Surf is definitely your genre. Nice.
For the price of it, it totally sounds worth it. All I want is drip when it comes to reverb.
Isn't drip the most important thing there is when it comes down to music though?
Definitely my favorite video of your playing... Drip Reverb and Surf Sounds galore. Stoked 🏄♂️🏄♀️🏄♂️🏄♀️
Love your reviews! best reviews for all pedals hands down🙏🙏👀👀👏👏👏
Great review bro. Love the new look of the room as well
Enjoyed your playing. Very Nice!
I hear a very respectable emulation of a spring reverb tank, it is very nice. Especially for the price, great demo
In England, to be called a drip would be an insult but not here in Guitar-UA-cam-Land. Ryan my friend, you are king of the drips
Is a drip the equivalent of 'wimp'?
@Mark Swarbrick its always funny to see simpering insecure masculinity through the vernacular of a limey
@@MrISAACFACE u wot, shut up innit fam
King of drip would be better, then.
I'm in the US and it's the same way here. I haven't heard anyone called a drip in decades, but when l was a kid people used it a lot.
That was awesome!!!
Sounds better than expected!
I watched this a year ago & was impressed. My kids got me one for Xmas and I love it. I prefer using this pedal than the actual built in real spring reverb in my JTM30 combos 👍
Nice version of Perfidia with an extended solo! I enjoyed that!
Loved the jam at the end
ohhh my gooodness. sounds amazing
Great review, this sounds like the reverb that I have been looking for.
Thanks for this. I think I have found the Reverb for my own affordaboard... and thanks for playing this to the end. Well done brother!
Enjoyed the reviews lovely playing to ..what a great pedal for the money ..
Great, informative review with some really nice playing. Sought this video out since TC's own product video---for a product one would naturally assume would be of high interest to surf/instrumental players---didn't have surf guitar in it!
Its not the pre delay that gives that "drip" it uses one, but the " drip sound comes from a vibrato/ chorus added to the parallel signal.
Bought one to use with my Squire 70s Classic Vibe Jaguar. I really like it and did not have to break the bank to afford it. Very good review.
I'm stealing the first half second of this video for my outgoing voicemail message.
Ryan back from 60 Cycles of the Sun. :)
Well, it might not be an authentic drip, but if you hadn’t pointed that out, I doubt I would have noticed. I have a Digitech Luxe pedal that I can get a pretty convincing 12 string sound out of - it is not authentic either, and the Mosaic pedal is specifically designed to be more accurate - but unless you compare them head to head, no one would give a flying fajita. 😉 I’m going to look into this, as well as the other more accurate pedals you mentioned. Thanks for the honest review, and nice playing on your part!
Been waiting for this one! :) Seems like a fun pedal but i'm going for the Oceans 11 i think, always nice to have a great "do it all" reverb when you're rocking an amp with no verb! Thanks for the review and keep rocking Big Ryan! -Stephen (already saw the video yesterday but i haven't figured out how to add comments on the youtube app on my TV.) *insert rude and nastyness*
So much better than the spring setting on their Hall of Fame 2.
I love the plate on the HoF, but I sold it because I wanted a better spring.
I bought the pedal and returned it after testing it for 5 minutes.
The test that made me return it was to put an overdrive before the reverb, and without playing the guitar, hear the noise that the overedrive produced with the reverb turned off.
After activating the reverb, you can see the difference in the noise of the overdrive, which is filtered.
I don't know what the reverb algorithm will do, but it audibly filters the signal a lot.
A reverb pedal should leave the guitar signal unchanged, and add the reverb effect to it.
A good test is to play with all the pedal controls all the way down, and see if the signal changes or stays the same. If you change, that pedal is 'sucking tone'.
You can tell the difference in volume before and after turning on the pedal. It is very appreciable.
If you turn down the dwell a bit and crank up the tone, that thing could play some BEAUTIFUL blues tones.
