Well being that most modern TVs don't handle composhite correctly especially from an old console (they look like a blurry mess, with a side of artifacts everywhere) the AV2HDMI looks miles better. And that is really what they're for. If I was to hook any one of my retro Consoles up to my modern TV they look like absolute crap and the picture is way off center (where the bottom part of the image is cut off), the AV2HDMI fixes those issues, and makes the image look as good as what composhite can provide.

Hi NubsTheGamer - will I be able to connect my Playstation 2 to my Samsung MU8000 55" 4K TV? (already have the TV and no possible way to get another TV at this time, so I've got to try to make this "WORK" no matter what else I need to buy - just not another TV) ----- So that being said, this Samsung TV only has HDMI inputs (no composite no component).... should I purchase the "OFFICIAL" Sony component connector, and then purchase a component to HDMI up-scaler converter box?
Laura Johnson The AV to HDMI upscaler works with 4K TVs. I have used the RasFox Composoite to HDMI in this video to upscale to 1080P on my 4K LG with no issues. Now weather the games look good or not depends on the game. Some look bad. The AverMedia Component to HDMI will give you the best look but only at whatever max resolution of the games output, plus you will need Component cables to use it. The cables don't have to be Officially Sony cables. You can look on Amazon, they do have Component to HDMI upscaler unites, but don't have the best reviews.
Nice video! But I wanna know something. I heard about upscalers and other cables that can improve the quality image more than in this video. Which are the best to upscale 1080i in my LED? No matter the price. And can they be used in all retro consoles like Nes or Genesis?
Most games run at 480i and 480P on PS2. Only 4 games have 1080i support so upscaling to 720p would be fine. Might not make a difference in video quality but at least it will be in a fitting screen resolution of 720p.
i have an hd60s, which component converter to hdmi would you recommend. I also create youtube videos and would like to know your set up and settings for the hd60s.
I use the AdverMedia Component to HDMI converter. It cost $40 but hands down the best. Build quality is great and its powered by USB. I will have to get back with you on the settings part, need to find my laptop lol
Yes it will only change the resolution but the image will still be the same quality. The only way to get better quality is to use a better cable. For the PS2, you can switch from Composite cables to Component cables and you will see a better picture. If the game supports 480p and up then it will look and play much better then 480i Composite.
The Animated You will get better quality using Component cables over Composite. Composite can only output a max resolution of 480i while Component can output up to 1080i/p. With the PS3, you have the ability to use Composite, Component and HDMI. The lowest quality would be using Composite and highest quality would be HDMI.
I don't have a way to test if it works or not but I can only assume it should work since the AverMedia is basically passing the signal through the converter. But I honestly can't test be cause I don't have a non HDCP monitor to test it with.
So you can't just up scale every game to 720-1080, only the games allow them. I'm using ps2 to hdmi converter box, looks like it doesn't make any difference, I only using it on da Devine code , so I guess the game doesn't have 480i function
Kawaii Ninja The RasFox AV Composite to HDMI converter also upscales to 720p/1080p. In some situations does it make a difference. I only found it fixed a issue where the screen was cut off using my NES on 720, but it was fixed using 1080p. Here's the video I did on that specific converter. ua-cam.com/video/t8iAvt1pVPA/v-deo.html
Also, if the game is higher then 480i you have to enable Progressive Scan by holding down the Triangle and X button together after the game boots up. It will ask you if you want to play in progressive mode.
Hi NubsTheGamer. It's important for me i have a question. I have ps2 and i bought ps2 hdmi adapter. And my games are so dark on my modern TV. If i buy AV to HDMI i wont have such dark games? I will pay 50 euros for it. I will wait for your answer. Thanks.
An RGB SCART signal is best because even at 1080i the PS2 has terrible component YPbPr encoding. For $30 the Pound HD Link is very underrated. I highly recommend it as long as you have the ability to adjust aspect ratio to 4:3 on your TV. It upscales to stretched 720p widescreen and you can't change that unless you squish the output to 4:3 on the TV.
