got so square and boxy!
Yup
I love Cadillac I have a 2004 Cadillac Escalade ext
If you think about it, The Lincoln "Town Car" (as a name) is the "unpolished" purely American version of "De Ville", LOL. TBF though THIS history SHOULD be 1959-1984 (All of the years that "De Ville" was the standard RWD Cadillac series).
Yeah..My brother thought he'd be seeing other years in this video. We try to keep the videos below 10 minutes since view time falls at about 6 min anyway. MORE TO COME!
@@ThisOldCarChannel Oh okay cool!
My parents had one. 75 Coupe Deville.
1968-1970!
Excelentes.Autos.
It's a shame what happened to Cadillac. They really cheapened the product starting in the 70's until they were just rebadged Chevrolets. Lincoln ran commercials that mocked the GM corporate look. Today, if you won the lottery, a Cadillac dealer would be the last place you would go.
Well put
My step dad only dad I knew drove a 69 coupe Deville in color of green and had the 472 375 hp engine and ran very strong I now drive a 05 Deville with a 300 hp Northstar which so far is great car but nothing like dad's Ole coupe Deville and not sure if mine could keep up and That's a fact
Modern 4door charger(sounded good) struggled to keep up yesterday (2/10/24) with my 70 convertible
Darn it...I should have used a clip of that 70s Caddy!
I believe it was a 1970 model year since they did not make the Deville convertibles after the 1970 model year.
Actually, the deVille was the low end full-size Caddy. The Fleetwood was the top of the line.
I'd love to have me an Eldorado. Thanks for the comment Jimbo97!
So was this the entry level, mid level or top end Cadillac?
The Eldorado was the one to have!
The 79's and then the 89 to 93's.
My grandparents had the same car
Actually they had a new coupe deville convertible every year in the 60’s until they stopped making convertibles
I did build a Jo Han 1/25 model kit of a 31 Cadillac V16 recently though...
Cadillac in it’s best years! I never cared for the ‘59, but apparently I am in the minority.
Can we get a part 2 of the deville 71-79?
My favourite was '66, after seein Brad Pitt drive one in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood I really want one
1969-70' Best nose on the Cadillac ever
66 and 68 coupe dee with white leather
I also like 77-79 I have a 79 Coupe deville. Have a soft spot for 71-72 Coupe deville.
