Matilda and Niles are my favorite couple this season. Hope they resolve their issues. I loved the proposal at the museum. It's hard to see people proposing in public in Ghana.
I actually think miles is extra careless to play with Matilda emotions like that. Didn’t tell her firmly not to plan the wedding before he came, proposed to her and make it so sweet to keep her hopes high. It’s cruel when he blindside her with the bad news at the peak of her happiness. It’s so uncalled for and could have been avoided if he’s not so wishy washy about it. Dont propose if you don’t wanan get married soon , or make it clear. He’s horrible. 😑
@Melicia, in African culture, you are raised to live and die by public perception. The level of humiliation she will experience, especially because she’s been bragging about how her life and her family’s life will be improving soon. It is hard to believe how hard it could be because Americans have more anonymity, through the culture of America and the different societal norms. Having lived in both, I am thankful to have grown up in the U.S. because living in West Africa would have stifled me.

In more traditional cultures, the idea of shame transcends the individual & extends to the family. Matilda's reaction is understandable. It's not just her being embarrassed, it's her family too. Nile means well, obviously, but still, the damage has been done. And if for some reason they part ways, it can even affect her future prospects & her bride price.
Matilda nd Niles they are really in love its only Niles did not know whats in stock with an African wedding and having to pay lobola the bill become too high for him. I think they just meant she's irritable I'm like that I get angry a lot but I don't yell, fight or any of that stuff I just get away from people till I'm ohk
Is so understandable why Matilda is upset. In her culture, people wait 1-2 years to get married after being engaged. They’ve been engaged for 5 months so far and she told everyone in her family. Of course they would start planing for the wedding. I feel like Niles did her dirty by not communicating this with her from the beginning. They could have had a mutual agreement for the wedding date. Niles is already aware of certain cultural differences between them and I’m sure she didn’t tell him about the wedding plans only when he was telling her that he was coming to visit her in Ghana 🤔
I think they are both in the wrong. Niles obviously has his reservations about jumping into marriage with someone he hasn't really spent time with or knows very well, and Maltilda is desperate to get married and has probably bragged abut it to family and friends. Niles should have been very clear once they were getting serious and insisted on them getting to know each other better. Long distance relationship is hard work especially if there are cultural differences. They both need time to know and understand each other to a certain degree of comfort before jumping into marriage. As someone who has been in maltida's shoes before, my now husband insisted we spent time together before tying the knot even after dating for 2 1/2 years long distance. Even after getting married and relocating to be with Him, there was a lot we both had to learn and unlearn about ourselves since we were now living together as a couple. Maltida needs to calm down and not let desperation influence rational thinking, Niles needs to learn to speak up, be confident and stand by his words.
This all stems from Niles proposing. A proposal is an agreement to get married. If he was not ready he should have not done it… twice. They spoke for months and he clearly never put his foot down. Once someone proposes marriage to you it’s not unusual to plan a wedding. It’s the natural next step. Matilda is not in the wrong and doesn’t need to relax. Some people in the west are just more lax and do not take commitment seriously. They treat a proposal like a a rain check. You’re supposed decide whether or not you want to spend your life with someone before the proposal. He should have never done it before meeting her.
i can understand matilda, my bf promised marraige with some time line and when my family met with his to discuss they kept postponing i lost it, i went into depression

What people don't get is that in African countries and the east in general, people date for marriage and you shouldn't date for more that 2years. Marriage is taken very seriously and divorce is a taboo. Also Matilda has been prepped to be a good wife and Nile's life will improve.

But if she considers him a brother then she should have told Sunny she's travelling with him for support. Matilda is organizinh a wedding before she's even met Niles? As well, she should have made sure his family was onboard. He is travelling alone. It is important someone from his side be there beside him for support. Just FYI
If your ex is important to you, you need to make sure you pick a partner who can understand that. If your biggest support is your ex boyfriend, it doesn’t make sense to get involved with some who is jealous/insecure.
Im shocked Sunny didnt say call Rory then tell Rory a grown woman who can't travel, hides an ex,clearly didnt even care how rory is doing all day but hides him afrer using him to travel..sunny should say she's better suited for his patience

Yea, Matilda is not the scary boisterous African woman viewers probably expected. She has been the most real and genuinely romantic of this season (aside from Faith).
I like them both so far but what Niles did to Matilda is a big deal culturally. She will be the talk of the town. He should have made it clear that they weren't getting married before he went to Ghana.
If you don't come from a culture like ours, you wouldn't understand. Postponing a wedding is a no-no. People will definitely talk and laugh.

