Touch technique: how I find my pee hole with a catheter even though I can't feel my *you know what*

  • All you have to do is get a tiny catheter into a tiny hole, in a place you can't feel at all. What's so hard about that lol?
When you see these steps in writing, it makes using a catheter seem pretty intimidating. And it CAN be pretty intimidating when you first start learning, but I promise it's actually not that bad. All you need is a map of your vulva and a little bit of practice and you're good to go.
Tune in for your daily dose of TMI on the anatomy of your vulva and my tips for how to find your pee hole when you're paralyzed!

You are brutally honest in dealing with topics that most would rather not face, and most do not even know about, even without the added burden of your loss of sensation. You are right, it is intimidating, but for you and many others is it an essential everyday activity. I hope you achieve your obvious aim of instructing others to learn, and understand, how to deal with any and every task, that may be thrown at them.

Thank you for sharing fellow Canadian! I had an emergency double laminectomy and discectomy in January. My spinal cord was cut slightly so I am now dealing with some issues there. I still also have pinched nerves but in a lower area than before the surgery, so I am also dealing with numbness and bladder issues too. So thank you for the information, I just requested the mirror and some catheter samples. Now I'm just waiting for them to call me to help choose the right size. I like your zipper solution, I might make one for myself to try, since it seems to be helpful! Thank you again and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Small liquid detergent bottles that are plastic and hold laundry detergent have screw top lids and make much better urinals than the male urinal you are showing in my opinion. The male urinals they sell are really thin plastic and don’t hold up very well. Plus, the detergent bottles are free because you were buying detergent anyway! One suggestion I have is, instead of you having to hold the collection bottle, would it not be possible if the discharge end of the Catheter were fitted with a length of plastic tube that would slip on the a suitably sized spout as a moulded part of the collection bottle's cap, that way the collection bottle could be placed on the floor etc leaving your Catheter guiding hand free.

I took your advice from a passed video and bought a male urinal yesterday as I got a great idea that looks like it's going to work. I hook the handle of the urinal on my calf pad of my chair that is behind my right leg so that I have both hands free. As I use a Coude Curved Tip Catheter it takes a bit to get the catheter in the right direction (turned to my left with the tip facing up towards the heart, so I was told by my urologist). I also have a fairly big mirror at home in my bathroom that I use to help show me what I'm doing. That makes it easier to see as I'm always looking down below my glasses so I'm going to take advantage of this small mirror from coloplast so I can carry it with me when I have to catheterize while out and about because I don't carry a mirror when I'm not home. Thanks so much for the ongoing advice.

As a boy three years ahead of her I learned about the topography of a woman's pubic area at about 15. I'm not para, so I have full feeling. So do you sense a full bladder with blood pressure elevation or what? When my blood pressure suddenly rises, I get anxiety type feelings, what senses do you get?
