leather restoration color change interior color change
Best explanation and video I've seen so far on re-dying leather for my car project. Thank you.
Yes its just a dye, the leather will still retain its suppleness. This is why the prep work is needed.
This probably works on skin too...rejuvinate your skin, clean your skin, change skintone... Makes you look 30 years younger! :3
Or thirty years redder ;)
Maybe even orange
Ayo CJ wus hood
That's probably how Trump did it.
How much would you charge to do this process on my wife?
It will last years and years. All up the whole process is under $150
Great to know I can finally get that tan interior in a car that never had one. Thanks for showing this, I would've had no idea this method existed unless I had stumbled upon this.
Did it work?
Did you try?
I had a set colour changed 6 years, the seats get medium usage and they are still like the day they were coloured
Hey if they are a man made type leather you can go straight to the scuffing and dye. There are links in the description of where you can get this stuff from.
mxer657 Thanks mate. It will last forever on real leather, fake leather not as long.
A leather repair video would be awesome, I have some damaged leather seats too. Ill work on it..
That would be fantastic!
Not as long as forever, haha. Is that to say it will at least last one lifetime?
Robert Salazar BLAAACK, FOREVER.

How long dose that stuff last ? the last thing I need is for my misses to end up with red smudges on the ass of her dress before we go out for dinner, that's a ticket for a divorce I would like to avoid
her ass gonna be red one way or another anyways
If marriage is that fragile, count me out.

Yes, I see the problem go for yellow.
Hello,
you need to put a .com.au at the end. Yes you can change leather from black to tan. Use the same method as this video.
@pimpmyforklift I've painted panels and interior part on my car using custom spray cans from auto barn. As long as you do your prep work u can't go too wrong mate
Yes it would be possible. This change from black to red would have to be the extreme colour change. Red to black/green should be a breeze.
I would love to change the interior of my OEM leather seats from black leather to white. HOWEVER I do have cloth inserts down the middle of the bottom of the cushion as well as the portion that supports the back. How could I go about adding dye to the black without ruining the cloth inserts in the middle? Double just taping it off be good enough to hold off on the dye? Or would it seep/saturate into the cloth inserts. Thanks DAVE!
Long time viewer. Two things we are all thinking:
1. How long does this last?
2. Can you do a leather repair video?
mxer657 same anyone know?
mxer657 will last 18-24 months with proper care.
This video really just helped me out so I can do my interior myself
great job but really wanted to see how the seats would look after a few months of using
Thats amazing! The music your using sounds like the Sims free play game 😂
This is a great FAQ video
i have dealt with dave at the VG auto paints store located in very well presented shop at Girraween NSW
the team are a bunch of top blokes with great advise ..
the info supplied has helped me make this system work perfectly..
i myself have successfully restored and colour changed 20 year old ford leather seats
with this system and tutorial video
thanks again mate great video
Is this dye going to stain clothing in a damp environment?
probably
not if you seal them properly
cody mcdowell no sealer needed, let it dry completely. Little to low humidity. After painting my seats I let them sit for a week before installing.
@@M6_Paki How are they holding up?
those look fantastic. could you tape off the center section and keep it black while making the rest of the seat red.? a two tone seat if you will.
or u could just remove the black leather and replace it with red leather probably be slightly more expensive but at least you can get red leathers with black stitching or what ever u wanted
You and mighty car mods are the best car guru's on you tube !
Do you no how to repair scrach marks on the plasticy bits on a car interior , such as kick panles and center consoles ?
Do you no who and were in sydney i can get custom color spray paint cans from ? i have a metalic storm grey paint on my car , i do also no what the paint code is , i just need it in a can to repaint front and back bumper bars like you have showen on your videos .
Love your work man and how you explain it !
Hi... can i please get a full list of all the products used including lnks to where i can buy it from? As im keen om doing up my leather seats just like in this video... cheers!
I read that if you get a scratch on this it will start to peel like plastidip. What type of use do these seats see and have you had any similar experiences?
did u read the infor or listen to other videos of there because they always tell u they get there paint from vg auto paint all the time
From all the video's i have seen. this made A the most sence.. B your result it self is amazing C Good to follow as a guideline . D i thank you (y)
what if the leather has deep dirt and grim and lots of scratches? and also my leather is more of a drier/matte finish than this leather can i use the same product? i have a ford f150 king Ranch truck with brown leather seats
Awesome video. Can we apply on jacket also?
For the custom color in cans, go to VG Auto Paints in Giraween they will sort you out!
They should also be able to sort out the code for you too.
How long do you think the colour will last with daily use and driving?
How much did the colour change cost all up?
What kind of shops would do this kind of work? I have pewter gray leather seats and would be really interested in having it done by someone like you.
thanks mate really appreciate this tutorial. I want to change my FD RX-7 interior from black to red. Do you have any videos on fixing interior parts and repainting plastics to suit?