You can just use Component cables if your TV has the inputs for it but the Adapter makes it easier to plug a HDMI cable into. Since I have multiple game systems with Component I find it easier to plug them into the adapter instead of keep unplugging and plugging cables behind my 60" TV every time I want to change systems lol. Plus I can plug the adapter up to my capture device and live stream or record footage.
@@NubsTheGamer so the avermedia you showed in the video, if I get that one would it be possible to plug that one in my TV? My TV does not have the inputs for component cables so I'm guessing that either way I would need an hdmi adapter right? They are quite expensive 😂
Yes one end has inputs for the Component cables and the other end has a HDMI port. You just plug the HDMI cable into the adapter then plug the other end of the HDMI cable into your TV. The AverMedia adapter I use is expensive at $40 compared to other brands but I find their build quality better and have had the best results with.
Not with the AverMedia Component to HDMI. You would have to make sure you get a Component to HDMI that will upscale. I currently haven't looked into one since the only 2 systems I use Component cables with would be the PS2 and Game Cube.
They have PS2 HDMI adapters where it just plugs into the PS2 and the other end is a HDMI but I personally like it this way because of some bad reviews for those adapters. Plus I have other game systems to use with the HDMI adapter 😊
EPiK DJ What's Up EPiK, GTA III was captured in 480i because it doesn't support 480p. But as you can see using Component cables you get a little better picture and it's not so soft. The game Black does support 480p so it was captured in 480p for the for the comparison.
A cheap Component cable is all you need. I think my Component cable is a cheap one also. The offical Sony cables can sometimes go for more money so the cheap cables are good and work just the same

Guns N Gains Use Component cables. You can use any Component to HDMI converter if you want to use HDMI. Component cables will give you the best picture. Depending on the game, it might support 480p and/or 1080i which are the best quality options you can get. Here is a list to the page where you can see what games are 480p and 1080i. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_alternate_display_modes
So I have a 60gb backwards compatibility PS3 I'm trying to get the best picture quality out of it when playing PS2 titles. I'm finding using HDMI seems a bit blurry. What cables Would you recommend using to get the best picture And help make a bit clearer when playing PS2 games on my PS3. Thanks in advance.
Ben S I also have the original 60gb PS3 and sadly it's broken at the moment. But when I was using it I only used Composite for a year and then got a HDTV and started using HDMI. I know within the settings you can change a few things to get a better looking picture, but the PS3 never looked that great when playing PS2 games. Even though it has the PlayStation 2's CPU and GPU, it seems some games were really terrible looking. If mine was working I could do a comparison but since it's not, I can only believe that HDMI would be the best to use.
My HDTV is a Sharp Aquos LCD from over 6 years ago and it looks like shit when playing any game that is in standard definition. Its horrible, so bad that I get constant strain and headaches playing games for only 2 hours. I am certain that any generic upscalers considering it works will be ten times better than the shit jagged edges, lines, and pixels I am seeing all over my tv screen. Would anyone recommend one for me? :)
Anthony Fennell to get the absolute better picture out any old game system would be to buy a Framemeister, but they cost around $400. They give you the exact picture you would get from a old tube TV. Really crisp and clear picture but that is a hefty price. I know using Component cables on systems where they are excepted like PS2 and GameCube can make games look better. You can buy mods for the old systems but those are a bit in price also.
yea I rather not spend hundreds of dollars on the framemeister and the ossc looks better but still rather expensive and not as compatible with tvs. I do consider possibly getting one in the future but right now would do better with a cheaper upscaler. I understand what youre sayin, the framemeister is awesome and gives you exactly what you want.. I have some cheap component cables and they are better than my composite but still dont do any justice in terms of pixelation and all the different types of visual distortions im getting. If you had an only the option to pick from upscaler in the $30 to $50 dollar range which one would you get?
