    Just open doors to prime fuel pump, walk away for 15 minutes, open door again, repeat twice, fuel pressure in the lines will entrain the air in the and it will have a negligible effect on the injection system. The electric fuel pump is at the tank, so it won't hurt the pump

    • @gGeorge96
      @gGeorge96 2 роки тому +3

      @Dan123. Nope opening the door you can usually hear it prime

      @Dan123. I own a 2014 Audi A6, Done my own maintenance since I got it, replaced my own 2.0t engine after a bad timing chain tensioner killed my engine, and also I am a mechanical engineer. On a push button start the low pressure fuel pump is primed when driver's door is open. VW auto group has used the door open as a signal to prime the fuel pump since the 90s, maybe earlier. I think you don't know what you're talking about.

    New pump cost me £2500 I would definitely prime the pump using vcds, fill filter with fuel or even turn on accessory power and leave on for about 3 mins before starting

    • @kevinkainzbauer267
      @kevinkainzbauer267 2 роки тому

      Wouldn‘t it be better to turn the accessory power on & off multiple times instead of leaving it on? Because on BMWs the fuel pump which feeds the fuel to the high preassure pump only primes for about 5sec. before shutting off. So you could repeat the process x number of times to fill the system with fuel.
      But I agree with you, that you should pre fill the filter if possible, so you get less air in the system to begin with.

    • @sunkazz

      Well same as on any other car, there are many many videos how to bleed brakes, so I will not reinvent the wheel. Make sure that reservoir (master cylinder) does not run dry, otherwise you will need to bleed ABS system as well (ABS is bleed via VCDS basic settings). Pressure bleeder is very very recommended. Also 2 person pumping method, 1 person bottle method, vacuum pump, or gravity would work ok. Since these are not so safe, because you need to really be careful not to introduce air into the system, pressure bleeder is still the best. However, it is doable.

    CAUTION if you don’t use the VAGCOM/VCDS to prime the fuel system after the filter change you can destroy the HPFS.

      @Dan123. Yes really. You could have just as easily sent an air bubble through to the HPFP, destroyed it and sent metal shards through the fuel line. That's upward of $7k to replace all the parts affected.

    • @mudddge
      @mudddge 2 роки тому +1

      @Dan123. OMFG you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a modern common rail diesel engine. You're going to cost someone a bunch of money. The CP3 HPFP in my car can deliver up to 29K PSI

  • @BillCipher1337
    @BillCipher1337 3 роки тому +1

    best way to kill your HPFP. repleacment with cleaning of whole fuel system can cost up to 10k €. you should always bleed of the air via VCDS

    you should not run the car after you change the filter. you need to turn the car without running engine. it should stay like that 10 seconds. then you should run the engine. this because there is air after you change the filter. highly recommended !

    • @sunkazz
      @sunkazz  3 роки тому

      Well think about it, what can air (that is air-fuel mixture = 1) do to an engine. It will just not start up until air-fuel is just about right. For running pumps dry, however, is another story.

    • @scott2735
      @scott2735 2 роки тому +1

      @@vlmxs the hpfp is located after the fuel filter. it's on the engine with the hard piped fuel lines as the pressure it produces is extremely high hence the name "high pressure fuel pump". This type of pressure would blow normal fuel lines and the fuel filter to pieces. It needs to be fully lubricated at all times by diesel otherwise you run the risk of damaging it. You should always prime the system with vcds or obd11 ect to prevent damage.

    • @blow0me

    May I asked why you felt the need of changing the fuel filter? Was it one of the following reasons:
    1) You were getting bad gas mileages?
    2) It been certain years passed and you never did that so decided to do it?
    3) Like me, had this itch of messing around with perfectly working and funtion things?
    Also what change you noticed? Did your miles per gallon increased? Please if you can share this information.