Hi and great video.. I have a BMW 330 2006 and I am interested in changing the color from black to brown can you tell me what can I do and where I can purchase everything thank you again
I need to paint my fake Mercedes leather from grey to black , what should I do , what and were do I buy ? thnx again .
Great to hear the Aussie accent! Thanks for the great video and info. I see I can buy it in Wodonga. Can I use this product on a vinyl dash board and window pillars? It is not possible to spray them, so I am presuming I would apply several coats with a cloth without removing the dash (huge job to remove it)? What can you suggest?
Assuming the seats are a really nice leather to begin with, do they still feel great after using this product? I have a small spot I'd like to repair using this product, but am hesitant to use it over a large area. Thanks :)
I have a BMW X5 with a tan leather interior, but I hate the tan leather so I bought a black leather interior from a wrecked car. I recently saw a new BMW 3 series Individual with black interior throughout but it had red seats and red door insert within the black panels itself and fell in love. Do you have a link to the exact kit you used in a complete package?
how well does this work if changing from a non black/white colour to another? will the original colour seep through?
Dave-
How about a 6 month and 1 year follow-up on how the dye is holding up? Any show-through of the original black in the seams or creases? Any red transfer onto your clothing?
How about a 10 year update lol
Beautiful work and end finish. Could have done this on my black seats, the question is, how long does this last? Will this stain your clothes if damp? Sweating, heat etc.?
would you recommend applying more layers in the high wear areas such as bolsters ?
Hi; great job
Will this last on a motorcycle seat with the rain etc
should I put fans on the seats if it's really hot out during the curing process? It's like 95 degrees here. I've never worked with dye before
What about using leather conditioner would it still soak into the leather and keep it smooth and crack free
Do you need to use the spray? Can you just paint it on like a brush or rag until the coat is done?
This is really interesting, and I am sure there's many times where this is the way to go. But in some cases couldn't you just restitch/sew new leather in less time?
No, unless you are a professional it won't look as nice, it also is hard to perfectly fit and everything
Professional repair is way more expensive and sometimes you can't buy new leather in matching color.
bs , unsitch your seat and buy leather and cut out the same pattern and lightly trace over the titch lines
ThreeDaysOfDan Sometimes there are dual stitches (I don't know how they are called in english) and in this case you can't stitch back the material. Also if you are buying real leather you can't just buy a fev inches. You often have to buy lots of material just for a small repair.
Uzurpat0r you can buy small patches , they are called leather strips
I find it baffling no one is questioning how long this would last.... Especially on color changes. I want to believe it but my better judgement tells me this is surface layer only and most layers tend to peel wear through much easier than factory dyed leather
I think you might be right. I wouldn't do a color change but I think that respraying old leather is a good idea.
5-10 years as long as you maintain it with the oil/cleaner every 6 months or so. Considering the cost of the product on its own, it's not a big cost for the result. I just got the product in and will be doing it in the up and coming weeks. I saw some results from 5 years ago, still look mint.
its dye it will last longer then the car if you maintain it right
the same way it was dyed black it was dyed red
I bought a steering wheel that was dyed from pink to gray and it has yet to wear out and I don't even take care of it. I've had around ten years or so.
This was actually my very first thought too! The results are pretty good, it appears, I'm just curious as to if it will last.
The chair in the thumbnail looked like a depressed deadpool.
That is all.
thanks very much for getting back to me, very appreciated, thankyou!
I have 2 cream colored sofas, stuffed with down, I'd like to change it to light brown, it's not pulled tight like a car seat, more like a pillow, 3 cushions on each, I understand the lengthy process, can you give me an idea of how many packages/kits it will take? Thanks
Hello, great video. I want to paint my car seats. got a set of katzkin car covers cheap but in black and my interior is tan. Can i make this work? please let me know
What if I want to do the whole interior. It's an e46 m3 but the interior is all grey
I dyed my seats in my e46 m3 in nebula red from black should be fine but be careful a lot of money If u fuck it up
+Scankygames of course its a lot of money if he fucks it up.
lmfao!
alvaro hernandez how much did it cost ?
Don't just don't! It's not worth it
Ik it’s been 2 years but if you’re still thinking about it I did my e39 m5 and honestly it’s pretty damn hard to fuck up. Not to hard and no reason not to.
what about colour changing fabric or velour seats? can it be done in a similar manner?
This is very time consuming. Looks great don't get me wrong, but nah. In very hot weather is there a chance the color could bleed on clothing?
What do you guys think is better to change leather color a spray can or by hand application?
Is it possible to go from brown to a bright medium gray without any of the brown showing through and how does one prevent streaking and a brownish overall look?
