Samantha Harner same here! Though I find the more I read the faster I get. this is over 2 decades of reading so it's a slow process but the most enjoyable kind ever. She makes me so jealous, I wish I could read as fast so I could read even more books!
Perhaps, I'm not sure. We have one hour reading lessons at school and I just know then how many pages I get through. However that is fiction and non-fiction would most likely take longer as you take in more information.
Depends also on a few things. How into the book you get. Or how slow it is. If I am bored. Takes me forever it feels like. But if I am really enjoying it, it seems to fly by.
Emma Catchpole In america paperbacks are like 10-12 dollers or even as low as 8 (only if they are like a classic or like a picture books) and hard covers 16-22 dollers
even book depository is getting expensive for us. the last few times ive looked the books were the same price as buying them in stores :( i think its shipping costs thats driving the price up
When you read a book in 4 hours it doesn't mean your skimming or racing, it just means your a faster reader, not a big deal. Just like a page per minute.
I love your videos. And the way you described taking your book from room to room even though you're not necessarily going to read it there yet, just carrying it with you until you're ready, reminded me of me, haha.
Yay!!!! I'm not the only one who carries my book with me everywhere I go. My parents say I'm crazy but now I'm not the only one. I agree that it we carry it around because it is our story. Thank u!
I'm the same when it comes to carrying the books around everywhere! However this also means that I often misplace it in the most awkward places... like once I accidentally put my book in one of the kitchen drawers :\ And then when I leave the house, INTO MY BAG IT GOES!
OMG I do the same thing with carrying books around!! I'll take it to my bedroom, read it or not read it, then carry it back out with me into the rest of the house. And I always put a book in my purse before I leave the house regardless of whether or not I'll be reading when I go.
your video caused me great motivation in reading, a read a book for an hour and a half today, thank you very much and keep posting videos like that plz :)
I love your collection so so much! I'm an avid reader/aspiring writer so your videos are amazing! I only have three small shelves for my books and I have so many that I have to make a stack on the floor! I recently got a goodreads (and added you) and it's been the death of me! I see so many great books on there and I want them all! :D
I typically read one book at a time too, except this month since I'm having trouble finding the right book to get out of my reading block (I've got four books going at once...) but when I love a story, or on a good reading day, I read it all at once. I don't like trying to re-emerce myself into the story. I want it all in one go, no matter how late I have to stay up to get it.
We are the same habit of carrying the book around! Also I love to prolong the story I am reading so I don't do it in one sitting. Although I tend to read fast anyways because I wind up not being able to put the book down :)
Do you have any tips for reading fast/reading so many books in a year? Do you tend to skim, and how is your comprehension level when reading so many books? I'm bad for being in between several books at a time so I guess a lot of being able to read so many books is focusing on one at a time with uninterrupted blocks of time like you suggest. Thanks for any tips.
Personally for me, I will read a lot so what I do is just I will read enough to get the main points and details on the page. I have extremely good comprehension levels between different books, and that's about it.
From the comments I can tell that carrying around a book is common, lol! I am no exception, my books are almost like a security blanket! It's just that you never know when you might randomly get the urge to read or unexpectedly get a chance to read. I don't think you can really be an avid reader without developing this habit or some variation of this habit. Also, great tag/video! :)
I prefer paperback then hardcover. It depends on how interesting I find the book. Sometimes it takes me longer then a month to get through 1. Then again I've been in a book slump and the book I'm reading now is very slow. It took me over a year to get back into it because I lost interest. But I've been doing a good job at keeping up with it again. I only have 5 chapters left. Lol, I always get my books off of Amazon.
