Montreux. About 1989. i had this on YT about a year ago but my account got deleted. Now its back and re-mastered!
An unexpected moment of musical heaven. Two of the greatest ever British vocalists (and songwriters) singing one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Songs way too under rated
...and obviously having the time of their lives.
Paradise is where I was listening was listening to it!
@@laurencesiegel9362 ...even if the harmonies were a little out of tune until halfway through the song.
Brings back some awesome memories - I took my friend Ruth to a Costello concert on her 18th birthday in 1982 in London. Difford and Tillbrook were at the back of the hall and I went and spoke to them. Later fate had us sneak into the back stage do because the roadie thought Ruth was someone else and we spent the night in the company of Elvis, Chris, Glenn, Pete, Bruce and Steve (and one very friendly roadie). At the end of the evening Chris gave me his phone number and said we had to come to the concert in Brighton a few weeks later - he'd pick us up from the station if we called him when we arrived. He had just bought a new house there and we could stay over night, they'd get us into the concert on a pass and as he put it 'everyone was coming to the party afterwards' at his place. We were so thrilled and when we got home we checked out the date with horror as it was the night before Ruth's English A'level and my Maths A'level - two years of study verses the party of our lives! We were just too embarrassed to say that we were too nerdy to come as our A'levels came first to ring up and say thanks so much but we can't make it! Often wondered what I missed for the sake of my university - but what amazing guys the lot of them and Chris Difford - superstar!!!! Thanks for posting so I can see them together again.
This is why the internet was invented.
Superb. Nothing else to say
The mother load of supergroup members. Nick Lowe, Squeeze and EC!!! Mind blown!
I never get tired of this one.
It's funny how happy tears is often my response coming across something this beautiful.
WOW that was FAB!
Definitely one of the loveliest ballads of the entire British Invasion!
And another wonderful cover by my all-time favorite artist--Elvis of course and nice to see Squeeze and Brinsley Schwarz represented too! Fantastisch!
The song gives me goosebumps and seeing a tribute to it by these great artists is awesome!
Great performance but I still like Paul Jones singing it.
I had totally forgotten about this song. Awesome tune and Elvis' rendition is terrific.
Wow. Squeeze, Elvis C and Nick Lowe singing the best Manfred Mann song. Brill.
My grandpa Mark, wrote this song in 1966, and I just released my cover of it on my UA-cam channel! I would greatly appreciate any support I can get
Brilliant!! Thanks for posting. I would have given my left anything to see these guys playing live.
this is a proper 'supergroup'
I agree with you❤
Amazing! As a huge Sq fan, I've never seenn/heard this, nor been aware that it happened. Love Chris's smiles - pure joy!
this is wonderful ,elvis costello is the only person i will allow to sing my very favourite song ever ......xx
Wow. EC with most of Squeeze and Nick Lowe. The best.
L-R: Tilbrook, Costello, Difford, Lowe. Rear: Levis
Squeeze brightens up any neighborhood.
LAVIS!
The drummer is Gilson Lavis, lives in Pinchbeck Lincolnshire. I was his postman, no kidding!….
Absolutely Fabulous.
So nice to see the cream of late '70's pop all together. I think Elvis and Glen blend fantastic on vocal, mind you Glen would blend with anyone! Elvis vocal much more "believable" than the original.
I am from the generation when bands created music in parts,so nice to hear a great bass player doing exactly that! Gives room
elvis costello you have done a fantastic job with my all time favourite song xxxxxxx
oh my godddd i am SO in love with this!!!!
A bigger UK hit for Manfred Mann. The Everly Brothers pulled off a great cover of this in the mid 1960s, using the Hollies and Jimmy Page as session cats.
Give Elvis his dues. His voice has improved substantially over the past three decades. I heard him live recently and his singing was really accomplished. Back when he was in his 'prime' he probably hadn't put the effort into vocal training.

