NO THANKS! If you provide me your paypal i pay you a coffee! I hate "peetron" & co !!!!!
We're not so different, you and I
Nuh uh, you never make tutorials charles, you should learn from basscamp smh
Charles is really helping this small channel 😂look how much this channel has grown because of Charles 🎉🎉
why is one of those basses missing a string?
Hey, thanks for the tutorial! Any advice on fingernail length? I file down to almost zero on my fretting hand almost every day, Just wondering if you keep your picking hand filed down completely or leave a little bit. I love my "utility nail" lol it's great for peeling random stickers off of things, etc... but I'll lose them if you recommend it!
Thanks from Moline, Illinois! (it's very cold out here and 'm staying home playing bass for the next few days)
Same shirt perhaps?
I heard you taught Charles Berthoud, the best bassist (after you)! You are truly amazing!
Classical Thump is daunting but keep in mind that the piece started out as just smaller exercises that Victor Wooten made to practice double thumbing, that's why you can break it up into these different phrases focusing on a different pattern. It is literally an etude to learn advanced slap techniques so don't think it's too hard to learn!
Fun fact it was actually reggie wooten ( his brother ) who tought victor the technique.
I could never ever express my personal opinions on how strongly I believe CB is an awesome bassist for making videos like this. Considering his bass playing is simply on another level, he understands the struggles from people who are just starting and makes videos like this. Im 53 and would love to shake his hand. Seriously, your teaching is the cherry on your cake.
Please part 2 ,this help me a lot.👍❤️. 1 thing, you are awesome. You are very good referent to bassist like me. Forgive my english I'm spanish.
Thanks mate, really enjoying your stuff, I’ve always wanted to learn this
Hope this lesson helps!
Always wondered how that worked. Thanks!
This man is literally the Mozart of bass, a virtuoses, a master, the best player of his instrument and who never hesitate to help other musicians to get level and to play like him. What a man
This is an amazing guide! Thank you, Charles!
Yes part 2. Amazing playing as always. Keep the lessons coming.
I can't thank you enough for this. Especially the thumb "pointed toward you" tip .. I was doing that out of necessity and thought I was doing it wrong. This really helps
Thanks Charles!
I just recently found this channel and I've always loved your bass playing! Thank you for taking the time to teach us
You make it look sooooooooo effortless; I bet you taught Charles! Your techniques are nigh indistinguishable!
"Now let's play this together nice and slow" *proceeds to play faster than anything I've managed to play to date* great videos can't wait to see more!
I NEED PART 2 MAN
Awesome video, really great and insightful. I immediately saved it to my bookmarks folder with the bass lessons, which means I will most likely never open it again....
Thank you so much for doing this!
Music somehow for me means another way to express feeling and communicate. You are inspiration for many people. Keep the work you are doing. You have inspire me to get the bass and practice a little bit every day.
Thank you so much 🌹❤️
thanks, amazing as always
Thank you so much, Charles ❤❤❤❤
This is a great piece to practice and improve this technique, thanks for sharing 🤘🏼
Хотелось бы ещё продолжения 🤩
It's been for years not playin' the bass, but I restarted playing the bass thanks to you. Thx
Yes cover part 2 please AMAZING!!!!!!
You're doing so much for effort for us, normies, miraculous, keep it up 👍
WOW, Not only are you just a huge inspiration to Bass Players, and really a phenomenal artist, but the way you can break things down for us Wee folk is just fantastic. this song is a tricky listen so it's not easy to really get what is going on, but you turned it into a wonderful practice exercise.. THANK YOU. And I'm really wanting to get that BASS......!!!!!!
I’ve been trying so hard to learn this and I’ve been playing it so wrong for so long. Thanks Charles!
i have quite a few years since i learned how to slap and continuesly used it by then. but starting at the first phase, it really stumped me how inefficient my techniques are and how my basics really bad on slap. i cant create a consistent tone and dynamics. This humbles me a lot and make me realize to start working on my fundamentals again to play this cleanly.
Great video! I learned something new again, not only a new piece but I also learn how to improve myself as a bassist.
Great video, please cover part 2! 🤘🏼
Please can you do you cant hold no grove and amazing grace I've been trying to learn them
Try searching around for a copy or pdf of The Best of Victor Wooten, it's a book full of sheet music + tab that Victor Wooten transcribed himself! It has both of those, the entirety of Classical Thump, and a whole lot more
@@tnasir2003 Nice! I'm there! Thank you!
Thank you so much 👍🙏
And yes, the second part would be really nice!