Ok so this video is over three years old now, and I don't know how often you keep up with your channel anymore, but I'll say it anyway. YA books are awesome. In fact, you and I would probably get along really well. I used to read nothing but YA books, and I still read them, but lately I've been reading more adult fiction, like Stephen King's novels, George Orwell's 1984 was fantastic, and other stuff. And it is amazing. it really opens you up to all these other worlds of book genres, and its so much fun learning. I'd definitely suggest trying to read some Stephen King because he is an incredibly talented author with great character building and progression. His books are quite long though. YA books tend to be around 400-600 pages long, and a lot of his books are at least 700 pages, but they're still good none the less. in fact, its often a good thing they're so long because you'll be yearning for the story to continue when you near the end.
Hi, I am such a slow reader , can finish a book of 400 odd pages in ten days. Do try to read two books at a time , one solely a classic or a good read only for a hour and half once a day . But a book in four hours simply takes my breath away. Great !
What is the average length of books you read? It may be because I haven't read regularly in six years, but it takes me 2-3 days to read a book. It took me five days to read through A Game of Thrones (806 pages). I couldn't imagine reading that in 4 hours, let alone one sitting. A piece of advice, you can print up a book cover so when a book is on your shelf, it matches the others. Of course, this could prove to be difficult for novels with complex artwork on them.
You cracked me up at putting the dust jacket on the shelf to make it look like it's still there! LOL! I'm betting eventually you will increase your interest to expand past YA books. I enjoy watching your videos, you seem so natural and do such a great job with them! Just curious, how many book shelves do you have?
I'm loving your vids. I'm the same way as you when I buy series. If I start off with hardback (Which is normally what I buy) then I have to stick with that. Great vid!!!
Katy, how come you are so energetic? You are 100% right! Reading is most important that I have an iPhone app called "mustread" which tracks the book i have to read and focuses me to complete it. it rates books and i can share with others too! Even Will smith said, Reading and Running is the secret to success. Thanks a lot you wonderful people
I love watching bookish-habits videos. It's pretty interesting to see what weird quirks fellow bibliophiles have. Buying a new book for every one that you read isn't so bad. it gives you more motivation, I think, more than anything. ^.^ Awesome video. :D
I usually finish a book within a couple of days (3 or 4 days). If I'm fully invested in the book then I'll finish the book really quick. #AvidReader #BookNerd :)
I agree with most your points, especially not to write in books. Only, I always use bookmarks, since the library has them for free. That looks like more than 400, though. Nice collection.
Agreed, the most important part of owning physical books is being able "to pet them"! ^_^ I think my collection is around that number and people look at me like I'm crazy. Little do they know I plan to just keep growing it over the course of my life! My dream home will not be complete without a full library!
A favorite quote from Woody Allen: "I took a speed reading course and read 'War and Peace' in twenty minutes. It involves Russia." I was very dubious of feats of speed when it came to reading until a reader of mine polished off "Monstrous" in was it four hours on an airplane? She made an important connection between an early passage and a late one that must have been helped by the fact she read both passages only a few hours apart.
I usually prefer reading a book in lots of small sittings - if I read too much at once I can sometimes start getting really uncomfortable and then rush parts and miss stuff out so I kind of stop enjoying it. There are some books that only take me a couple of sittings, but I don't think I've ever read a book all at once!
I love reading too, my favorite book's name is '' How to learn best BDSM activities in 5 steps '' It's so much touching, one day i've cried... i mean when i feel bad i read few pages of this book and i feel better it's like i've understand a thing in my life. If i can, a day i will meet these authors there's genius. I just have no word to describe them.
Wow I just came upon your channel today! And one, I'd like to say ... I want your bookcases (with the books in them)! 2) Your really good at making videos :) I subscribed!
I also always take the dusk jacket off and place it in my shelf so it seems like it isn't miss it!!! I thought I was the only one :D! Great Habit, I prove :3
I tend to read a lot of kid's books, mostly mysteries. I can usually finish two or three in an hour or two depending on how long they are. Longer books can take me a few days as I am not a devoted reader. I must have the radio playing, but I prefer to read by myself or sometimes with my sister. I do sometimes read at the library, Starbucks and on the bus. I can't usually read when I eat, because I tend to read mostly paperback and it's hard to hold the book the way I like to. I will never write in books, unless they are like work books, though I have an old crossword puzzle book that's hardback that I won't write in.