Anthony Fennell Well I only have the RasFox Composite Upscaler. There are other Upscalers that cost less then the $30 RasFox I have but I would check the reviews on them. I did a video on the RasFox converter and only saw a small issue when playing NES games. But only when displaying black colors in a certain area. Other wise it has worked pretty good and It seemed decent. Here's the video to give you a sense of what the RasFox and similar convertors look like. I think pixelation will always be a fight with TVs above Tube types. ua-cam.com/video/t8iAvt1pVPA/v-deo.html
Composite to HDMI has standard squared screen, component to HDMI stretches the image to widescreen. Yes the component to HDMI had slightly better color, but composite to HDMI is going to leave you with the standard non stretched image. Notice how the characters are all cone headed, notice how the map in the lower corner of the screen was oval-shaped instead of round using the component to HDMI?!!
Yes I can do San Andreas next. Subscribe to my channel so once I get the video uploaded you can check it out. In the meantime feel free to check out some of my other comparisons.
Well I don't have that adapter but you should be able to just plug it into the back of PS2 as normal. Then plug a HDMI cable into the adapter. You might need to change the video output from the PS2 Menu when the system boots up. Everything should work once that is done.
Hi please can you help me I have bought a ps2 slim 90004 and I want to connect it with a Samsung QLed TV , I have only HDMI input and I want the better resolution! What can I buy?
lol 1080i was upscaled not native highest native on ps2 was 480p lots of games were a 240i and 480i max not one was above that resolution it was obly the video out that was 1080i and it looked like crap
The PS1 max resolution was 480i, PS2 Max was 1080i. There are only 4 games in the entire PS2 library of games that can out at 1080i resolution. There are also a lot of games that can output in 480P giving the games a much more vivid look with colors and sharpness.
You can now get component output from the original Playstation using an adapter by HD Retrovision. The results are amazing: ua-cam.com/video/by0y-Jo8yNA/v-deo.html
That's Awesome. My next step was PS1 games but wasn't all that sure how to get good results without modifying the system. I will have to pick me one up. Thanks
No TalentGamer That's incorrect. 720p is defined as HD while both 1080i and 1080P are defined as Full HD. Interlace and Progressive Scan are just two different technologies or "ways" the image is displayed. Even though 1080p will provide a much better image then 1080i, both have the same resolution that is defined as a Full HD resolution.
NubsTheGamer my point exactly, vertical line give the more accurate image. So you almost answered my question but still wrong in many ways because the texture resolution between i and are completely different story's. True full HD is at its best with p, interlaced is a cheap TV version of full hd
Yes there both full HD again, but like I said. I if do people who want cheap tack TVs it's like an iPhone. Two versions one is tack the other is higher end, should not be defined as full HD tbh

Is component HDMI referring to an ps2-HDMI cable, whereas Composite refers to a AV2HDMI converter?
well the ps2 doesnt have many 480p games. most of them are 480i.
now the original xbox most of its games are 480p.
Og xbox has a lot of 720p games and 1080i and looks great on component. With an hdcrt tv
Framemeister. You can't get any better then that but at a big price tag compared to cheap upscalers.
If I am using ps2 component video and I am good with it, still, should I change to hdmi upscaled 720p?
Most games run at 480i and 480P on PS2. Only 4 games have 1080i support so upscaling to 720p would be fine. Might not make a difference in video quality but at least it will be in a fitting screen resolution of 720p.
Does it also work if you play ps1 games on the ps2? I've heard some converters mess up the signal
My component cable is not compatible with PS1 games due to it's very low output, but the av cable connected directly to HDTV works fine.
i have an hd60s, which component converter to hdmi would you recommend. I also create youtube videos and would like to know your set up and settings for the hd60s.
I use the AdverMedia Component to HDMI converter. It cost $40 but hands down the best. Build quality is great and its powered by USB. I will have to get back with you on the settings part, need to find my laptop lol
Is it best to leave the resolution ratio at 4:3 or 16:9
Thanks a lot I was wanting to add ps2 games to my channell
I leave it at 4:3 as some games with 16:9 cut some of the screen off
How can i get star wars BF2 to look more clear?
so when u use the av to HDMI does your TV read it as 720p and keep the quality at 480i
Yes it will only change the resolution but the image will still be the same quality. The only way to get better quality is to use a better cable. For the PS2, you can switch from Composite cables to Component cables and you will see a better picture. If the game supports 480p and up then it will look and play much better then 480i Composite.
