My 5-r is very tough. It fell off my body and landed 10' away on a concrete loading dock. Floor. Fearing the worst. I picked it off the floor. Turned it on. totally un flapped by the fall. Power on. That is one tough puppy. that keeps on barking.

    Its called
    Family
    Radio
Service. ..... you do realize you can also use the MURS frequencies as well. As long as you keep your radio at 2 Watts you should be fine but if the shitt were to hit the fan I guess it wouldn't matter how much power you used.....

Suggest a family license for GMRS (there are even GMRS repeaters), but also study a week or so for a Ham Technican license ( good to do now while isolated; short multiple choice test free in many places when we open for business again) and really put those radios to fun use. 1/17 Air Cav alum :)

Mine is brand new and has all the channels unlocked. I never understood the talk about chanels being blocked bc it hasn't happened to me

Yup UV5R is such a value . Ham , gmrs , frs , marine vhf. What ever frequency that is on the radio you can transmit on And all for 22$

For family communication should it be programmed on channel mode or frequency mode?
Could you make a video on how to program it for family communication (walkie talkie)?
    Thank you

Hi Juliette, that's a great question and one of the problems I ran in to also. I'll planned to do a video on it but got behind in some other things. Hopefully next week.

On hold zero for volts in decimals, fakes just beep/cancel...from off to on hold 3 or 6 for the serial number or firmware version...PTT an number keys transmit TONES for repeater starting.alarm transmits or not while hearing it or volume down silent.

Thanks David, this reminds me that I do need the follow up video.

@@cavtroopermunoz the button key options display,is not well known,an made the radio kooler.i am spreading the word to all good hams, via good video, comments...I bought 2 HTS online an tested new site online China..baofeng uv5rc. (c) is for comersial FCC part 90 approved..that will cheer them up..it has less frequency ability, the only baofeng that's probably grms an family radio allowed,,so I asked Josh " Crash Course Ham Radio" to check FOR spacious transmitions on the 2nd an 3rd harmonic of the Rx propogated radiation.. to build a SATCOM just have bothe (2) vertical an horizontal antenna joined,an point all four elements to the horizon making up transmitions 180 degrees apart..so you don't have to pan your antenna..simple really..the side sent Rx off the antenna wire goes more than off the tip,so like 2 sideways diolpole together ..like if you hold walkie talkie sideways or up ways the other walkie will have to point sideways to receive sidways sent signal. But for space the ISS moves curved to our position on ground..so both vertical an horizontal is needed or you have to line up and also rotate..hope this is good info ,I'm one year old,in ham years,an find amatures are sometime advanced over army in antenna an but only for VHF UHF.not gigahertz..yet .one more look up fox hole radio...radio made withe razor with soot and pin for the diode etc but mostly ...credit card chip crystal radio..no battery for FM receive.old school..thank you, yes indeedeeHAM radio, my2cents, out.

the box on the left has the FCC number, the one on the right doesnt. Open the battery compartment and see if there is a FCC sticker. I bet one doesnt.

RE, Stefan Williams..yes baofeng I can tell yaz the best strength tests I've seen..for BAOFENG uv5r.(uv5riii triband)dropped off 2 meter to concrete twice on purpose an fine nothing but a scratch(don't risk it tho) dragged behind 4x4 over 200 meters of gravel an the had 5cm grass inside keys, pulled out, antenna is only weak part look after the join especially..house fire melted screen ok an switch ok only an still worked, under water in bucket for 35 minutes while speaker drowns then radio cuts out,an you just dry it an it goes, what else ...placed under car wheel an driven on slowly an resting in baofeng for 1 minute an all good, best is transmitting for 10 minutes constantly an didn't overheat watts only dropped 0.2 watts temporarily while hearing up on long use transmit PTT held down. Better transmit without antenna an despite my previous consern over the issue the radio does Not be affected of overload font end narp. So they feed 5watt signal directly into the radio ( no antenna) 30 seconds an it only damaged the transmitter by reducing the max watts from 5 watts down to 4.8 watts perminantly, not really a bother for watts reduced LV but maybe a slight strain an life reduced for heavy users( maybe only),I nearly forgot weather extremes, well for temperature ,hot weather is taxing the watts because any electronics heat up less power an flow in circuits, keep them out of direct sunlight for operating and plastic going brittle, cold was tested..in Siberia Russia video..cold can stop them working properly...warm up under arm...you could keep in freezer but thaw out.probably the battery is what doing it.could try freezing a baofeng not battery.an plug room temp battery onto frozen baofeng jus an idea..if you wire two uv5r together audio to mic an mic to audio (head set slot) well one can receive 440 an directly key up other HT an send on 450mhz etc yes aportable repeater of 5watts for cheap .new radio can crossband repeat in one unit.me found radio Videos help me learn when I was down a bit,and couldn't believe these HTS dial all frequency's.always wanted since a child I was an couldn't buy a 150 nzd one..so inspiring ,I like knowing how to build antenna.look up" tree antenna" 1960z army trial .the antenna wire goes around the tree like a spring looping vertical an going horizontal around tree,an ground goes on tree base under loops or into a ground steak (mmm) in by the tree base roots..thanks again.out.

Tree antenna makes the radiating energy emit from the top of tree, all the tree branches, yes I wonder if they mind or feel thickly.lol so army developed this antenna for being in Forrest at ground level where signals don't go past trees so it can be sent long range without climbing or much equipment, I don't know what the sent polarisation would project like.i want to seen the waves pattern. An or make one an test .the tree takes on the frequency am emit it ..wow. Old forgotten experiment I'm happy to have seen last year an shared this with you HAMs an viewers .out.