I do the same thing you do with presents. Someone's birthday? First thought: what kind of books do they like? I love researching books so I spend ages doing that before it dawns on me that they're never going to read it. :( I also take books everywhere with me. Like EVERYWHERE. At school you never see me without a book. At lunch, in Dance, Art, English, Science, I'll always have a book.
whats more important to you? that all the books in a series are in the same form (hardcover or paperback) or if all the covers in the series are all the same regardless if theyre all hardback or all paperback?
we were reading shakespeare in school and our teacher made us highlight and write all over it and i was cringing so hard. everyone thought i was insane. it was pretty funny lol.
I am exactly the same when it comes to carrying my book around. I take them to work with me, even if I know I will not have chance to read it...I take it in the car, when I'm driving my boyfriend to work at 5am...I just can't not be with a book!! I know it's odd, but I'm glad I'm not the only one out there with this weird habit!
Hard cover book prices have come down a lot since e books have virtually eliminated mass market paper back, their a good bargain now and they look so nice!
I got the Count of Monte Cristo to read, 800+ pages and they certainly went paper-conserving too cus the font is like size 8 or 10 haha, I've read about 100 pages and feel like I'm not even a chunk into it. Some books are just nuts for their length. Fun though when it's a good read! - Awesome collection, pardon the random ramblings.
I read at least 100 pages a book per day. I usually have three to four books I'm reading currently though if it's a highly anticipated book I read it in one or two days.
I have your same bookshelves. And judging by how you stand and such I bet you are around 5' 10". I am not stalking. I am just noticing your eye level compared to the bookshelves. I myself can only see the bottom of the top row when standing. So, thank you for making me feel quite short.
I THINK I HAVE A GREAT IDEA FOR YOU. I think you should make your room your in now with your books and bookcases like a little coffee house where ever wall has bookcases on it and in the middle is a couple chairs and a little round table. you can also if you want have a nice cofy chair in the middle with a table i thought that would be a cool idea for you. since i think im not sure you said you have your own place and if you do this would be great idea for you. please tell me your thoughts ty.
I just had a book splurge galore! Along with buying a kindle that has 23 projected books waiting to be loaded onto it. I also bought physical books...84 of them. I just counted. I think I got a problem. I did my student prime shipping to so Come Friday when they are all delivered I am going to bath in a bath of books.
I have the same habit of carrying my book around the house with me! I'll even take it in the car and my whole family thinks its weird! I just have to have it with me :P
it scares me that it almost sounds like you're describing MY book habits >.< i wish i had as many books as you do though! and i totally agree, i also HAVE to own the book so i can look at it and pet it and it can stay with me forever!
It's good to know I'm not alone in the "writing in a book" thing. Another thing that annoys me is when someone purposely folds a page to use as a bookmark....kills me every time...
Do you read non-fiction? The Harvard Classics is a great collection to have I think. You never write on a book? What if the author sprawls every now and then (even the better ones)? Isn't that reason enough to write something on it?
im 12 rn and i collect books when i have kids im gonna have a libary in my house and instead of leanding them old cds and movies like my parents do imma give them books #lifegoals
I always take my book everywhere I go as well. My parents think it's weird for me to take my book from my room to the kitchen(when I don't plan on reading it) but hey, I think it's normal. hahaa
Haha, I carry a book i'm reading around with me everywhere, even If i'm not reading it aswell. I always have to have a book with me, i'm glad I am not the only one :P
"when i am not on a book ban i usually buy 1-6 books a month" yeah i am trying to work my way down to that. so far this year i have bought about 80 books... in 5 months
I carry the book around with me everywhere even if I'm not going to read it too. I don't know why but I like to. Although I still manage to lose them all the time.
