Slap on a coat or two of any old leftover paint. That will help the longevity without much more work. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I made mine out of a 5 gallon plastic bucket. I put duct seal in the back of it and filled it with rubber mulch. I put some clips on it to hold the target. I cut a square out on the lid and put a peice of scrap rubber roofing over the cut. Put you some 16ga steel and put in the back of your target or some duct seal for extra protection. Paint it zombie green for extra fun.

As for cutting slots in the top for the clip screws, why not just cut the excess screw off? Just a thought. BTW a good box .

I used an aluminum plate on the rear wall of mine. Certainly not as strong as steel but, I figured that IF the pellet made it that far, it would be going slow enough (or be in small enough pieces) that it wouldn't;t penetrate a 1/8" thick aluminum sheet backed by the plywood. ;) Thanks for the comment!

    Hi Tom,
Here is another option that you may wish to try in the future.
Instead of using the rubber mulch as filler, try instead using a breadboard/cutting board made up of hard a plastic type of material.
This cutting-board should be able to absorb pellets from most air rifles out there.
You can probably purchase these type of cutting boards at Walmart or any of your big box stores in the US, they usually come in a set of two, one is a small cutting board while the other is a fairly large cutting board.
The size of the large board is roughly 9.5” by 13” and the thickness is 3/8”
The way to install this would be to place the board on an angle of roughly 45 - 50 degrees, where the top of the cutting-board would be placed in the front upper opening of your shot box and the bottom of the cutting-board would be at the bottom back of your shot box, this way all the pellets would be unable to make direct impacts onto the board, instead they would mostly hit on a steep angle and slid down to the bottom back of your shot box.
Not only would you eliminate all the extra weight from the rubber mulch, but also allow easy cleanup of all the flatten pellets inside the shot-box.

Cool idea. Do you think it would handle an Airforce Condor SS .25 shooting 33.95 grain pellets and heavier slugs/bullets producing 70 to 95 foot pounds of energy?? That is what I'm looking for. My Condor SS .25 is a sledgehammer when I turn up the power adjustment wheel.

Instead of building a wooden box (don't have table saw) I bought a big plastic storage bin at Walmart, put two bags of rubber mulch in it and fired away. Shooting from 10 yards with a PCP .25 air rifle the mulch catches every pellet.

Ha, Tom, I just watched this video again and noticed your work table that the pellet trap box is sitting on in the shop. It's like a huge pellet shape from our view? Cool

Rubber mulch? Can you buy that by the bag at Home Despot? Also Tom, I have registered for EBR and booked my hotel. Plan to drive down in my Tacoma. If you would be interested in pooling, let me know. Plan to arrive night of the 10th.

Yes, it's cheap too! I appreciate the EBR invite very much, thank you! However, I already have plans made. See you there!!

I got one even better and you can throw it away when done get a decent card board box and fill it with sand (not a real big box) but one you can carry to the yards you want it at put stickers all over it and shoot it until it's all jacked up your pellet gun isn't going to go through it that way you have all 4 sides to shoot at then trash