Très belle demo... Je like
On a tight budget, your video saved me! I still want a holy grail/ehx in future, but as of now, this thing is cool 👍 oh yes, the volume drop. Getting used to it. It's a sweet pedal
Someone thought about face recognition program, but none made guitar player fingers recognition to tabs software.
Oooh, nice review btw.
FINALLY
It sounds great but my bug bare with the range is the soft latching switch. I have the tremolo and the swirly reverb and the lack of 'clunk' as you turn them on and off is unnerving when in the midst of battle. Nice video and playing.
Hi Ryan, great job! Thanks for making us Happy. One question which could be as what would you prefer to lose eyes or ears. TC Electrónic Drip or Digitech Digiverb for surf? Sorry for asking but my budget is really really tight. Thanks a lot. Best
Great review have ordered one because of this, it sounds great here but poor in the shoot out but for the money you can't go wrong. Update: i sent it back the volume drop was driving me nuts, you get what you pay for, probably good if you want the reverb on for every song but it was too much of a faff!
Your channel is the best reverb channel on UA-cam!
i love my tc electronics pedal collection - this one is next , from guitar center- chatt town tn....... playing space cowboy cargo transport genre..... imma be famous light years after im dead !!!!!! - TANKARD PILOT 2018 IN NOVEMBER !!!!!
After you mentioned the spring setting in the Oceans 11 I had to check, but honestly I think The Drip sounds better. It's not as metallic in the end as the Oceans 11.
I have a Boss 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb-Amp pedal and was hoping you had one too so you can put it in the shoot out? Keep having fun and when you put together Ryan & the Beach Bums to play I can try Bass, wear sun glasses, drink too much and show up late!
CowTownCustoms I don’t have the 65
60 Cycle Hum, do you want to borrow mine?
For the price it sounds pretty damn good. This is coming from a musician who’s been using a Source Audio True Spring for the last couple months (which is killer in its own right.) Around 3:50 mark you’re getting into Verve’s Storm in Heaven territory.
Just scored one in mint condition on Reverb (the irony) for $65 shipped!
Thanks for citing the volume drop. Truly appreciate that. It's really a set back. Otherwise it would be a great pedal for me. Are there any similar reverb with no volume drop?
‘Slight volume drop’ is an understatement. Sent mine back due to this. Needs a master volume.
awc5uk people have been reporting volume drop in many of the pedals from this line, seems like there is some component variance from unit to unit.
Topanga has a volume control - maybe not a super strong drip, but sounds great!
Bob Mac owned it, sold it. Ventris and Oceans 11 are much better pedals.
awc5uk ventrist too expensive, O11 has no volume control on a few but whatever floats your boat I guess Topanga best solution IMO
Bob Mac your right it’s about what works for you. I only really play surf and don’t want to have to transport an outboard tank. The Ventris and Oceans 11 replicate this incredibly well, especially the classic drip sound, but include a lot of other reverb effects I never use. Would like to see Source Audio and EH release a pedal version of just the outboard tank (at a cheaper price point).
Better than i thought it would be!
Me too, its still worlds away from what the oceans 11 and ventris offer, but It doesn't sound "bad".
60 Cycle Hum very true, but i think as far as atfordable spring reverb pedals go, this is my choice for sure.
60 Cycle Hum especially because i like to play spaghetti western, the predelay would sound cool with slap back echo.
I kind of wish there was a way to control the predelay time. maybe its hackable.
60 Cycle Hum i have a reverb pedal with a pre delay control. It was cheap too. Maybe you can splice it in there. Lol!
Could anyone help please?
Is my piece broken or is it normal to feel "delay" of the tone when the Mix knob is at 3 oclock and further? It feels weird when plucking a string and a sound comes after some short time...
This pedal sounds better than the Boss RV-6 that I bought a year ago. That "drip" is much more consistent than it is my RV-6. Anybody know of a pedal that makes a crashing sound like a reverb tank getting kicked around? I know that the Danelectro Spring King has a kick pad but I've heard somewhere that there was a crash pedal available...
what happens if you run a pedal like that thru a real spring reverb tank, like an onboard, in-amp one?