Imagine hardcovers being just one dollar more expensive than the paperbacks... Where I live, that difference is usually 10 euros.
ReadBySharon try bookoutlet.com I buy so many of my books from there because, like you, i live in a place where hardovers are expensive.
4 hours? FOUR HOURS?!
I am such a slow reader and i am so jealous
Same!!! It takes me so long to finish a book. #slowreaderproblems
I take forever to finish a book. Probably one or two books a month if I don't have too much school work. :/
Tessa Avonlea She didn't say how long the majority of the books she reads are. If they're around 300 pages, four hours is realistic.
For you maybe but not for everyone! I can read very well... just very slowly.
I have taken a year for one book, and ten times over. It is about quality and how much it stenches you to read more.
IT TAKES HER 4 HOURS TO READ AN ENTIRE BOOK?!?! IT TAKES ME THAT LONG TO READ 2 CHAPTERS!!!! 😭😭😭😭
me too
what
Me too ( if it is a Cassandra Clare book, the chapters are so long!)
same😂😂😂
Samantha Harner same here! Though I find the more I read the faster I get. this is over 2 decades of reading so it's a slow process but the most enjoyable kind ever. She makes me so jealous, I wish I could read as fast so I could read even more books!
Its nice to know that I am not the only person who will carry a book from room to room, place to place 📚😁
same
the idea of physical books being sold stopping scares me! nooooo
I love the physical copies of books.
How do people read fast? Like why? I always got distracted by witty lines or quote worthy sentences haha
Me too, but i still read around 100 pages per hour. Which I think is pretty fast.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that carries the book or books from room to room without knowing if I'm going to read it in that room.
I'm just wondering how you get through 300 pages in four hours?
More you read. Easier it is.
Nick Nick I think it depends on how fast your can read, for me a hundred pages an hour is average but it honestly depends on you.
Mia Foster oh i skim read. But for comprehension wouldn't you allow it down?
Perhaps, I'm not sure. We have one hour reading lessons at school and I just know then how many pages I get through. However that is fiction and non-fiction would most likely take longer as you take in more information.
Depends also on a few things. How into the book you get. Or how slow it is. If I am bored. Takes me forever it feels like. But if I am really enjoying it, it seems to fly by.
wahh in australia the paperbacks are normally 20 dollars ish and hard covers 32 ish :( i wish i could buy more hardcovers
Emma Catchpole In america paperbacks are like 10-12 dollers or even as low as 8 (only if they are like a classic or like a picture books) and hard covers 16-22 dollers
wahhh hahha :( Forever Young
Emma Catchpole That is insane, yeah our books are cheap, even compared to Canada.
even book depository is getting expensive for us. the last few times ive looked the books were the same price as buying them in stores :( i think its shipping costs thats driving the price up
Dymock prices are insane in Australia!
When you read a book in 4 hours it doesn't mean your skimming or racing, it just means your a faster reader, not a big deal. Just like a page per minute.
I read 100 pages per hour, I read Nerve in three hours or less. Fast reader, that's all.
+RednecksReadTo 22 I wish I could read fast! I've been reading harry potter and the order of the Phoenix 24/7 and it's already taking over 3 months :(
I love someone with an enthusiasm for books as well, I swear people don't understand.
I love how you calm you look even if you're excited.
I'm like Kat with the dust jacket. When I'm reading I take it off but when I set it down, I put it on to protect it.
I carry my book around school with me and it sits on my desk for every lesson...
I love your videos. And the way you described taking your book from room to room even though you're not necessarily going to read it there yet, just carrying it with you until you're ready, reminded me of me, haha.
Ahhh you have Hush, Hush, by Becca FitzPatrick!! I love it! My friend roped me into it, and I love it.
This was so relatable, especially the part about bring the book everywhere with you
When I was reading "City of Heavenly Fire" I was fully and immensely invested in the finale, that I finished it within 3 - 4 days. :)
Yay!!!! I'm not the only one who carries my book with me everywhere I go. My parents say I'm crazy but now I'm not the only one. I agree that it we carry it around because it is our story. Thank u!
