As others said, you get good at it through practice (especially if your living depends on it) but the anxiety of standing in front of a crowd never goes away. Some never return to it after landing TV/movie jobs...

It’s true, I say this during every murder documentary. Nobody ever says “ to be honest Jim was a nosy, busybody, dogooding twat, nobody liked him. We really weren’t that bothered when we heard he was dead” It’s just convinced me that people lie when they are Interviewed for these things.
Having been interviewed for one of these soundbites, I realise they always ask at the court case, or at the funeral. So there is considerable selection bias, it's not exactly a scientific poll.
In Spain, everytime a killer or terrorist or the like is catched by the police, the neighbours answer to the reporters with "I'm surprised, he used to greet everyone on the stairlandings..."
I have never seen Diane stand-up before, but it was great! She admitted later she hated it though and wanted to do comic acting, at which she is great.
My favourite bit that really made me laugh is when she says "when someone dies they say he's gone to a better place. He must have had a pretty awful life if you think that six feet underground is a better place!" That really made me chuckle 😂

My dad had a friend he worked with. The guy died in a work accident, my dad went to his house to give condolences to the guy's family. The guy's wife told my dad he shouldn't have come because as soon as the guy died their lives became better. Apparently the guy was a big time asshole to his own family and the wife had no qualms telling everyone at the funeral.

The positive thinking bit resonated with me just a tad. When still a teenager back in about 1983 or thereabouts, I had a mishap on my bicycle whilst travelling down a steep hill at great speed. I was launched into the air over the handlebars as my bike crumpled beneath me. To this day over 40 years later I can still remember vividly being in the air for several seconds thinking to myself "Thank fxxk there's no traffic coming up the hill.." and then "but this is probably going to hurt a lot..." As it happens... I ended up avoiding hospital treatment. Was just badly grazed in a few places. To the bone on my elbow. But it healed fine with chemist bought products. We were proper 'ard back then I tell you. lol Mind, it DID help that the first car up the hill as I came to a final halt at least 50 feet away my now wrecked bike, and about 30 feet from my spectacles which had departed my face on impact with the road luckily, was being driven by a doctor.. Who after watching me leap to my feet cursing loudly at my stupid bike, informed me that in his professional opinion I was fine to walk home and treat my wounds with bandages and savlon etc. (I lived 5 minutes walk away. 50 yards from the nearest chemist luckily lol)