Just cause she is a girl , don’t put blame on Sunny .
Out of all the people in the country, she had to bring her ex? Really?!! That's B.S.
I completely understand her reaction I’d be absolutely humiliated. He should’ve told her from the start. She made the right decision to calm down first
He should've never proposed over the phone
I’m so proud of Sunny’s emotional intelligence 😭 stood on business 😫😮💨😮💨

Exactly. Gross
Exactly, with her lil "whatever" face, when sunny left the hotel. Nah, sunny handled things well, those two are diabolical, cult level behaviour
In Ghana there are some ex you never had sex with and he became a friend even after dating for years. I had an ex that is a friend. We never had sex . But in western culture ex means no no to come over to your place due to many have crossed the line with an ex and cheated with behind their current partner. So I understand. The question did she and her ex ever had it? Then it’s a no no to keep him in the picture. Specially when dating a western man.

There's absolutely no justification for what Veah did. Period!
Vea is nuts calling him jealous. Smh grow up girl
So she's more worried about how her family and relatives will react but she didn't even care to ask Niles about it first
Veah thought in a last ditch effort : to go to the bathroom getting undressed - remembering the good ol times in the shower & he watching on FaceTime & she thought he would get weak in his knees & he said : “have fun by yourself “ he didn’t want none of it .
Yall don’t understand how it is to live in an African household IN Africa and be at an age where marriage is an expectation. For her to gloat about her wonderful American fiancé and then cancel the wedding two weeks before? They will never stop talking about it

Ghana
@@Hotandspicy00 Oh shoot! Thanks for the correction!
Matilda's expression is PRICELESS as he read off his list! She did not want to hear that! LOL!
Niles should have inform her of this before coming to Ghana.
Matilda thought she was with a wealthy American. Joke was on her.
Matilda is so pretty , I hope she’s ok
i can understand matilda, my bf promised marraige with some time line and when my family met with his to discuss they kept postponing i lost it, i went into depression

Oh, she definitely has been bragging about the wedding to her friends and family. She is determined to marry him ASAP..he should have definitely told her it would not happen in this trip though🤔🤷🏾♀️
What people don't get is that in African countries and the east in general, people date for marriage and you shouldn't date for more that 2years. Marriage is taken very seriously and divorce is a taboo. Also Matilda has been prepped to be a good wife and Nile's life will improve.
@@bellam7546 ...I can understand that. Niles should have done more research into their cultural differences. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think they could be a good match, he just needs to honest about what he wants.

Not a one. Sunny is def. not a simp…. good on him!
Veah has the audacity to raise his voice at sunny as if she has done nothing wrong. Didn’t apologise at all. If Veah needed support, she should have asked a girl from the friendship group to come with her. Bringing her ex along was a big bad mistake. But if she considers him a brother then she should have told Sunny she's travelling with him for support.
Matilda is organizinh a wedding before she's even met Niles? As well, she should have made sure his family was onboard. He is travelling alone. It is important someone from his side be there beside him for support. I don’t know if there was a mix-up in communication but he finally told her.
I feel like dying is an expression in africa - the same thing as saying I feel like burying myself right now. That’s one’s way of saying I feel embarrassed.
at the 8:30 mark Melicia says she's never heard of anyone proposing at a grave site before and i think she should know that the Taj Mahal (in India not Vegas) IS a mausoleum (fancy word for grave site) and is considered to be ONE OF THE Most Romantic places on the planet. there a proposals pretty much daily in the gardens fronting this tomb for a Prince's beloved deceased wife (he bankrupted his kingdom to build this building). If your ex is important to you, you need to make sure you pick a partner who can understand that. If your biggest support is your ex boyfriend, it doesn’t make sense to get involved with some who is jealous/insecure.

Good for pointing out that Matilda did know he was talking about longer engagement and that it was still wrong for him to not make a point to clearly communicate and yet communication impairment is the largest part of an autism diagnosis so marrying someone with autism with communication impairments can be so dysfunctional.
