    That is a much cleaner setup than the original (through the cab) -- very nice!

    Update! I drilled the 4.5" hole yesterday and got the deck plate installed. Again, thanks for making this video. It is exactly what I wanted to do. I was so nervous drilling the hole, but it went great. I actually drilled the hole from inside rather than from the outside. I ended up buying a hole saw rather than the jigsaw. It worked perfectly. The only issue I had was when I drilled the 6 holes to mount the plate. I came in at a slight angle when drilling the hole so I couldn't get the nuts on the back side of the screws. Anyway, thanks again.

      Booo yeah! I’m happy to hear you got it done and without trouble! I haven’t been that nervous drilling in to something since the last time I installed a hood vent in my house and had to cut through the roof 😂 definitely the way to go, but I’m cheap and didn’t want buy one of those blades for just one time use. Glad this video provided at least a little bit of insight and hope you enjoy some cold weather camping!

    Thanks for this. Been looking for a video like this. I was thinking about putting the hole in the side of my bed but I just didn't want to do that. I feel much better putting the hole in the cap but I just didn't know how well it would work. My cap has frameless windows and only two little sections of the side windows fold out. Not ideal, but I got it second-hand and cheap. I' not thinking that maybe putting the hole in the window. I'll have to see how hard it would be to cut the glass. I'm sure it would be harder. Anyway, thanks for the info!! I'm also going to do a Delux fan on the roof.

      It’s all my pleasure! I spent so much time looking for a video like this myself and was surprised that I couldn’t find a single one. I too feel far more comfortable drilling into my cap than I do my truck, but didn’t have much room to work with, yet just enough. I’m sure going through glass will be pretty tricky, but if there’s a will, there’s a way. The fan would be a great addition too!

    Incredible video, OffLeash Outdoors. Looking forward to your next upload from you. I smashed that thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! Your detailed explanation of the diesel heater setup is super helpful. Have you considered any alternative heating methods that might be more fuel-efficient for extended camping trips?

    • @OffLeashOutdoors
      @OffLeashOutdoors  3 місяці тому

      Hey, we really appreciate that! I have tried several different ways to keep me in the dog warm, especially because sometimes we camping below zero temperatures. Always have a -20° bag with me. Then, try out a buddy heater, which was awful. Next, moved to a propane catalytic heater, which was a bit more efficient and better heat, but failed on me. Finally, I did what I should’ve done all along and made the investment into this diesel heater. For the type of camping and Overlanding that we do, I found this to be the most fuel, efficient and power efficient way to keep me and the dog comfortable. if it was just me, I would be fine with an appropriate bag and or blankets, but my German Shepherd doesn’t like to be restricted in those items 😂 so now we can camp at -10° and have it be 60° in the back of the truck, while only costing us pennies. We appreciate the subscription!

    Great way to start a fire by laying the hot exhaust right on the ground

    • @OffLeashOutdoors
      @OffLeashOutdoors  Місяць тому +1

      That would certainly be a great way to start a fire, if a five-year-old decided to pick one of these up and use it on their overlanding and/or camping trip. Hope you can check out our next video on how we tie our shoelaces… 😂😂

    Very nice Jim!! Don’t be surprised if they disable the startup function from your phone…they had that function on my pellet grill but recently disabled the startup function as they want you beside the grill and have to manually start it then u can adjust the grill temp with your phone…I think it’s to avoid lawsuit as people may have burned down their houses lmao😂

    • @OffLeashOutdoors
      @OffLeashOutdoors  4 місяці тому

      Appreciate that bud! I hope they don’t disable that function, I love it! it does also come with a little remote control that I can use as well if comes down to that.

    What about the exhaust pipe on the ground on the ground can it start a fire? I saw in other videos that they get pretty hot Thank you.

    • @OffLeashOutdoors
      @OffLeashOutdoors  4 місяці тому +2

      It could definitely start a fire under dry conditions and if places upon a surface that’ll catch easily. Just have to be mindful of it. Typically it’s only in use in winter when vegetation is low and chances are minimal, but I’ve cleared a small space before for extra precaution.

    • @OffLeashOutdoors

      I use a jigsaw showed later in the video. Could use a hole saw, but I was too cheap to pay $30 for the size of blade I needed 😂

  • @chrispruiz

    I thought about doing this, but was concerned with people opening the hatch. Any concern with that?

    • @OffLeashOutdoors
      @OffLeashOutdoors  4 місяці тому +1

      I tend to camp far enough off grid that I don’t worry about anybody stumbling upon us and trying to open it up. I do have a way to lock myself in, yet, I rarely use it. If somebody already gets to the point of where we are way out in the middle of nowhere and decides to try to open up the tailgate with us in it, being locked in there is not going to do me any good. I do carry a firearm and have a bad ass German Shepherd that helps guard camp, but again, after two years, we’ve never even been close to being put in a bad situation like that.