IAMGiftbearer lots of light coats.
Hey I bought a used BMW and the seats where leather but they where spray painted by the previous owners what should I use to fix them
any suggestions on doing just parts of the car seat not the whole car seat?
10 yearrs later... can you attest to how it held up after finished?
is it possible to make a black leather jacket brown using this?
that escalated quickly and was unexpectedly good!!!
how about cloth seats though...lol anything i can do with them?
So do I skip the scuffing part if I am just restoring the same color with the factory color match dye from leatherique?
I would think this is ok for repairs but to completely change colour would just not look great or wear very well. The stitching looks kinda weird like this and how do you coat those hard to get to areas between seems etc.
So no primer or clear coat is required?
This is awesome! I've got some ugly blue leather seats which I think would be ideal to turn red. Is there no need to treat the seats after the final dye coat? Just let it cure for about a week and then it'll be stuck on and won't smear into my clothes? Also is there anh preferred temperature range to let this cure?
Perfect seat shape! I want them! Don't know what looks better though...the red or the black with yellow inserts! I k ow it was tape but the yellow looked hot! Haha
I'm pretty sure you can order those seats in red...
yea. most likly
Robert Vanocker but would you order the same exact seats you have just in a diffrent color?
And pay through the nose.
Yea for a lot more money
$700 probably the lowest
Hey, how can I change my dashboard color from black to peanut butter ??Thanks!
I want to believe that the this stuff last long time but I work with upholstery myself I do all that sorts of upholstery repair and so on and so forth so that product that you put on there should have like a light coat of what they like to call vinyl finish you can get leather vinyl finish that helps keep the coat on there more but overall anywhere where high traffic areas where you sit or put your arms I know that products tend to fade in a short amount of time
Hey, nice video overall, great presentation, the results were fair and I am sure will help someone save some money. I give it a thumbs up as I am all about saving money and getting the rubber back on the road..............
Wow that was an amazing result
hi i love the vid thank you for the information i can finally change my couch set coor
but you never specified the amount of coats needed with a spray gun
Gorgeous paint job
Awesome work Dave!
Thanks but where are you getting that incorrect information from?
how much did all this cost? just the dies and othere stuff not the seats
I have a question my black leather for my car just needs to be repainted what do you think I should get and do?
I have an 05 Mustang GT convertible, with black leather seats. The outer part of the front seats and the middle section of the back seats, may be vinyl. Will this product work? I'd like to do a ruby red.
hello! I love this video.
can you tell me the exact type of spray gun you used? Or do you have any recommendations and/or ones that are not too expensive for home use?
the gun i used is available from VG Auto Paints ebay store. Iwata mini gun
Could this all work on a lightweight leather trench coat perhaps???
That's a lot of endurance and patience xD
Hey mate, how much does it cost and how long was the labor from removing the seats to painting it and putting it back on? cheers
if I paint my seats will the paint cone off when I want clean the seats?
Can you change black to white or cream
I am about to do color change from Grey to dark red, using the same Leatherique products as shown on the video. I have one leather piece with a few cracks. SHould I use the crack filling technique first and then the same steps (including sanding) as for dying the seats?
+Georgi Georgiev I'm planning to do the same on my BMW. How did you go?
hello its 2016 came across ur video great vid btw. wanted to know if there is any dye for cloth because i want to go wit red for my door panels and they have cloth and its gray i want them Red ?
i cannot believe those used to be black.
They will again be black in 6 months
My life is a lie
@@gplusgplus2286 that would be the case only if he didn't prep the leather before painting
Can i use those leatherique just to clean my seats? i dont want to paint them, there is no reason to paint them, as long as theyre still okay and comfy painting them wont be necessary
does it get on ur cloths after awhile
Bought a bentley from the auction with red painted seats and they are pealing. Whats the best way to remove the red paint or can i just spray this over it?
Gemballa GT Try sanding the seats then re coating.
Can you do special designs with the dies?
Old video i know but i just watched the video, interested in knowing if they lasted? and how long. Had heaps of people tell me not to do it, because it wont last very long. cheers for the vids!
#customspraymods
How many coats i need to make my seats go from grey to red and does it last? Or will it peal off. Also i have heated seats so will this be a problem?
like he said, 4-6 coats. it does not peel, and im not 100% sure, but if you leave your seats out of the car to cure for about a week before using the heated seat feature, im sure you'll be fine
Do you have a color code for the color you used I want to use the same one
This is a great and very helpful video! Thank you!
You have any ideas for repairing vinyl in a 2014 Toyota Camry seats
Just wondering, how can you tell if you have real or fake leather? Or how to tell what material are your seats made of?
How long does color hold up on the leather
from ehwere should i buy the colouring set?please send me the link.i am from india
¿Que producto es? ¿Dónde se consigue?