NubsTheGamer k cause I have the mcable if u know about it. I need the video output to be at least 480p for it to upscale it.
NubsTheGamer if that makes sense
NubsTheGamer one more question does the converter make the game full screen
What is your component to hdmi converter brand and does it cause scratchy audio for 480i games on HD 60s?
Hi, the Component to HDMI converter I use is by the brand AverMedia. It works really well and I dont have any issues with audio.
@@NubsTheGamer what resolution does it output to? 720p?
Up to 1080i. Possibly 1080p but I'm not sure, I just know 1080i because of some of the PS3 games are 1080i and I have one 1080i PS2 game
is there a difference in display on component cable only vs component to hdmi
No basically the same but some modern tv's don't have component ports anymore. That's why you need the adapter if that's the case for you.
Nice comparison. Are those converter boxes produce any delay to reach the TV?
Thank you and I I haven't notice any lag or delay using any of my adapters. They worked really well 😊
@@NubsTheGamer great man, will give it a try
Do the PS3 composite cables output just as good quality as the component cables?
The Animated You will get better quality using Component cables over Composite. Composite can only output a max resolution of 480i while Component can output up to 1080i/p. With the PS3, you have the ability to use Composite, Component and HDMI. The lowest quality would be using Composite and highest quality would be HDMI.
S-Video would be close if not same as component iirc. - though its not able to output 720p/1080p? (correct me please)
The smaller the tv screen the better that's why would recommend playing on a monitor
Does that AverMedia cable work on non HDCP complient monitors?
1. Get a composite to hdmi
2. Get the Mcable for sharper resolution
Will it really provide better HD quality?
You accidentally say "composite" a few times when you mean "component." Might wanna note that.
Yup I just never fixed it lol Thanks for looking out
Hi NubsTheGamer. It's important for me i have a question. I have ps2 and i bought ps2 hdmi adapter. And my games are so dark on my modern TV. If i buy AV to HDMI i wont have such dark games? I will pay 50 euros for it. I will wait for your answer. Thanks.
The only that I like from composite to hdmi it’s that it look darker
Yeah but for some games it's too dark.
Pound cable is terrible on the ps2 u cant play 480p. It is great for the ps1 tho
Can u run ps1 games with either of them because I bought an adaptor and it can’t
Yes, I use my PS2 system and it works fine. I just use my Composite cables and Adapter for PS1 games.
Wait so, after buying the component cables do you have to buy an hd adapter too apart from it? Or does it come all together?
Please bring more games comparison
+Dom Gamer Hi Dom thanks for watching the video. I have more videos coming real soon 😃👍👍
ua-cam.com/video/5Sgj3dmeDns/v-deo.html Here's my latest video, hope you enjoy it and thanks again for watching and your support. 😃👍👍
Which aver media model is this
Whats the name of the HDMI component adapter?
Yes the difference on black is huge
Will we be able to upscale using component to hdmi?
Not with the AverMedia Component to HDMI. You would have to make sure you get a Component to HDMI that will upscale. I currently haven't looked into one since the only 2 systems I use Component cables with would be the PS2 and Game Cube.
@@NubsTheGamer yeah I too thought only component can upscale
Thanks though
А что за авермедиа переходник?
Ok you have sold me on this
Where I can buy the avermedia converter?
I purchased mine from Amazon
just making sure, I have to get a component cable and an adapter to make it HDMI... got it.
They have PS2 HDMI adapters where it just plugs into the PS2 and the other end is a HDMI but I personally like it this way because of some bad reviews for those adapters. Plus I have other game systems to use with the HDMI adapter 😊
Looks like you have TWO 16:9 filters turned on that's why they cables are BS because of the stupid dip switch
Did you put the game in progressive scan or just recorded component 480i
EPiK DJ What's Up EPiK, GTA III was captured in 480i because it doesn't support 480p. But as you can see using Component cables you get a little better picture and it's not so soft. The game Black does support 480p so it was captured in 480p for the for the comparison.
so you used the component with the avermedia converter right?
