    Hey Rob, have u thought about grinding the side of the leaf spring up front, along the side of it. U can keep the same thickness of spring, but make it have less force against the control arm without making it weak. Could be a easy option to make it the correct ride height, also quick and cheap for stock springs u can modify for whatever engine your using. I love your channel and watching you show us real time builds. You have been the main influence on me starting my hot rod and trying to film it for UA-cam. I have lost some footage of the build this week, but hope to get someone to film for me and keep updates. Thank u, and look forward to Future videos.

  • @markhutchinson3367
    @markhutchinson3367 5 років тому +3

    As a person that worked at a turbocharger manufacturer for 8 years, that turbine housing you put on with the larger gap will definitely have a large affect on spool. For the highest efficiency, you want the face clearance of the turbine wheel to contour of the turbine housing to be around .020" to .030" total gap. You can measure with pin gages or feeler gauges to see the gap between the blade of the turbine wheel to the housing, it should be around .010" to .015" (which is the previously mentioned .020" to .030" total clearance, divided by 2 since you're only checking one side of the housing). I can see just by eyeballing it from your video that your size is far out of the range of tolerance. You're probably looking at .050" per side gap (.100" total) if not more, which will make that turbo spool at least 1000 rpm later or more and also affect peak hp/tq. It seems that the new housing you bought is the wrong trim size for the turbine wheel you have.

    • @RobDahm
      @RobDahm  5 років тому +1

      Appreciate the feedback. First thing I noticed. But I don’t have experience like that. I’ll message ATP about it.

    • @markhutchinson3367
      @markhutchinson3367 5 років тому

      @@RobDahm No worries! It is a risk when you mix different manufacturer housings, seen it many times over the years. Each manufacturer has their own tolerances, Garrett is toward the tighter side, tighter the better (that's what he said) as the efficiency is at it's greatest. Your situation looks more like perhaps ATP shipped you the wrong trim size for the turbine wheel size though. Hopefully they can get it sorted for you. You may have to ship the turbo to them so they can properly match the housing trim size and may need to do some machining to get it just right. Looking forward to seeing the car done!

    I realize that we're talking about apples and oranges, but I have a Garrett GT3582R dual ball bearing turbo on my built LSVTEC in my EJ8 Civic coupe and I just made 588 whp on 22 psi. I know how much air the rotary pushes out, so you can spool a 1.06 AR housing turbo much quicker than I can with my piston engine, but that should be an awesome turbo for the 13B and make some crazy numbers. I have to say that I have NEVER seen this attempted, or even thought about, so I am pumped to see what the outcome is and how well this combo responds in this chassis.

    That turbo looks tiny next to those other monsters, but it's still pretty big compared to most of what's out there lol

    Won't be much but the two gaskets between the block and the turbo should get you a few extra mm to help clear the intake....well hopefully.

    You DEF used the OLD V-Band hot side Bolts, back on the new T-4 Hotside turbo housing LOL come on Dahm.... I mean we wouldn't expect anything less from you.

    Don't forget to swap out the vette's 3.42 ring and pinion to a 4.11 so the Rotary and clutch works like it should.

    I’m not dogging on rotary because it’s nature of the beast. (And I love them)
    But that Chevy v8 will run with way less care for way longer.
    But gotta love that 1.3 liters can create more power n torque with the new generation on turbos.

    Can you get a hold of those rotors that move Pocket off to side of the rotor? Instead of in the middle? Also, any plans on porting?

    As a ford guy and an appreciation for rotary engines. I love this. Now these ls guys can be upset lmao. I thought of ford swapping into a a Chevy, but rotary. Hot damn. Let the fires be fueled.

    Did you say the T4 turbine housing had a smaller AR? Having a gap around the turbine could help with reducing back pressure at higher flow rates, kinda like the old school back cutting technique with stock/hybrid turbines

    Hey Rob, to keep the contest fair you should have built a NA 13b but with a peripheral. I think it wouldve made the same ammount of power but at higher rpm. Nevertheless keep it up cause its awesome. Thanks for being the voice that makes justice to all the molested ls swapped 7's !

You have the Merican sports car ppl, then you have the Doritos loving, exhaust smokin, Brapp-Brapp-Brappin ppl. You's a freekin genius bro!! Keep up the hard work and I'll be here until the end of this build!
    Just so you know I am a fan of both aspects of the build. No discrimination here bro!! 😎🤑💣🍻

    Rob probably won't see this and more than likely no one's noticed but the center of that spooly boi @6:26 is the shape of a rotor, so in conclusion there's a rotor powering that ying yang spinny thang on a brappy dorito boi.

    To fix the weight distribution you should put a fuel cell in the front. Or maybe that could be a fire hazard? Idk just an idea