Dig and for the price? Sounds good.
Do I need this pedal if I already have a Digiverb?
I love the sound at the end! Do you remember what drive you used?
Normally $89.00 @ Sweetwater now on sale for $78.00. The Sky Surfer is $45.00 but there is a waiting list.
Sold.
🎉🎉🎉
Good video, thanks for sharing. Ryan, how would this compare to the TCE Sky Surfer. Would you be able to include that one in the comparison video as well? :)
Thomas Holmes I don’t have the sky surfer anymore. I really didn’t like it and don’t recommend it.
Thanks for the advice, I greatly appreciate it. For the money I think I’ll give this one a try :) ✌🏼
@@60CycleHumcast but in your sky surfer video (great video btw) you sad it was ok, useble... Ect
What is the song you are playing?? I know it but I can't remember the title is driving me maaaad!!!
Have youallready had a chance to test a "Malekko Chicklet Spring Reverb" ?
The volume drop could be a drag, but the tone is pretty darn good!
A great drag.
And not only is volume lost, the sound of the guitar is altered.
@@joseguitarra indeed. It’s a shame, I actually liked the reverb but it dropped the volume and made my guitar sound a bit phasey and anaemic
@@joseguitarra could running a simple clean boost pedal in front or back of the drip help with this? obviously the volume drop can be made up for that way, but i wonder about the signal getting thin and wimpy, if boosting before or after would fix it?
That wall is looking like Philip McKnight's sans PRS's and boutique amps. Honestly, The TC Drip sounded really good. What about the volume drop, Ryan? Can you counter it by dialing back on the mix control or you are stuck with it?
Iago B you are stuck with it.
Is there a real spring reverb tank inside of this? Anyone knows?
Thank you
Thanks for the video. The pedal was announced Jan. 9, so more than six months ago. Some reviewers have said it adds noise. Did you find this to be true? I sent my Oceans 11 back for an exchange but I may just cancel it. Yes, the drip is better ... but the pedal is about 2.5 times the price of the TC Electronic unit and it is a buffered pedal, not true bypass as is the Drip Spring Reverb. As others have said, I just want to add a bit of drip ... or near-drip to my playing. But thanks again and I'm looking forward to your head vs head video on some of the drip pedals you have.
I haven't noticed any extra noise from my Drip, but there seems to be some component variance in this line of pedals, some of them have volume drops and noise issues where others dont.
I have just received mine, lots of hiss, anyone there with the same problem?
I wonder if a booster pedal could help take care of the slight volume drop.
it would
Totally bought this pedal largely because of your review. I mostly play metal. But like you said it's for people that just want to play around with drippy reverb. It's a lot of fun. Any other pedals or gear you would recommend for surf tones?
i think the oceans 11 is a safe bet for an affordable near authentic surf sound.
@@60CycleHumcast Thanks for the reply Ryan! I enjoy your content. It's super chill and often hilarious.
One question, Ryan... I'm goin between this and the TC SkySurfer... I'm not big into Surf, per se, but I do enjoy a nice spring reverb... Which one do I get in your opinion... I trust you, and you know your stuff, hoss...
I honestly don’t recommend either. But the sky surfer will be way more usable than the drip. The drip is fun only for its weirdness.
Did you experience hearing any pops or artifacts in the reverb tail? I bought this pedal recently amd returned it for this reason. Tried 2 units both had same issue
No answer......I would like to know too
@@frankthepriest1220 I don't think I'm the only one that noticed it. There is a dude that does a review of this (and the skysurfer) on guitar and bass and he shows the artifacts clearly. For me, using it for recording, made the pedal useless. Since then, they have actually doubled the retail cost to $99, without fixing issues to my knowledge...