Yes the Component adapter was the AverMedia brand
@@NubsTheGamer hi , thanks for reply! Is it enough to buy a "cheap" component cable" like you have in the video or do i need the sony cable?
A cheap Component cable is all you need. I think my Component cable is a cheap one also. The offical Sony cables can sometimes go for more money so the cheap cables are good and work just the same
@@NubsTheGamer i see. Do you have any source or link for me please? Thanks
These are pretty good and free shipping if you have an Amazon account.

Can you try mortal kombat armageddon?
Yup if I can get my hands on a copy then I will do the video 😃
Hi Wesley, just wanted to let you know that I was able to get a copy of MK Armageddon. It will take a few days to get the video together due to my busy schedule. If you are subscribed to my channel then keep an eye out as it will be my next video. If you aren't subbed then feel free to sub and please enjoy my other videos on my channel.
Wesley C Sorry for the wait, had a issue with my PS2 Slim but I manage to get all the footage I needed to make the video. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/ypQ7VaLUj4c/v-deo.html
Do they have it on HDRM or 8K
Does it give a 1080P tho
How do I get the best picture clarity for my PS2?
Guns N Gains Use Component cables. You can use any Component to HDMI converter if you want to use HDMI. Component cables will give you the best picture. Depending on the game, it might support 480p and/or 1080i which are the best quality options you can get. Here is a list to the page where you can see what games are 480p and 1080i. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_alternate_display_modes
Good video. Thanks u.

Component looks like a Ps3 game. Holy shitballs. TO EBAY!
Idk why but black reminds me of MW3
Hey uncle danny it's chy
Hi Chy. I hope you like my channel. I some cool videos ❤
Ur just cool in general
Awe Thank You sweetheart.
@@NubsTheGamer yep
Component cables for the PS2 lot better
Plug-in component white cable will PS2 . full widescreen
Use component to hdmi then use mclassic....
Waitt so black is gta 3?
Sorry but AV component looks better to me. Like HDR or something, shadows looks better, black is darker.
You called component cables composite cables. 😁
Yup and someone caught that 😆😆
@@NubsTheGamer 😁
I think pixelation will always be a fight with TVs above Tube types. ua-cam.com/video/t8iAvt1pVPA/v-deo.html
its good, and seems better than several other options, thanks
Anthony Fennell You're welcome.
You're not really paying attention...
Can you try San Andreas

someone...can help me how to install it...HDMI at PS2
Are you using a PS2 to HDMI adapter?
@@NubsTheGamer yes(just planing to do)
Well I don't have that adapter but you should be able to just plug it into the back of PS2 as normal. Then plug a HDMI cable into the adapter. You might need to change the video output from the PS2 Menu when the system boots up. Everything should work once that is done.
@@NubsTheGamer Thank q...I'll try
Component HDMI is better :3
Hi please can you help me I have bought a ps2 slim 90004 and I want to connect it with a Samsung QLed TV , I have only HDMI input and I want the better resolution! What can I buy?
Freddy K download pcsx2 to get a best resolution or get a 60gb bc ps3
@@Freddy-tv2ki Just buy a component HDMI like in this video and enjoy
lol 1080i was upscaled not native highest native on ps2 was 480p lots of games were a 240i and 480i max not one was above that resolution it was obly the video out that was 1080i and it looked like crap
Thanks
Nice video dude! :)
Ruben Valkyries Thank You
At 3:42 that's a wacist thing to say sir. And here I thought you were different🤣🤣🤣🤣
You gotta know I'm just poking fun at all the nonsense going on these days.
Not a real upscaler, more of a send through
Right win
hdmi is only better on dvd and bluray movies shows and pc and labtop
av out cables better on vidoe games

1080i is not full HD p.... Progressive scan........
