This is Part 2 of the restoration of the Sony Handycam Model CCD F500E. In this episode we will continue to restore the camcorder by replacing the capacitors on the the main two boards attached to the Video 8 cassette recorder.
For anyone wanting the capacitor values for both boards:

4v smd caps are a pain to find in my locality. China commonly only makes 6.3v and not even all values including the odd ones. it makes the restoration harder, even for cassette players.
As long as the voltage is the same or higher, but the UF is the same it will be fine. So for example the SMD cap is 100UF @ 4V then you can use a 100UF @ 10V but the caps may be slightly larger. Hope this helps.
5:30 how long does the solder wicking exactly take before all the old solder comes off?
If you use flux and set the iron at 375 degree, the wick should remove all the old solder in seconds.
Would it be possible for you to list all off the capacitors required to do all the boards and also three type (SMD, Electrolytic etc.). I want to try and get everything before attempting this.
Hi, Regarding a list of all the capacitors required, I will put them a full list of all the caps needed in the next part. The great thing about these capacitors, you can get a SMD kit for less than £10 on Amazon with majority of the values you need. Just the odd values will have to be sourced else where though, but I will put a link to those caps too. Hope this helps. 🙂
