Just to add a follow up. Raye was nominated for 7 BRIT music awards, and last night she won 6 of them ( a record) and reduced the audience to tears with her humility and gratitude.
Me too!!! One of the best concerts I have been to in a looong time! I have been following her for the past couple of years and I am so impressed with her range regards to different types of music and even different tones. Pure quality! I love me some Raye ❤️❤️❤️
I couldn't get tickets to that Royal Albert Hall one, I tried, but luckily saw her last night with the orchestra at the O2, amazing. Saw her 2 weeks ago at Bridlington Spa too with just her band, a more intimate venue. She is fab.
RAYE has been making music for 10+ years, and the 7 years prior to this album's release, she was stuck in an abusive record label. Basically, she would be writing for some of the biggest names in music, but when it came to her own music, she was only allowed to make dance/edm music, and often wasn't credited fairly for it. She was denied an album the entire time until she finally broke free from her label and went independent with her first ever album: My 21st Century Blues!! She has shocked the world, and there is so much more of her to see! I hope you analyze more of her performances! She is one of the best around!!
@@tomwhite4736 I searched for a bit and can't find the exact criteria that the BRITS Awards uses to select their nominees for Best New Artist. I do know that it doesn't always mean "new" as in actually being a new artist on the scene, but can also mean "new" as in having just recently had a breakthrough into the scene. For instance, the Grammy's criteria is: you must have a minimum of 5 singles or 1 complete album, or a maximum of 3 complete albums, and a maximum of 3 nominations for the category. Meaning, their total time in the spotlight has less to do with it than the amount of projects they have. Victoria Monèt won the Best New Artist Grammy, but has been making/releasing music for 10+ years. However, since she has not made more than 3 complete albums or been nominated more than 3 times, she was still able to be nominated and win. If the BRITS use a similar criteria, then it would make sense why an artist who doesn't seem "new" (like RAYE) would win. My guess is that it had more to do with her first ever complete album having a huge breakthrough than it did with her actually being new to the industry, since she isn't.

one thing i love about raye is that she never performs a song the same twice. every time she sings live its it's own experience and shes always adding new unique bits, makes every song so much more special and personal to her.

A couple of things: I love this channel (and you) for covering world known talent. Here in the US we don’t get exposed enough to so much talent from other countries. And your excitement, infectious and insight, so valuable! Second: you KNOW when you hear a full symphony backing up a performer that you’re in for something special. I loved this woman!!!