I love your personnality and I'm just like you !! Same reading habits (: i love you!

I look up to you and Christine SO much for my reading material:D I LOVE YOU BOTH! Thank you for posting this, I love your videos!
Do you have any tips for reading fast/reading so many books in a year? Do you tend to skim, and how is your comprehension level when reading so many books? This was so entertaining to watch :) I'm having a katytastic video marathon :)

this should become the next TAG, im so curious about everyone's reading habits!
I nearly always get paperbacks because in my experience, paperback are £6-8 but hardbacks are usually £13-15 so they are a lot more expensive

Love how you say "i just looove books.. I just love em"... That made me laugh so hard!!! I only have about 250 in my collection :)
Hi! I recently started etching your videos and I totally love you! I can't wait until next nanowrino to do it alongside you! :)
I read at least 100 pages a book per day. I usually have three to four books I'm reading currently though if it's a highly anticipated book I read it in one or two days.

I do the same thing! I always take at least one book with me even if I know that I won't read at that place.
You kibda give me a Lily (From HIMYM) vibe.
Indumathi Arunan omg I thought I was the only onee
I generally finish reading a book in 2 or 2.5 days. It'll be so amazing if I can finish a book in a couple of hours. I can read so much more then.
$50 a month?
In Norway, that would be the price of one book (Hardcover)
And i love books... ( See the problem? =/ )
It's easy for you to buy the new books. Here is Mexico is VERY difficult to find something different.
I'm so like you..I know that ebooks might be taking over which is also why I want to have a physical huge collection..Also for future kids :D
It's good to know I'm not alone in the "writing in a book" thing. Another thing that annoys me is when someone purposely folds a page to use as a bookmark....kills me every time...
I used to be all anti-writing in books too but I've taken a habit of underlining quotes I really like :3
Wow! I love your hair in this video!
Do you read non-fiction? The Harvard Classics is a great collection to have I think.
You never write on a book? What if the author sprawls every now and then (even the better ones)? Isn't that reason enough to write something on it?
You don't get nervous eating while reading? I cannot eat at all while reading pretty hardcovers!
What do you do when you're not sure you might not like the series? Do you still buy it anyway and keep the book if you end up hating it?
You and I are so much alike when it comes to our book habits XD Its awesome
im 12 rn and i collect books when i have kids im gonna have a libary in my house and instead of leanding them old cds and movies like my parents do imma give them books #lifegoals
and ebooks defeats the purpose of books
How do ebooks defeat the purpose of books? Your priorities seem to be a little misguided.
Walter Kovacs ok it defeats ONE of the purposes of books, an escape from the busy world , ebooks just keep you on devices
I hate when I have to put myself on a book buying ban, but it really is necessary sometimes.
I always take my book everywhere I go as well. My parents think it's weird for me to take my book from my room to the kitchen(when I don't plan on reading it) but hey, I think it's normal. hahaa
Amazon is great I buy off there too and honestly I love physical stuff better than downloads although I have done that
I love physical books but I also own a kindle because sadly, where I live we dont get many awesome books
Haha, I carry a book i'm reading around with me everywhere, even If i'm not reading it aswell. I always have to have a book with me, i'm glad I am not the only one :P
"when i am not on a book ban i usually buy 1-6 books a month" yeah i am trying to work my way down to that. so far this year i have bought about 80 books... in 5 months
Do a video on how u read soooooo fast
This video makes me want to start reading again.
UGHHHHHH THANK YOU! I truly hate when people say "Is just a book, you can mark quotes or something" it should be illegal.
I carry the book around with me everywhere even if I'm not going to read it too. I don't know why but I like to. Although I still manage to lose them all the time.
I loved this video. Sooo relatable and true!!!