Important question regarding volume drop: did you plug in in-line (i.e., "insert," guitar > pedal > amp), OR did you plug it in to the amp's effects loop (i.e., "send")?
drippy/surf reverb always goes before the amp.
@@60CycleHumcast Thanks for the reply. As far as I know, when playing through an amp with a reverb unit, the reverb is after the amp (that is, in the "effects loop"). This is probably why you've experienced the volume drop. Have you tried the effects loop?
Idan Liberman no, reverb units go before the amp, not in the loop. This is the standard for surf tone. the amps I use don’t even have loops, lol.
Ok, I was sure that reverb u it's in amps are always after the pre-amp. In any case I usually place mine in the effects loop but will try all kinds of variations. Surf is the best.
I want
Would you say this is better than a holy grail nano? Looking for something better for my non reverb amp. Preferably something with that Fender spring tone
At the time the original Holy Grail came out, it was the only pedal that tried to emulate a surf drip. It sounded “ok” until others started coming out. Compared to this, The HG is awful.
The Big question: does It drip or It does not?
"Slight volume drop when engaged." Pass.
Mr Black Deluxe Plus does great drip spring plus trem
I hear no real drip too. And i bet the release delay is caused by some adjustments to the algorithms after the reactions to their first product videos.
The volume drop is a real no go without a volume control knob.
Have u ever checked the cheap Mosky Spring Reverb, also available in rebranded versions, that does a job close to that for about 25$.
For real drip save some money and get the Oceans 11 for ~150$ or a used Polara ~100.
EDIT:
Loved the playing as every time ☺
And if you ever don't need that Paisley shirt anymore i still want to do a guitar body with it...
Just teasing...
Hi Ryan and guys who own/owned the pedal. Does it have volume drop?
Yep
@@60CycleHumcast Meh. Thanks for answer =)
Got the pedal....but the volume loss was too dramatic...sent it back
X Y same thing happens with The Keeley Verb O Trem...
@@LiveToPlayGuitar That's unfortunate and good to know as that pedal looked really cool
Alex Murphy for what it’s worth I still own the pedal, it’s on my board and I do use it...cause when it’s on...its magic...I’m gonna hold on to it cause it’s one of those pedals that will always have decent resale value...especially if it goes out of production...🎸🔊🎶
Behringer DR600?
I don't think so.
Nice paying sir!!!!!
sounds like a Holy Grail, with filtering. no surprise that a cheap reverb sounds a bit cheap. Not a bad sound but not an inspiring sound. I would say save yr sheckles for a higher end reverb. the volume drop... that's fixable if you have a looper/switcher and something like a mxr microamp, but then twice the space on yr board. I would just see myself frustrated, ultimately.
great outro!
What the song 7:21 ???
Perfidia - the ventures
Drip drip just the tip
What dat drip do?
Professional Marketing Group 💧 💧 💧
Дуже розчарований падінням рівня звуку при вмиканні.. А звучить достойно!
Too much volume drop... no thanks.
Capefearcapt same thing with Keeley Verb O Trem...
I am knobby and I would by it
Does not sound good, and you know it, having played every spring reverb out there. Why do you say it sounds "good"? How much did TC pay you for that video?
they paid me nothing, and I actually bought this pedal with my own money. For $60 I think it gives a nice surfy sound. I'm working on a video right now where i shoot it out against a bunch of other drippy reverbs.
Ryan has also reviewed the TC Electronic Skysurfer pedal, which he says he didn't like all that much and says it again here. So remember he keeps saying "good for the money" ... that's a big difference then just flat out saying it's a "good" pedal.
Yeah, don't buy the skysurfer.
Sounds good to me especially for the price. Think you should realise we all have our personal likes and dislikes there is no universal good or bad. You can't be an authority on other peoples preference.
Rafi Kirder maybe because what is good is subjective?
It could be a good review if you was able to play guitar
Best used as an expensive door-stop.....................not impressed.
