    FYI... If you have a Tundra with the cutting power issue (and Taco may be the same), go into park > Hold the Trac button for 3 seconds till it beeps > Hold again for 3 seconds till it beeps again. One turns off the trac control and the other turns off the VSC (variable speed control). All nannies off!!

      @@runnerdude1990 I've tried disabling traction control probably 50 different ways, if you get the wheels speed too high it throttle cuts. I did some mild wheeling in my Frontier a few months back in Montana. Up in the mountains I came through a pretty average mud rut, maybe 1 or 2ft deep. Something I should have just sailed through with a little bit of extra gas. I couldn't believe it when I sunk into it and my RPM just dropped to the floor as I applied throttle, and got none of the wheel spin I wanted. I thought my engine had died, I looked at the tach and saw it was still running. Reached down and turned off the traction control ("VDC" in Nissan speak), hit the throttle and was right out of it.
      This was my first time wheeling a vehicle with any sort of electronic throttle traction aid. I couldn't believe how counter productive it was. I LOST traction thanks to that feature.

There’s basically no such thing as limping your vehicle home. One hiccup and you’re in a parking lot with a no start because some idiot engineer thought it would be better to save the starter by disabling cranking even though the battery has plenty of jam to get the engine going. But oh no, the starter might get damaged at 10 volts. Meanwhile it has 400CCA left. It’s like vehicles are built around the recovery industry.

    I am an Arab ( why i said i am an arab definitely because almost our life in desert ) and I live in the Middle East. The first thing that gets stuck in the sand, you must empty the tire, but with a limited amount. If you do not have a watch. You can press a tube for 30 seconds. After that you will find that the wheel is starting to lay the bedding, it will be easy to get out of the sand. Who gets stuck on the mud, tie his knot of ropes to the wheel. Do not make it spin, it must have something on the wheel so that it does not slide. Here is some information that we know and that we are always facing in its desert nature

      Jonathan Anderson Even in that mode the nannies still take over. I have a 2019 Off Road. The nannies are NEVER completely off, there’s absolutely no way to turn it off....period. The mode you described will shut the nannies down most of the way but if you get any kind of excessive wheel spin it’ll kick right back in and cut power. I read that people were destroying rear diffs left and right so Toyota implemented this to stop that. Unfortunately it makes the truck unusable in sand like in the video, it is otherwise a very solid truck even in some moderate/heavy off roading.

    The infamous Toyota Auto LSD. When the computer senses wheel spin, it automatically engages the brake on the fastest spinning tire and reduces power to 40% or so.
    It's great for terrain that you're not sinking into, not so good when you need wheel spin and speed as a component for not getting stuck.
    Disable it and the truck runs through the dunes great, it works especially well if you're not in low range.

    • @jbw5485
      @jbw5485 4 роки тому +3

      I thought all the bullshit computer nanny shit went away when in 4x4 low? Or at least you can shut it off with traction buttons?

    • @Skinflaps_Meatslapper
      @Skinflaps_Meatslapper 4 роки тому +31

      @@jbw5485 It's actually more aggressive when you're slow to help with traction, because it's harder to keep tires from spinning when low gear is multiplying torque. Toyota uses the brake system to emulate a limited slip differential (LSD, it's not drugs for your truck lol). When active, it actually works fairly well on more solid terrain where wheel spin is not beneficial, but it can be disabled with the push of a button (it's always on until you disable it) for when you need that wheel speed and no power restriction to slow you down. However, some of the other nanny features of the Toyotas are disabled when in 4LOW, such as VSC. Of course, they change this crap so often and it's not the same all across the board on all their vehicles, so I can't tell you for sure between 3rd and 4th gen tacos and 4th gen 4Runners, or even with open or locked diff models, what exactly is going on.
      Ideally, in sand like this you want it in 4HI and disable LSD/VSC so nothing is screwing with you and you have all the wheel and vehicle speed you can get. Nothing sucks more than bouncing the rev limiter in low range and needing just a little more speed for the hill you're trying to climb. I put a switch in mine that shuts power off to the yaw sensor (a MEMS gyro, basically) , which signals the computer to revert to a failsafe mode and disables ALL of that crap (including ABS). It's used mostly for sand and desert running, and it's the only way to really dig into a turn and let the rear slide some under power. A word of caution, however....once you shut power to the yaw sensor, it's disabled completely until you restart the truck. You can't flip the switch back, send power to the sensor, and expect your ABS to start working again, it's programmed to only restart after a power cycle. The reason the yaw sensor shuts it all down is because the ABS, VSC, and LSD all work from a dedicated module that relies on that yaw sensor to sense vehicle movement for stability corrections. They're all interconnected and rely on that module to work. The sensor needs to be stationary to calibrate itself, which is why you can't turn it back on while driving...if it's not calibrated right, it might think you're in a tight turn when you're not and apply correcting brakes when you change lanes.
      Really, Toyota needs to have a switch labeled FUN that can disable all that stuff on the fly and kick it back on at will, with a self calibrating gyro/accelerometer package. Having to learn all this crap just to make my vehicle function in the desert just pisses me off.

First time in the sand I was hauling a$$ on the flats and came up on some mild woops. When I tried to apply the brakes, the anti lock break system kicked in and I sailed into the woops at almost full speed. I hit them going way too fast and it was like riding a bucking bronco for a moment. The only way to disengage the ABS was to lock the rear diff, I later found out but that limits the speed to 30mph. I've never been more mad at computers. Not being able to stop in the sand is less than desirable. I also found out later there's a fuse for the ABS and if you remove it that problem disappears.