I've been learning that Stu Hamm - "Country Music" song. I'm surprised you haven't done that one yet
Please cover part 2! It would make for a very cool challenge for most of us and give me more motivation to practice!
Re Part Two... YES, PLEASE!!
Part 2 when?
I am real glad you made part 1!
Best bass teacher on UA-cam
I remember you covering this song a few years back, it really inspired me to practice this. Muting all those strings was always the biggest challenge for me when playing this piece, and I literally have no idea how are you pulling this off so effortlessly
Me too! But I was noticing this time through how *he mutes with his fretting hand.* He does a lot of microshifting so that he can always fret notes with the same finger (index) which allows him to mute with his middle and ring fingers. He might be muting his E string with his right forearm, a trick I've seen other slap experts using, but I can't be sure. I wish someone would do a Master Class on Advanced Muting Techniques.
Light gauge strings are mandatory for this piece haha 😜 Awesome little video - thanks for taking the time to create this content!
Thanks for breaking this down, very useful!
About double-thumbing on the G string, on my first bass I was wondering how people managed to do it because my hand would totally land on the EQ knobs.
I picked a new one which I think has a similar button layout as yours and it was way better although I still replaced the cap on the most forward know with a smaller cap to further minimize the problem.
please please please do part 2
I am really like it🙏🙏
thank you so much for this video, your the best ❤ could you please make a video about making good bass solos too?
Do you have any plan to release a part 2 for this series? Would be nice to have a visual reference for what I should be doing. I could do the left hand fingerings for this part from tabs, but needed the visual for right hand technique (also for changing positioning of my hand). Need help for both L and R hands in the next theme. Only been playing for about 7 months and slapping for 4, and I finally bought a bass with enough frets to learn the entire piece. Please release a part 2. Don't want to pick up the speed until I learn the rest of the parts
yay!
Your tip for double thumbing on the g string is very helpful, but i still have a problem, the space between the neck and the neck pickup is very small on my bass because it is a shortscale, so my thumb doesnt really have anywhere to land, ive tried between, but it just causes my thumb to hit the neck painfully, and if i land on the pickup the upthumb becomes very awkward, any ideas on this problem? This tutorial has been great and hasnt had any issues otherwise. So great job on that.
Рыжий, спасибо тебе за познавашки!!! =)
Tanks charles teach us
nice sir more video tutorial👍
Stu hamm 🤩🤘🏴☠️
Man I hope at one point in life I ll be able to play at least 10% of your skill
My question here is actually this:
How do you mute the other strings, especially when you are double thumbing the higher ones?
As far as I am able to tell, the lower ones were not covered by the right or left hand … yet, they did not ring out…
Thank you for the explination 😊 Is it possible for you to make othet Victor Wooten song please ? For my part I'm getting trouble to play "You can't hold no groove" correctly.
Do you think you could do one of these for the crazy live solo of Victor Wooten's The Lesson from the EMG performance?
Wow if you explain it doesn't look like an alien wrote this piece. Would really love part two of this
How to get a decent slap sound? What is your setting in amp and bass ?
Victor Wootang :D
Will you be uploading part 2?
I could never get used to the way the string feels on my thumb nail.
When is part 2 out?
Great tutorial, I have this anxiety where picking with my thumb makes me afraid of having my nail clip into my thumb's meat, hopefully this doesn't harm anyone
Ok, it's still extremely difficult, BUT it does look learnable!
Tosin Abasi really was inspired by especially this song, eh?
Tosin's first thump video mention this inspiration on the "Wooten-Esque", its cool, especially how he developed his own vision of the thump, a more heavy than funky thing.
Part 2 when?
I guess that conceptually it's not so different from down and up picking, but thumbing.
am i the only one who saw the 3 string bass??
WTF I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST REALLY FAST AND QUADRUPLE THUMBING
When you explain and show how to play it it looks easy. But I am sure you need years of practice to play it smoothly.
Alsof je met een slappe l.l op de snaren slaat 😅
It's really looks not so hard, when you know how to do it. But you need more and more practice, coz it's still hard bass part
To be honest I don’t see a use for it
Victor Wooten himself said "no one is gona hire you to do this anyway." It is for self amusement mainly. If you use a pick, it is almost the same :)
I am NOT interested in to play like Victor W. in general, BECAUSE I, FUNKYFLO, HAVE GOT MY OWN UNIQUE STYLE!!!!! I only need to more practice, but I have talent, which was gifted to my by GOD
Thank you my dear GOD, Amen! and check this musique for instance ( The Headhunters, GOD MAKE ME FUNKY)
Its not right hand technique. Its plucking hand. Give the leftys respect.
