Yesterday afternoon, Scotland became the first country in the UK to make it a criminal offence for parents to smack their children. The Scottish Parliament voted by a margin of 84 to 29 to pass the bill, which prohibits parents from using ‘reasonable physical force’ when disciplining their children. But, as campaigners urge the UK Government to follow suit in England, were MSPs right in their decision? Joining us to discuss is journalist, Clare Muldoon - who says smacking has done ‘no harm’ to her own children. She’s here alongside broadcaster, Rebecca Wilcox, who supports the new legislation.

How can governments possibly dictate to parents how they can and can't discipline their children in a private home setting? The government can only ban corporal punishment in public places that they have control over, such as government schools. In the private setting the government cannot set rules and regulations on how one chooses to discipline naughty, disobedient, or disrespectful children..
I'm Swedish and smacking has been banned here since the 70s, I'm very proud of my country for that. I visited England when I was 12 and saw children being beaten and I was completely shocked. It's not ok to hit adults, so why is it ok to hit children? It makes no sense.
I bet you have a lot of softies and woke people in Sweden, lol. England for the win.
