it will be interesting to see you react to this amazing story. My "reading" of the funeral scene is that she was not surprised by Himmel's mortality, but by her own reaction to it. She expected to be sad, but not heartbroken. I think she is surprised by the fact that the death of someone she knew for what an elf sees as too short a time to get atached could affect her so much. I think she is not wondering what her feelings are, but why she is feeling them for this specific person and/or period of her life. Why was Himmel so important to her ? And why didn't she realize it sooner ?
I dont think its quite that. I think she was knew logically that human lives were short, but she has been so out of touch and been dissociating from normal lives for so long that she had really forgotten just how short they are, and how precious the connections made over short times can be.
In case you didn’t know, you might recognise this show’s director, Saitou Keiichirou (斎藤圭一郎), from his previous work, a little known show called Bocchi The Rock you may or may not have heard of.
@@eurobradyanother thing, i heard you were watching Violet Evergarden? (I just started watching the video, so dont know if you know this already) but the composer of Violet Evergarden also made the OST for Frieren, the composer is one of my fav anime composers atm. And Violet Evergarden is my fav anime of all time... dont know if frieren will end up snatching that spot yet though.
Japanese anime usually use "music list method" which using pre-composed music for BGM because of cost matter. But Frieren's first 4 episodes uses film scoring, which compose for each scene.
Greetings from Japan :) I reached to your channel after watching some overseas reaction movies. I like your opinion about the character’s feelings. I didn’t have a perspective like you. I’m looking forward to your reaction from Ep 2 onward.
i'm a simple guy, i see handsome man, i click... oh a frieren reaction noice green flag, he's also what? a narrative therapist? and has a dedicated eye cam coz those are indeed gorgeous and needs to be showcased properly hm hm subscribed. 😍
I'd like to put in a vote to analyze SpyxFamily if you haven't. I'd love your take on how the characters both crave and deny connection and love. It's really a show about the comedy of requiring pretense or plausible deniability to experience warm and acceptance
Where can I watch your analysis on Chainsaw Man? I love what you’re doing with your videos and I’ve been meaning to see a psychological analysis of Chainsaw Man. Keep up the great work! - a new fan and subscriber who just found your channel today
Hey there! Unfortunately Chainsaw Man did not end up making it on to UA-cam since I've moved on from anime analysis. It just became too cumbersome to get things onto UA-cam so it had to be hosted elsewhere. The reaction series is on the video archive through patreon though if you're interested in checking it out, along with all of the other shows we watched. I can also recommend my friend and colleague Psyculturists, who is still making psychological analysis on anime content and I believe he reviewed Chainsaw Man as well.
~~I'm still waiting on that Iron Blooded Orphans stream!~~ jkjk, all in good time. I've really enjoyed Frieren as well. Been a while since a show gave me mortality salience issues, but this one did. It was hard to watch, but in a good way.
Unfortunately yes, I've stopped doing anime reactions. I may return to analyzing the characters or something like that at some point but 14 was the last Frieren episode we watched.
its interesting to listen to your comentary but i feel like simply leaving the silence in doesnt leave a good watching/listening experience, i would love to see your content edited down to moments whereyou are speaking or just in general notable moments
Whoever did the translations for his copy of the show didn't do the show justice. You can see where they slipped into their own daily speak. It takes me out of the immersion. I'm glad the version I'm watching on crunchy roll is better.
Yeah unfortunately that whole section got flagged for copyright for some reason so I had to completely mute it. I might have had a comment or two but nothing too important.
Brady, you should dig into Suzume(2022 すずめの戸締り:Suzume's door closing). The movie's theme contains psychological mechanism of "closing chapter" which also Frieren's theme does. Original name of Frieren is 葬送のフリーレン(Frieren the Funereal or Frieren the Mourn). I think your cognitive psychology works well to both pieces.
Oh thanks for the recommendation! That sounds right up my alley and I have been wanting to cover more films on the channel sometime soon. I'll definitely keep this one in mind!
Yeah, I can see that. A great example of why I also think that this should be taken into consideration would be stuff like; Mushoku Tensei's opening songs where it's very in tune with the overall vibes of the series, and on some episodes they even integrate it with the scenes itself.
I was interested in your comentary. But having the video mostly muted is really not interesting. If you are going to mute the stuff, at least cut the parts where you are not going to comment.

Woah I had no idea! I love his sense of humor and creativity and can totally see those themes in Frieren so far.

Atleast maybe these comments will be good for engagement metrics. :P

Himmel was 16 when they started their journey, 26 when they defeated the demon king and was celebrated for it, 76 when he died.
thank you, any information on Heiter's age?
And Eisen while your at it-
@@josuevargas1952 Heiter was about 80 when Himmel died, so he was about 104 when he died.
@@josuevargas1952 his age has not been hinted at, the only thing we know, is that he's getting up there.
if humans can take a long time to grieve, how much longer will an elf take.
That's what's incredible about this show to me, it will be very interesting to see this subject explored that way.
This will be the show of the season.

I just learned of Frieren a few days ago, so I'm going to watch your videos after I finish it

"Where does the value come from"
So Made in Abyss it is.
Loved the video, just wanna call out the sazabi and your other gunpla in the back. Super sick 👊
Sad to have missed the stream, but I’m glad you’re back! Congratulations on your exam!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I found this anime because of Yoasobi's MV pop out of my recommendation, and yeah so far I enjoy this show.
Hell yeah, bout time a therapist watched this show.
Thought this would great show for Brady to react to and seems like chat though so too
It's a beautiful show so far 😍
Frieren met Fern 20 years after Himmel died, Fern was 9, born 61 years after the demon king's defeat.

damn, that was a lot that got muted by the end. that patreon thing might be a good idea lol
Yeah it's always a struggle. I'm working on setting the patreon up soon here for those who want the best viewing experience.
just a shower thought, if a country is doing "narrative therapy", is that basically "history revisionism"

Mr. Brady, i cannot believe we are watching this it, holy...
Ugh I would have loved to see your analysis of chainsaw man 😫 Sucks that twitch didn’t keep it
It will still come to UA-cam soon enough :)
If you like psychological shows, onvious recommendations are Serial Experiments Lain and Psycho Pass (though, that's gorey).
this is a very strange translation for the subs in the version you are watching.
Goodness, I'd so love to see ya thoughts on something like mob psycho 100.

Talking about grief:
Watch A Place further than the Universe
Heiter is 3 or 4 years older than Himmel.
will be more Frieren videos? was 14 the last?

is it just me or,the video is muted starting around 49:55 right till the end? I,saw Brady moving his mouth a few time but no sound.

The OP is good but the complain people have is that it doesn't fit the series and I kinda agree with that
I have that opinion, but the song grew on me....

That's because people don't understand that the OP isn't about Freiren. The OP is called Yusha and its about Himmel.