Thanks so much for bringing this back, used to watch it loads. Fantastic period for Squeeze when Elvis Costello was working with them to produce the East Side Story Album. Brilliant live version of a classic song! Thanks again.
Absolutely brilliant.
And very glad to see it back too!
It's Nick who makes this really enjoyable...thanks for this!
This was such a charming and beautifully sung song by the Manfreds.
by Manfred Mann, actually, the Manfreds were the later revival of the band less its founder.
@@racketman2u Hey racketman. You are dead right. Of course it was the fabulous Manfred Mann. I was just being abbreviative, and had forgotten about the later manifestation of this great group.
The Manfred Mann recording was meaningful and poignant, with such fabulous singing.
Thank you for the heads up.All the best.
Paul Weller does a nice cover, too.
Fantastic line-up. What a great vid.
thanks for posting this fantastic song, one of my favorites
Mark Barkan wrote this - an amazing talent. So many amazing songs.
R.I.P., he has a flamingo on his gravestone as tribute.
@@sebastianbarks1847 Wow, I didn't know that. Awesome.
One could go to the grave content that the world is a better place for having written this beauty
Wow !! What a treat !!
Thank you!!!!! This is a perfect start to 2013 - where would music be without Squeeze and Elvis?? BEST!!!!
I couldn't name an Elvis Costello song if my life depended on it. But I like this.
neither could I! oh,apart from "Oliver's Army", of course. and all those other great songs from "Armed Forces", like "Moods For Moderns", "Busy Bodies", "Chemistry Class", and "Senior Service", ooh, and "Watching The Detectives", oh, and "Veronica", that's a good one, but apart from that, ... nah, can't think of any.
Couldn’t name Allison?
Not an Elvis Costello fan. I'm so old, I remember when Manfred Mann did this song; and when Elvis meant Presley.
Just brilliant!
Thanks for reposting this. Great performance.
A song about a beautiful woman! And what's wrong about a beautiful woman, cod all woman are beautiful
Think that was at Montreaux jazz festival. I was there
Superb
Thanks, excellent!
Thanks for saving this great performance!
Love Squeeze and Elvis Costello.
Sounds great. Greetings all from the Justmadeit2 channel
FYI, the drummer here is Gilson Lavis, Squeeze's drummer at the time.
best on the net. nice one!
I remember this from when it was posted previously. This version of the old Manfred Mann standard is excellent.

Great notice a lyric change from manfred man , Elvia Costello a great version so together acoustic guitars brilliant love it so normal not plastic feel your there having a good time brilliant 😛x
That drummer has backed more of the worlds best than any drummer in music history.
Gilsoni Lavis , lives in Pinchbeck Lincolnshire. I was his Postman!.. no kidding
@@terrybarton8388 I’ve had many laughs with Gilson. He’s one of the best.
i was bluffing madly, but i had a nice drink!

Love. Love. Love.
There's only one Elvis I love this version
I remember when the new family moved into the neighborhood. The youngest daughter was so pretty and sweet. I was too shy to do anything about it. Every time I hear this song I remember her, 45 years later. Saw her a few months ago, still looks fine. Kind of a dingbat, though.
The drummer is Gilson Lavis.
Sing it. Lallalala . . .Pretty Flamingo . . .
Fucking brilliant.
Love it
i've loved this song ever since i first heard it -- the rod stewart version in 1976 or so. probly cuz it reminded me of a particular female schoolmate :D i never owned up to liking it, my crowd were all into zz top, the stones skynyrd etc & it was 'too pop' & 'too romantic.' interestingly tonight i learn not only did elvis costello cover it live - springsteen did too. [i much prefer EC's version.]
See, you were in good company all along.
GREAT!
wow 10/10 thanx

Ah! Let's take a listen to Baltimore's Tommy Vann and the Echos version.
The old Manfred Mann hit!!
great
written by friend bridget barkan's dad, mark barkan!
lucky you!!!
paul jones kills it!
Thank God you place it back again! I cannot believe some idiot in this day & age pushed for such a claim for a live cover song. Jesus... as if you would make money of of it...
You gotta love a mustang bass
Tillbrook looks like he's going through withdrawals
Or sweating out the booze
sir bob dylan likes this
In reply to: Joseph Schwartz's comment below: Well, no. This is NOT why this was the Internet was invented. But I will add this: it is about the ONLY reason why folks like us (yeah, real people) find it in any way worthwhile.
Look how 'appy Chris is.
Elvis
Squeeze
Rockpile
Wow
Elvis does the best cover ever. But Manfred Mann original is better.
No! Elvis owns it...
A purist version!
Nice to see that Nick finally learned how to play the bass. Took what 20 years?
have you heard 'I love the sound of breaking glass'? nifty bass in there
Squeeze were great! Super lyricists - tho this song is by Mark Barkan. Elvis isn't the world's greatest singer. Check out the Manfred Mann version.
Most covers are dreadful. This isnt, Top track!
I guess one learns this when listening to this after hearing Paul Jones ... Elvis Costello cannot sing. It is, however, a rockin' version.
He was the WORST choice to sing this!
Superb
