Fix for Kia Sorento rear parking sensors not working

- My Kia Sorento 2012 rear parking sensors/reverse sensors were not working and I discovered my problem was related to a dislodged magnet inside the flip down door of the towing plug.
Luckily the magnet was still inside the door/cover of the housing and I was able to reinsert it into the hinged cover. When the door of the plug is open the parking sensors are deactivated as it assumes you are towing a trailer, a dislodged/missing magnet creates the same result.
If the door to the plug is missing this may also create the same issue as will a damaged wire to this switch. My plug connector is a genuine KIA branded product however this same fix may also apply to other brands/vehicles if they use a magnetic switch to disable parking sensors when towing.
If you have lost the magnet and all you see is a little recessed hole in the door then you may need to purchase a small magnet and glue it into the same spot. - Авто та транспорт
Thanks mate. Would never have thought to look there for the problem. Great vid.
Was your magnet missing?
It was dislodged. Placed it back in its slot and it was good to go.
@@samoates3095 Amazingly lucky that in some cases such as yours and mine, the magnet is still attached to one of the metal parts of the socket rather than falling out and being lost. :) Suggest supergluing it into place if you haven't already.
Thank you for the tip. Had the same problem and glued another magnet into the holder and works a treat. After all that I found the orginal magnet on my driveway! Will keep it for a back up. Thanks again.
Fantastic, glad it helped.
Where do we get this small magnet
I think you just saved me alot of time!! Legend!!
Goodo. Was the magnet still in there somewhere or completely missing? I think I was pretty lucky that my magnet had stuck itself to another metal part of the socket.
Your a bloody legend mate. I just bought a Kia Carnival and this was the problem for me 😅 so stupidly simple.
Good stuff. Glad it worked for you, did you find the magnet or need to get a replacement one?
@@Fontgod it turned out the whole door had been snapped off but I put a magnet there and it got the sensors working again. Now I just need to figure out which plug to buy, they have a reed switch and they are either open or closed and I don't know how to figure that part out. Going to rung Kia tomorrow. At least you helped find why they didn't work. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for this! My 2014 Sorento is missing the magnet. I suspect the switch in the centre console has also been disconnected by the previous owner though, as I tried using a small (possibly too weak) magnet and it didn't fix the issue. I'll see about getting a better replacement and figure out how to remove the console
Yeah I would try finding a stronger magnet first and also playing with the orientation of the magnet, I cant remember if it is meant to repel or attract in order to work correctly but I'm guessing attract.
Thank you very much. Been having this problem for a while. What a stupid idea. A little magnet that can easily fall out and disable a whole accessory.
Did you have a missing magnet? Did you manage to fix the issue with a replacement magnet?
Fontgod yes i have a missing magnet. I have bought some magnets but they dont seem to be strong enough to work
@@schnike0073 Is it possible you have the magnet orientation incorrect? Perhaps try putting the car into reverse with the handbrake on (with someone in the drivers seat for safety), then rotate the magnet in your fingers directly at the spot where the battery would normally be when the connector hatch is closed, you might find an orientation that starts the sensors beeping. Is it a Kia Sorento you have? Something like this magnet might do the trick but its from an Australian website (I'm Aussie), it's probably slightly larger than the one in my connector hatch. aussiemagnets.com.au/product/-10-x---5-x---3mm-Block-%28Ferrite%29.html
When that flap is open do you get a couple of bleeps and then flashing parking sensor? We had a fused changed and done this ever since. It would normally make no noise or flashing if flap was down
That may be simply a warning to let you know the parking sensors are not currently active. I dont get this warning with our Sorento as far as I recall. 2012 model.
Mines being wierd on my 2012 Kia Sorento. When I have it in reverse it immediately starts beeping for no reason.
Do you have a towbar attached, or a bike rack mount attachment? If so then that may be the problem. Remove it and test. Otherwise it is like a faulty sensor. Maybe try reaching under the back bumper and disconnecting each sensor in turn until you figure out which one is bad and replace it.
@@Fontgod I do have a towbar. Towbar never interfered before. I am gonna do what you said and just check the sensors because it's never done this before.
where is this box located
under rear bumper immediately to the right of towbar on my vehicle, may be on the opposite side on some vehicles? If you dont have a towbar then you may not have this connector.
