The lyrics are very emotional in this version. It describes the 30 years war in Europe (1618-1648) from a young Swedish boys perspective, sent out to a war far from home in a small village to a country he dont even know where it is. One can say that this conflict actually was the first world war, because so many nations was involved.
    Great reaction!
The next Sabaton reaction should be "The Lion from the North" (official version), the story about the Swedish king Gustav Adolf.
Sabaton vocalist Joakim Brodén says that this song are the best he ever wrote.

What the lady said in the beginning is reflected in church records. Some families lost their fathers and uncles then the sons got called up and died too. In some cases the fathers who went to war left a pregnant wife at home, and the child also got killed in the war. This is the Swedish records. Apparently the church relaxed the enforcement of monogami for the noble women because the nobility were the officers and they died like flies. So in some parts of Sweden there were 3 women for every 2 men and for a period there accounts of "sharing" men. Keep in mind that Sweden came out on top and never had any battles on it's soil. Germany however was turned into hell on earth. It's perhaps better to look at the 30-years war as 30 years with a massive amounts of smaller wars being fought within that period. When I read and think about these people I'm glad to have heat inside and food every day :)

The song title is pronounced" en leevsteed ee kreeg". It is Swedish for a lifetime of war and it is about the 30years war that raged through Europe in the 17th century. I get goosebumps whenever I see this video. I can't wait to see them live in Stockholm. The passion of the Swedish fans for Sabaton is just amazing

It's Ukraine that deserves your condolences. We're fine, homes are insulated, heating centralized, redundancy available and we are actually exporting power to the rest of Europe.
Edit: the 30yrs war was pretty bad, there was a severe reduction in population that took place over a large amount of land (1/3rd of Germany died basically). Us Europeans have been killing each other for quite a while.

The 30 year war! When Sweden fought the Catholics in Germany 🇩🇪
The Thirty Years' War, was one of the longest and most destructive conflicts in European history, lasting from 1618 to 1648. Fought primarily in Central Europe, an estimated 4.5 to 8 million soldiers and civilians died as a result of battle, famine, and disease, while some areas of what is now modern Germany experienced population declines of over 50%.
    Casualties and losses
    Combat deaths:
    110,000 in Swedish service.
    80,000 in French service.
    30,000 in Danish service.
    50,000 other.
    Combat deaths:
    120,000 in Imperial service.
    30,000 in Bavarian service.
    30,000 other.
    Military deaths from disease: 700,000-1,350,000.
    Total civilian dead: 3,500,000-6,500,000.
    Total dead: around4,500,000-8,000,000.

The Thirty Years War (1618-48) was a religous war between the katholic and the evangelic side. It was fought in the middle of Europe, mostly Germany, leaving the land devasted with around 1/3 of the population dead. Sweden was on the evangelic side and one major player in the war. If you was drawn to army, you were lost for your family with nearly no contact possibilities until the war ended and the army was disbanded. Remember at this time: no home phone calls possible, no traveling to home for a vacation possible, because it would take months to reach home (mail too). But even this was not possible, because traveling long distances (+100km !) was very dangerous.

Thing is Sweden was at war long before the 30 year war started and were at war for a hundred more years, During this wars we lost more than 30% of our population from war alone. The thing is the camps with food and medics and repair guys and sutch had wifes and children with them and since the war was so long, the children grew up and went to war, hence father and son.

Å ja. Didn't expect this song but liked your reaction to it.
Personal opinion: It's their best and most powerful song. Probably because it's in Swedish. They make songs about war, which is a very serious topic, but sometimes it's hard for me to take them seriously because their English lyrics, honestly... hmm, how do I put it? - leave a lot to be desired.
The subtitles in the video are surprisingly correct. I'm used to seeing Swedish songs butchered when translated into English. Not the case here.
P.S. Å hej, Hannes. Hur mår frun din? Vi är fortfarande lite bekymrade. Bara lite...

If you're Swedish (Jag är svensk/norsk) that might in part be bcs of a sort of language "barrier" thing for lack of a better word or bias. It's natural for people to be able to get more feeling from our native language and to add to that many of the other European languages seem to have a particular quality of specifically sounding more Raw than English

    • @pink_alligator
      @pink_alligator Рік тому

When I used to write darker poetry I'd always do it in Swedish bcs just nothing could beat Swedish with how much more raw and gritty you can make it feel with few words but whenever I want to be more specific, explain or describe something I'll use English bcs it's much better for that in part bcs of its more extensive vocabulary
and then maybe just me personally but I switch to English when I want to express affection bcs with that feeling I feel Swedish is lacking

    • @noneofyerbeeswax8194
      @noneofyerbeeswax8194 Рік тому

@@pink_alligator I'm not Swedish, I'm just a weirdo who has wasted a lot of his precious time learning this completely useless language. :) I understand it well enough to appreciate poetry, though every time I try to write or speak, I either mess it up or make it svorsk. :) To me, most languages sound better than English does - both in singing and in general. Also, the more grammatically complex a language is, the better it is suited for writing poetry. German and Swedish are my favourites.
The reason people write lyrics in English, even when it's not their native language, is because they want more people to understand them - which basically means that they want to be more mainstream. "Mainstream" and "metal" don't sound good when put into the same sentence. Quality may suffer because of this. I wish more people would just write good lyrics in their native tongues rather than mediocre lyrics in English.

    Protestants versus Catholics.
Germany versus Roman Empire, and soon a lot of European countries joined in, including Sweden on the Protestant side. But that wasn't the end of wars for Sweden, since they had already been in so many wars prior and just continued to wage war until Carolus Rex died basically. So almost another 100 years of war.

I wish I could have stayed there, just another day
Not yet a man, though called to arms to do my part
Will I see my home again, I wish with all my heart
With kinsmen from my village I went out to war
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who won't be home again
    But who mourns over me?
Went out to war for Sweden, baptized in blood
No gallantry awaits us, dying in the mud
In fields where friends has fallen, there’ll be no songs
Our fate once more we challenge, and marching on
    Far away from home
(To be baptized and die in war)
    In a world of flames
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who won't be home again
    But who mourns over me?
And when my time is finally here
    Who’ll sing my song?
    They’re fighting on
I hope to die without much fear
I fall asleep, and fade away
    And never wake up
‘Cause war surely can, devastate a man
I give my life, for my motherland
    But who’s missing me?
    So see me as them
    the husband and friend
the father and son, who won't be home again
    But who mourns over me?

"I wish I could have stayed there, just another day" Okay, you just changed out the lyrics completley here, no correlations to what they are singing in Swedish.
"Will I see my home again, I wish with all my heart" So, you were correct until the comma, then you just changed out the lyrics completley once again (Still no correlation).
" 'Cause " You actually had to shorten the correct spelling, The correct spelling is; Because.
Actually, the translation on the video is just a lot better, Sorry for shattering your version.

First time I’ve disliked your reaction. It just seemed like you weren’t ready to focus. Later in your reaction you got into your thoughts. Bumpy start to this one
